NATURE GIRL

NATURE GIRL

Real Name: Lin Li
First Appearance: Wolverine & The X-Men (Vol. 2) #1, May 2014

Powers: Nature Girl's mutant power is empathic biota manipulation, allowing her to psionically control and communicate with all forms of flora and fauna in her vicinity. She anthropomorphizes the sensations she receives from these organisms, and believes they're actually talking to her. Like Mirage, she may be establishing a quasi-telepathic rapport with these organisms. She can talk to creatures and derive information from them, or ask them to do things on her behalf. Similarly, she can communicate with trees and other forms of plant-life, causing them to act at her direction and even manipulate them on a molecular level.

Her power may also extend to being able to sense a planet's weather patterns, enabling her to exhibit weather control powers similar to Storm's.

SHARK GIRL

SHARK GIRL

Real Name: Iara dos Santos
First Appearance: Wolverine & The X-Men (Vol. 1) #20, January 2013

Powers: Shark Girl is a mutant transmorph able to assume shark-like traits. In her transmorph state, she gained mass and altered her physiology to function as a bipedal humanoid shark. Iara has superhuman strength, swimming speed, endurance, reflexes, and her body is more resistant to general physical harm, temperature lows, and intense ocean pressure. She can breathe underwater, has an enhanced sense of smell and sensitivity to bio-magnetic fields, as well as sharpened teeth and claws. Her vision and hearing are also more acute than normal, and attuned towards underwater perception.

MORPH II

MORPH II

Real Name: Benjamin Deeds
First Appearance: All-New X-Men (Vol. 1) #3, February 2013

Powers: Benjamin Deeds' mutant ability consists of a complicated form of psychochemical passive camouflage. To clarify, active camouflage is when one can't be seen, but passive camouflage is when one seems like he/she belongs. Examples: Active camouflage would be anything from literally turning invisible to hiding under a tarp. Passive camouflage is when someone infiltrates a hospital by grabbing a lab coat and a clipboard as they walk around. Everyone can see them, but no one thinks anything of it because it doesn't seem out-of-place.

Morph II affects the brain, his own body, and his environment while his power is active. The most obvious aspect of his power is when his body changes to match the features of another person. On close inspection, however, Deeds doesn't mimic the person identically, like Mystique would. Instead, he adopts their more prominent physical features and characteristics (hair color, background, level of attractiveness). This creates a psychological level of comfort in his target, because they subconsciously find his presence familiar. If he moves through his environment without interacting with his target, they may never even acknowledge his presence. Not because he's invisible, but because they are automatically accepting of the fact that he's there.

In one-on-one interaction, Deeds can be very likeable and charming. He produces a psionic influence as well as psychochemical pheromones that bring his target closer to him. Although these aren't aggressive seductive pheromones, they do increase the comfort level of his target so they're more accepting of any lies he tells or requests he makes. In some way, his chemicals affect technology as well as people. He was able to enter into a S.H.I.E.L.D. field office, walk right up to Dum Dum Dugan, and hand him a note from Cyclops. Not only was he not stopped or questioned as he moved into high security areas, but the security cameras and surveillance system didn't register his presence either. Benjamin has recently begun pushing the limits of his powers to achieve true shape-changing, like posing as Andreas von Strucker, but his limits have not been completely established.

EYE-BOY

EYE-BOY

Real Name: Trevor Hawkins
First Appearance: Wolverine & The X-Men (Vol. 1) #19, December 2012

Powers: Eye-Boy is a mutant who possesses about a hundred eyes scattered over every surface of his body. He has a superhuman visual cortex able to effectively process information from these various perspectives simultaneously, giving him a 360° degree field of vision at all times. Trevor has developed an intuitive ability to read body language and visual cues, similar to Cypher's expanded abilities after his resurrection. He can identify people's emotional state, subtle responses to their environment, and perform detective-level data extrapolation based on his observations. A visit from his future self showed Trevor that his abilities can also give him perfect vision and accuracy with firearms and ranged weapons.

Eye-Boy can also perceive certain forms of energy or information that are invisible to the naked eye. He can see magic, electromagnetic transmissions, pierce illusions, and find his friends because of the emotional energy that forms a connection between them. He can "x-ray" people, seeing their skeletons, circulatory system, or pinpoint other hidden or internal aspects of their bodies.

RAIN BOY

RAIN BOY

Real Name: Carl Aalston
First Appearance: X-Men (Vol. 2) #171, August 2005

Powers: Rain Boy's mutant power caused him to exist as a sentient mass of water. He existed inside a skin suit (presumably with a force field), maintaining a body with human proportions for him to interact with his surroundings. He presumably perceived his environment psionically. Rain Boy could expel pressurized streams of water out from his body. How he regenerated this lost mass is unknown, but he may have been capable of absorbing water from other sources through his suit.

FLUBBER

FLUBBER

Real Name: Nicholas Shelley
First Appearance: X-Men (Vol. 2) #171, August 2005

Powers: Flubber's mutant power manifestation left his body with a bizarre physiology. He possessed an oversized, muscular blue form with red tattoo-like markings along with heightened agility, strength, and abnormally large hands resembling whale fins.

His body was composed of a rubbery substance able to absorb impact harmlessly and redistribute it back in the direction of the initial impact, rebounding from it to spring great heights and distances. The unique physiology behind his neck and wrists removed vulnerable points that might snap or break when exposed to great force.

ONYXX

ONYXX

Real Name: Sidney Green
First Appearance: X-Men (Vol. 2) #171, August 2005

Powers: Onyxx's mutant abilities manifested during his teenage years, resulting in a permanent uneven granite physiology. He had extra dense bones, muscle, lungs, organs, etc. that function the same as normal humans. However, he still needed food, water, oxygen, and sleep (albeit to a different degree), had natural healing and recuperative abilities, and so on.

He possessed superhuman strength (Class 5), endurance, and his hide was comprised of uneven granite that granted his body resistance to most forms of physical impact, except for his head area which he covered with a metal helmet whose specifications remain unknown. He also possessed four eyes which permanently glowed with a red hue and an inhuman skeleton.

NETWORK & PREVIEW

NETWORK & PREVIEW

Real Name: Sarah Vale (Network); Jessica Vale (Preview)
First Appearance: New X-Men (Vol. 2) #12, June 2005 (both)

Powers: Network (left) and Preview (right) were sisters born with mutant powers which manifested in their adolescence.

Network’s mutant ability was the power of technopathy. She could communicate with computers and other machines mentally. By mentally linking with a computer, she could read through all the files and programs it possessed with a thought, absorbing that information into her own memory. If that computer had a modem or wireless connection capabilities, she could then scan through the databanks of all computer systems connected to the one she was linked with, potentially giving her access to the entire internet's worth of knowledge from a single terminal. If her power extended to broadcast technopathy as well as receptive talents, she could also reprogram a computer or machine with her thoughts, causing them to start up or shut down at her leisure, perform single tasks under her direct command or reprogram the basic functioning protocols of the system, making it operate in a particularly different manner long after she breaks her connection.

Preview's mutant power was a form of short-term precognition. She apparently foresaw her squad losing a competition beforehand. It was unknown if she actually lived through the events as she experienced them, or experienced a vision third-person somehow, nor is it known if she could see things that don't involve her or if she only looked forward in her own timeline.

TRANCE

TRANCE

Real Name: Hope Abbott
First Appearance: New X-Men (Vol. 2) #12, June 2005

Powers: Trance has the mutant ability to project her consciousness as an electromagnetic energy form. She leaves her body in a comatose "trance" while her mind travels freely in an intangible energy state. This projected state can levitate and fly, pass harmlessly through solid matter, and travel at extraordinarily high speeds. She also possesses a "bio-sting", a disruptive energy that can be produced on contact or as a pulsed ray from her insubstantial hands, causing bio-electrically based pain and damage to people and objects.

Trance's powers later evolved in other areas. She can perceive certain unique spectra or energy fields, reading emotional auras, heat signatures, and the presence of inter-dimensional doorways or phenomena. These perceptions are accessible even in her physical form. Trance's body and powers are also somewhat reactive to spatial fields. If she is being teleported, her power may disrupt the transport in mid-jaunt, causing her to reappear somewhere other than intended. She can also access residual dimensional displacements, sending her wraith-form through to another dimension by passing through the spot where a displacement recently occurred.

KIDOGO

KIDOGO

Real Name: Lazaro Kotikash
First Appearance: New X-Men (Vol. 2) #12, June 2005

Powers: Kidogo is a mutant born with the power of micromorphing. He extra-dimensionally displaces his own mass proportionately in order to shrink himself and can return to his normal proportions at will. Normally standing over 6 feet tall, he can reduce himself to at least 4 inches in height.

INDRA

INDRA

Real Name: Paras Gavaskar
First Appearance: New X-Men (Vol. 2) #7, January 2005

Powers: Indra’s mutation grants him purple skin quasi-faceted like crystal. He has the components of a biological exoskeleton stored underneath his skin, and can summon it to the surface at will. Expanding in layers over his body, the exoskeleton forms a massive shell-like series of plates over every inch of his body except his face, protecting him from a significant degree of physical harm and increasing his strength to some degree as well. Recently, Indra has begun to expand the scope of his abilities. He can now manifest various kinds of living armor and weapons that he imagines in his mind's-eye. He can materialize a single dagger in the palm of his hand, or construct an elaborate and ornate set of battle armor, along with a variety of swords and bladed weapons springing into existence and hovering around his person.

QUILL IV

QUILL IV

Real Name: Maxwell Jordan
First Appearance: New X-Men (Vol. 2) #1, November 2004

Powers: Quill's mutation consists of porcupine-like spikes extending in place of regular hairs over his entire body. He may have had some control over the density of spikes.

Sometimes his quills appeared like needles and other times they were thicker and more massive. Upon mental command, he could launch the quills off his body as fast-flying razor-tipped projectiles, and he regenerated them at a high rate of speed to give himself a virtually unlimited supply of ammunition.

DRYAD

DRYAD

Real Name: Callie Betto
First Appearance: New X-Men (Vol. 2) #1, July 2004

Powers: Dryad’s mutant power is chlorokinesis, giving her manipulation and control over vegetation and plants. Dryad could presumably communicate with vegetative lifeforms, eliciting information about the world around the plants from them psionically. She could also animate plant-life, making branches swat her opponents, vines wrap around them, thorn bushes to puncture their flesh as they pass by, etc. It is possible that she could also initiate massive acceleration in plant growth, creating massive beanstalks, buds, or vines mutated strong enough to damage reinforced structures or buildings with their weight and strength, or carry her high into the air.

SURGE

SURGE

Real Name: Noriko Ashida
First Appearance: The New Mutants (Vol. 2) #8, February 2004

Powers: Surge possesses the mutant power to absorb and process electricity from her environment. She siphons ambient static electricity in the atmosphere and can also drain nearby electrical outlets or mechanical devices of power. This siphoning ability is uncontrollable, and can be a danger to herself and others when she builds a greater level of electrical energy than she can control. Therefore, she wears a set of stabilizer gauntlets which prevent her from draining energy unless she chooses to.

Surge can redirect her electrical storage as lightning-like bolts from her hands, or radiate arcs and flashes of electricity in all directions. She can also metabolize the electrical power in her system to boost her physical speed, increasing her speed and reaction time, allowing her to run at upwards of 500-600 miles per hour.

SPECTER

SPECTER

Real Name: Dallas Gibson
First Appearance: The New Mutants (Vol. 2) #10, May 2004

Powers: Specter had the mutant ability to create a "shadow form" with augmented strength and speed.

*Allegedly, his power operated by tapping into a quasi-tangible shadow matter, possibly Darkforce, to create a twin version of himself. He manifested this dark duplicate through his own shadow, making it appear as if that shadow has come to life. Once active, his shadow form acted as an extension of his consciousness and will, following his commands but also acting out his thoughts and wishes on its own at times, making controlling it sometimes difficult. The shadow form may have been capable of various feats such as stretching its limbs, passing intangibly through objects, and so on. It was stated that Specter possessed enhanced strength and speed, but such a completely separate type of power seems unlikely. Therefore, it could be assumed that he could "merge" with his shadow form, willing the shadow to flow over him similar to second skin, doubling his physical strength, speed, and so on as they work in conjunction.

TAG

TAG

Real Name: Brian Cruz
First Appearance: The New Mutants (Vol. 2) #10, May 2004

Powers: Tag was born with the mutant power to attach (or ‘tag’) people and objects with specific signals that broadcast on psionic wavelengths. He created two different signals which worked in tandem with each other to produce a desired effect. One signal marked someone or something as “it”, making them the “sender” who broadcasted a certain message into the environment which was undetectable by anyone unless Tag chose to make them “receivers”, and thus susceptible to the sender’s message. Tag could make himself “it” or any person or object he came into contact with, and “receivers” could be tagged from a distance, just by willing it to be so.

Tag’s primary broadcast was to compel receivers to get away from the sender: Their conscious minds were submerged beneath the overriding drive to put distance between them and who- or whatever is “it”. The effect lasted until the receivers got far enough away from the sender that the compulsion faded, or until the sender was too far away from Tag for him to sustain the effect. Tag also learned how to create a new signal, which compels receivers to get closer and closer to the sender.

MATCH

MATCH

Real Name: Benjamin Hamill
First Appearance: The New Mutants (Vol. 2) #7, January 2004

Powers: Match's mutant power is that his body constantly produces large amounts of heat energy. His body is always aglow with orange light and releasing pyroplasmic flame energy from his skull so that he resembles a matchstick. He can increase the heat his body generates at will and expel it, discharging pyrotechnic fire balls and streams of flame from his hands. He also seems to have some external pyrokinetic powers, allowing him to manipulate other sources of flame, or absorb them harmlessly into his body.

PIXIE

PIXIE

Real Name: Megan Gwynn
First Appearance: New X-Men (Vol. 2) #5, November 2004

Powers: Pixie was born with a fairy-like mutation that has manifested as a large set of four translucent multicolored pixie wings on her back which enable her to lift off the ground and fly. She can also produce what she calls "pixie dust", which is said to cause a hallucinogenic effect. It is assumed that she expels it from her wings as she flies, leaving the dust in her wake so that it is absorbed through the skin or inhaled by people she passes by, causing them to experience mind-altering visions and perceived distortions of reality around them.

In addition, a portion of her soul has been replaced by black magic thanks to the Darkchilde's manipulations, allowing her to manifest a "soul dagger" on command and giving her the potential for casting various spells. In particular, she has mastered the spell for teleportation, allowing her to transport herself and other people across considerable distances in a single jump. She has recently learned to transport others independently with a gesture, instead of simply taking them along as passengers when she teleported herself.

LOA

LOA

Real Name: Alani Ryan
First Appearance: New X-Men: Academy X (Vol. 1) #5, November 2004

Powers: Loa has the mutant power to disrupt the molecular structure of objects that pass through her body, causing them to disintegrate. Loa's power operates similar to Shadowcat's power in basic principle, only the transition in-and-out of the object isn't as efficient. While Shadowcat’s molecules slide effortlessly over and around those of other objects while phased, Loa's power signature would be more akin to shoving through an object instead of sliding. Loa experiences greater resistance moving through objects than Shadowcat, and so while she walks through objects as if they were air, Loa must swim through them: Physically propelling herself along inside the mass she's passing through with kicks or strokes. Upon exiting the object, the distortion of her molecules on the object's structure cause it to lose integrity and break down, crumbling to pieces within moments after she passes. If she walks through a wall, a hole is left in it after she exits. Projectiles and other attacks are disintegrated after passing through her, and punching her directly is harmful. Wearing an Atlantean pendant has conditioned her to breathe underwater and survive at ocean depths.

Alani Ryan is an avid surfer and fluent in Hawaiian language and customs.

ROCKSLIDE

ROCKSLIDE

Real Name: Santo Vacarro
First Appearance: The New Mutants (Vol. 2) #3, September 2003

Powers: Rockslide’s mutation is that his body is composed of animated rock, possessing superhuman strength (class 75), endurance, and resistance to all forms of physical impact. He can also disengage portions of his mass such as to remove his hands to pin an opponent to the ground or fire off his hands as high-speed projectile missiles. Rockslide could not control his body parts after they separated from him, though, and so would have to physically go to retrieve his fists after launching them and manually reattach them. He could survive being broken into smaller portions by an outside force, but only if his body was brought back into one piece within a short period of time afterwards. After Nimrod virtually atomized him, however, Rockslide's power evolved to bring him beyond his original physical body.

Santo now practically exists as a psychic phantom, capable of assembling any nearby stone into a "golem" rock body for himself to possess. Therefore, he can now reform himself after being destroyed or deconstructed using any nearby rock and earth, and not just the matter of his original body. He can no longer fire off his limbs as he did in the past, but instead can explosively shatter his entire body at will and then reform moments later.
