Powers: Mondo has the mutant ability to absorb the mass and properties of matter on contact. If he touched a rock, for instance, Mondo would absorb it into his body while simultaneously duplicating the rock's physical qualities, increasing his strength and the overall durability of his physiology. His system "digests" objects assimilated into his body, divesting him of the additional mass he has appropriated. To return to normal, Mondo can expel the object before it is fully digested, or wait until it is fully metabolized through his system, at which point he reverts back automatically.

Mondo's physical size and the amount of time in which he can sustain a transformation depend on the amount of mass he assimilates. A rock the size of his fist would metabolize through his system in a matter of minutes and do little to change his size and stature; a large boulder whose mass equaled Mondo's own, however, might take hours for his body to fully break down and divest and cause his size and stature to double initially.

Mondo would then slowly decrease in size as his body began processing the additional mass he'd assimilated, until he returns to normal size just before reverting back to his human form as well. Instead of completely assimilating an object, Mondo can partially fuse his mass with that of other matter in order to "flow" as a part of it. If, for instance, Mondo merged with the uniform concrete surface of a road, he could sink his own concrete-mass into the concrete and reform himself some distance away on the same strip of road. He can propel himself through such uniform surfaces as roads, sand on a beach, soil, etc. by merging with and expelling himself from the matter in a straight line.

*Mondo was replaced behind the scenes in Generation X Annual '95 by a synthetic plant-like double made by Black Tom Cassidy. The Mondo who appeared in Generation X (Vol. 1) #10-25 was not the real Mondo, who has since been resurrected on Krakoa*
