Powers: Using untapped radiations in the Savage Land, the mutant named Magneto built a machine and induced artificial mutations in several of the local indigenous people there into super-powered beings known as the Savage Land Mutates (Amphibius, Barbarus, Brainchild, Equilibrius, Gaza, Lupo, and Piper).

Amphibius is a frog-like mutate, who possesses superhuman agility and leg strength that allows him to leap great distances. He can breathe and swim underwater, and can command sea life, including crocodiles and sharks and their ancestors. He has a long prehensile tongue. Amphibius' entire body is frog-like, causing him to frequently crouch like a frog. His eyes glow yellow, indicating enhanced nocturnal vision. Amphibius is susceptible to heat. He has been known to transform back into his human state when weakened or taken far from the genetic transformer that effected his mutation. Amphibius often wears a mechanical carapace of unknown capabilities, and he has worn a clawed glove.
