Powers: The Collective Man is actually a gestalt being composed of five identical quintuplet mutant siblings.

They are able to sense each other's thoughts and teleport into the presence of one another, each capable of instantaneously relocating to the side of one of their brothers. The brothers can alter the synchronization of their bodily atoms in order to physically merge with one another, becoming a single Collective Man with two to five times the intellect, strength, speed, endurance, reaction time, durability, and regenerative powers of a single brother, depending on how many joined in the gestalt. When all five brothers are unified in one body, they could temporarily tap into the collective strength of the entire Chinese population, amplifying their strength to almost incalculable levels for a few moments of time.

At one point, the Collective Man was mutated into a giant creature, stabbed, exploded into pieces, pieces which were then stored in hundreds of separate jars on a starship, a starship which was later sucked into an event horizon and atomized. It is wildly assumed that one or more of the brothers survived, and that the shock of their other brother(s) dying somehow gave them the ability to transform other people into duplicates of the Collective Man, and absorb their bodies and mass to grow to enormous size..
