ANGEL SALVADORE
Real Name: Angel Salvadore
First Appearance: New X-Men (Vol. 1) #118, November 2001
Powers: Angel Salvadore is a mutant with abilities and a physiology that are similar to the common housefly.
These abilities include an altered physiology that changed her body to be perfectly suited for flight, toughening her skin, making her cardiovascular and respiratory systems more efficient, and making her eyes more resistant to debris while flying. In addition, Angel's digestive system was altered, forcing her to utilize a special acidic substance produced by her own body to partially digest her food before ingestion, though she still possesses teeth with which to chew. This substance can be used as a projectile weapon that can burn through most materials, such as wood, stone, and flesh.
Angel's reproductive system changed as well, forcing her to lay pods or eggs like an insect rather than giving live birth like a mammal. She lays eggs with a complete gestation period of only five days from conception to birth. Angel's body can presumably produce some type of silk, as she wrapped both herself and her growing children in such a substance. She also may have the ability to walk on walls and ceilings like a fly can. Angel, after being wrapped in her first cocoon that jump started her mutation, grew a pair of veined, cellophane-like wings from her back. These wings allow her to fly at an unknown top speed, and make her incredibly maneuverable in the air, even more so than fellow X-Men Archangel and Icarus. She can perform acrobatic flips, fly backwards, and even fly upside down. The wings have the added effect of being able to vibrate at high speeds, which produced deafening sonic effects which could shatter glass and possibly even foes with superhuman durability.
Finally, Angel is capable of wrapping herself in cocoons for healing purposes. The first cocoon she created began the rest of her mutation, while another that she created managed to heal her wings after they were extensively damaged, as well as other injuries on her body that she sustained.
After losing her powers on M-Day, she joined the New Warriors. As Tempest, Angel used elemental technology built into her wrist gauntlets. She can agitate molecules in order to produce combustion, sending streams of flame at her targets like a blowtorch. She can also reduce temperatures, causing objects to freeze over and making ice form into different shapes out of the moisture in the atmosphere. Finally, Tempest has wind-generating units which can send out hurricane force gales, blasting opponents off their feet. She can also create sustained wind funnels, throwing people and objects around or creating a propulsive cyclone that can carry her up into the air.
Like all members of the new New Warriors, Tempest has utility belts with cartridges containing Pym Particles for reducing opponents down to size or impact webbing for quickly wrapping up and restraining felons. The suit also contains a "Ghost Mode" that renders her intangible and utterly unaffected by physical assaults. Night Thrasher was able to remotely trigger the ghost circuitry, but it is unknown if he gave independent control of the ability to his teammates. Though she still utilizes her New Warriors code name and costumed identity, she has since regained her mutant powers.
