ALCHEMY
Real Name: Thomas Jones
First Appearance: X-Factor (Vol. 1) #41, June 1989
Powers: Alchemy was born with the mutant power of transmutation, able to convert one element to another upon physical contact. His power requires a working knowledge of the chemical composition of any substance he wished to manifest, but his studies in chemistry and physiology helped him considerably in this regard.
Initially, his power applied single, uniform transformations to a subject, such as turning the various elements found in matter into all one element, like platinum, solid gold, or iron. His power could also affect organic matter in the same manner. These changes were permanent, and could only be reversed once Tom gained a sufficient knowledge of chemistry and biochemistry to concentrate on recreating all the various elemental compounds in matter and the human body. His studies also allowed him to use his power to create compound transmutations, not just elementals. He once transformed Wolverine’s Adamantium claws into a rubbery substance and a steel door into plastique.

Alchemy was created by a British comic book reader named Paul Betsow as part of Marvel's Mutant Registration contest for the best fan-created mutant. Although it was initially said that the winning entry would appear in an issue of The New Mutants, Alchemy debuted in X-Factor instead.
He died of M-Pox after exposure to the Terrigen Cloud in Death of X #4. But likely may reappear on Krakoa.
