Her mutant power gave her access to her own personal Neverland. But then she grew up, got married and had a child.

A car accident flung her out of the way of death’s door, but her husband and son were still inside the car as it flew off the cliff. She used her power instinctively for the first time in years to open a portal to send them to her dimension.

She went catatonic after that trauma, so Charles Xavier was called in. He helped her, but she couldn’t access her powers anymore. She went uncertain for decades about her family’s survival. Until she met Scott & Jean on their honeymoon. Her powers re-emerged and raged out of control when she felt the psychic backlash of the Summers couple’s minds being pulled into the Askani future some 2,000 years from now.

When they returned, they kinda helped her, but not really. Her family really did die in that car accident. But Jean used her telepathy to make Grace visualize her husband and son as alive and aged, and then bring that visual to life in her dimension and live happily ever after.
