Real Name: Christian Cord

First Appearance: New X-Men (Vol. 1) #126, July 2002

Powers: Christian Cord had the mutant ability to gather ambient photons and absorb them into his body. He could then amplify and redirect them, generating unidirectional flashes of intense ultraviolet light from his body. He could consciously control the intensity of the flares, using them to temporarily dazzle, blind, or burn his opponents.

Later, after being depowered, he became the high-tech hero known as Phaser, adopting a multi-phasic photon accelerator into projectors on his chest plate and hand grips. Phaser can sling bolts of laser energy at opponents and generate a blinding flash from his chest, similar to his old mutant power. Like all members of the new New Warriors, Christian had a utility belt with cartridges containing Pym Particles for reducing opponents down to size or impact webbing for quickly wrapping up and restraining felons. His suit also generated an anti-gravity platform for flight and propulsion, and contained a "Ghost Mode" that rendered him intangible and utterly unaffected by physical assaults. Night Thrasher was able to remotely trigger the ghost circuitry, but it is unknown if he has granted independent control of the ability to his teammates prior to the New Warriors' disbandment.
