Real Name: David Patrick Lowell

First Appearance: Untold Tales of Spider-Man ‘97 Annual (Vol. 1) #1, July 1997

Powers: Dr. David Lowell was a botanist who developed a formula which used solar absorption to supercharge plant growth. Accidentally ingesting a flask with half the formula, he then fell onto a bank of solar lamps which immediately supercharged him.

As Sundown, his body is supercharged by the absorption of heat and light from the sun and various other ambient sources. His body generates a dark aura, indicating the light from his immediate area is being absorbed. When he first received his powers, Sundown's energy siphoning ability was causing all of Manhattan to grow darker and cooler, indicating he had phenomenal range and storage ability for his absorption powers. Later, Sundown demonstrated the ability to localize his heat/light absorption, creating blackouts in small volumes of space. The energy he absorbed could be converted for superhuman strength, endurance, and durability, flight, solar blasts, a protective aura, and proportionate size-changing, allowing him to grow to massive size.

Dr. David Lowell is an expert botanist with a Ph.D. in plant physiology.
