VIBRO

VIBRO

Real Name: Alton Francis Vibereaux
First Appearance: The Invincible Iron Man (Vol. 1) #186, September 1984

Powers: Dr. Alton Vibereaux was a seismological engineer who developed a nuclear-powered machine to absorb seismic energies, theoretically preventing earthquakes. Rashly rushed to measure a fault line directly over California’s San Andreas Fault as tremors were underway, Dr. Vibereaux (clad in full body armor) lowered himself and his machine underground. When a tremor did hit, the fault line widened and Dr. Vibereaux’s machine transferred vibrational energy directly into him, causing him to fall into the fault line. Dr. Vibreaux resurfaced and wandered around days later, now a disfigured and deranged superhuman calling himself “Vibro”.

Vibro possesses the ability to generate high-level vibrations within his body and direct them through his hands or person, inducing earthquakes with ranges of several miles, create vibratory force shields to redirect bullets and other attacks, open chasms, propel himself into the air and across distances at subsonic speeds, disable machinery, and perform other feats. He could absorb seismic energy, including his own, and magnify it within himself for later release. He is immune to both his own and external seismic energy and could survive beneath the Earth’s crust regardless of heat and other environmental factors. For at least a few days after his initial empowerment, he could survive without food or sleep.

Via careful application of vibrations, he could tunnel through the Earth at great speeds and, when underground, manipulate it to shield himself. Overuse of his powers could adversely affect tectonic plates in his vicinity, at risk of undirected earthquakes. His armor properties are undefined, and his powers originally depended on his proximity to California’s San Andreas Fault.

Dr. Alton Francis Vibereaux is a gifted intellect with expertise in laser technology and holds a Ph.D. in geological engineering. He was also a talented engineer with extensive seismographical knowledge.
