LIFEGUARD

LIFEGUARD

Real Name: Heather Cameron
First Appearance: X-Treme X-Men (Vol. 1) #6, December 2001

Powers: Lifeguard was born with the mutant power of situational hyper-adaptability. This enables her to manifest a variety of superhuman traits to facilitate the protection of herself or other living beings from different threatening and adverse situations.

The range of variability her power is capable of was never measured, and she did not consciously choose how or when her power activated. Generally, her default response for all forms of threats was to alter her flesh into a superhumanly strong golden metal, increasing her strength and durability dramatically. If necessary, she could grow wings (either under her arms or from her backside) in order to fly or additional arms to carry multiple people to safety. She has developed superhuman strength, grown gills and a fish-like tail, and has even assumed the form of a whale. She was never seen morphing her body in these or any other way without first assuming her default golden state. Lifeguard also could apparently manifest psychic powers, such as the ability to control water mentally and some form of telepathy. Once the threat passed, her body would revert to normal.

Her power inadvertently caused the emergence of her inherent Shi'ar genome, and she appears to be locked into her final transformation of gold skin, wings, razor sharp talons, and predatory instincts, still unable to control her powers and possibly unable to transform any further or reverse the change. Her appearance also includes cranial markings and feathers that represent Shi'ar royalty.

Heather Cameron is also a qualified trained lifeguard and an excellent swimmer.

CERISE

CERISE

Real Name: Cerise
First Appearance: Excalibur (Vol. 1) #46, January 1992

Powers: Cerise is a Shi'ar warrior whose characteristics give her enhanced strength, speed, agility, endurance, reflexes, and durability. The average Shi'ar supposedly possesses Class 1 strength and 20 times better endurance than a human, but it's unknown how much variability the race has in these traits. Cerise also possesses the ability to fly and generate malleable fields of coherent light in the form of radiant red energy. She can shape her energy projections to form intangible flashes of bright light, solid battering rams, hollow force fields, floating platforms, among other things. Her personal battle suit is stored in a pocket dimension which she can access from her gloves, summoning it to appear over whatever she is wearing at the time. The suit allows her to survive in the vacuum of space and travel through hyperspace dimensions. It also contains a variety of sensor mechanisms, including energy detection, proximity sensors, inter-dimensional navigation, etc.

X-TREME

X-TREME

Real Name: Adam Neramani
First Appearance: X-Force Annual (Vol. 1) #2, October 1993

Powers: X-Treme is a mutant hybrid of human and Shi’ar genes. He possesses enhanced strength, being able to press somewhere in a range above the average Shi’ar, bordering on superhuman. His physical endurance is about more than 20 times that of a human. His speed, reflexes, agility, athletic skills, and dexterity are far superior to both human and Shi’ar. He has pointed ears and his eyesight is superhuman, allowing him to visually perceive objects at least 1 mile away with precise clarity.

His mutant power is to generate a biochemical energy blast that ignites the electrolytes present in a person’s blood, causing the person to burn from the inside out. The intensity of the burn is variable, being anywhere from just a warming sensation to incinerating a person within a matter of seconds. X-Treme can affect multiple targets with this power and the average intensity of it is enough to stun. This does take a tremendous effort for X-Treme and will usually leave him in a weakened state, so he doesn't utilize it very often. Also, in order for X-Treme to ignite the electrolytes he must first oxygenate the blood. This is usually done by cutting the target and exposing their blood to the air. Any person with an open cut becomes a target for him. X-Treme uses a trigger word of "Burn" to activate his power and his eyes will glow with a reddish light.

He often uses a variety of Thet’je blades as well as two retractable blades on each arm, just located above the wrist. He is also a skilled fighter and swordsman.

BROOD

THE BROOD

First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #155, March 1982

Traits: The Brood are an utterly savage, insectoid alien race with six legs, transparent wings, sharp teeth, armor-like skin, and a long tail that is divided at the end into two large stingers. The tentacle-like forelegs can manipulate objects and operate various devices. Driven primarily by hunger and procreation, the Brood are parasites whose Queens implant their eggs in other living beings. The embryos metamorphosize their hosts' bodies until they hatch, fully consuming the hosts and converting them into members of the Brood who retain each hosts' knowledge and abilities. As such, the Brood often seek out superior life forms to use as hosts. The Brood operate with a collective intelligence under an absolutely matriarchal hive structure, ruled by a single Empress ("The Queen of All Mothers") who is guarded by an elite group of Brood known as Firstborn. From among her legion of Queens, the Empress selects one, known as the Imperiatrix (or "Great Mother") to act as her off-world representative when dealing with other races.

Brood Queens are typically stronger and larger than average drones, and can expel a paralyzing liquid from their mouths. The Brood Empress is the most powerful of her race, a massive creature that, it is believed, is unable to move from her lair on the Brood's central nest world. The Empress is able to reproduce asexually by laying eggs. The Empress' Firstborn are larger than Queens, and are covered in bony, super-durable armored plates. They also have razor-sharp clawed feet and a tail with a single stinger. Firstborn are able to teleport, apparently via technological mean, and are accomplished warriors.

Highly advanced in the fields of bioengineering and weaponry, the Brood use a mind-virus to enslave the space-faring Acanti race both as a mobile food source and to utilize as living starships due to the Acanti's natural ability to fly faster than light. The Brood employ sentient alien Star Sharks as attack fighters and for planetary assault, as well as craft pillaged from other races.

D'KEN

D’KEN

Real Name: D’Ken Neramani
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #103, February 1977

Powers: D’Ken was a member of the extraterrestrial race known as the Shi'ar. The Shi'ar have both avian and mammalian characteristics: Although the Shi'ar are outwardly humanoid and mammalian in form, they have feathers instead of hair. At an earlier point in their evolution, the Shi'ar had fully-developed wings attached to their arms, enabling them to fly.

D’Ken possessed the conventional attributes of a Shi'ar, which gave him enhanced strength, speed, agility, endurance, reflexes, and durability. The average Shi'ar possesses Class 1 strength and 20 times better endurance than a human.

SHI'AR IMPERIAL GUARD

SHI’AR IMPERIAL GUARD

Roster: (clockwise) Gladiator II (Kallark), Titan, Midget, Quasar (Neutron), Warstar (B’nee and C’cil), Hussar, Earthquake, Magic, Astra I, Electron I, Smasher IV, Oracle I (Lady Sybil), Fang II, Hobgoblin I, Mentor, Impulse, Tempest I, Manta, Nightside, and Starbolt.

First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #107, October 1977; The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #137, September 1980 (Manta, Warstar, Hussar, and Earthquake only)

History and Powers: The Imperial Guard is a legion of super-powered champions from throughout the Shi’ar Galaxy who act as enforcers of Shi’ar imperial law. An elite corps of the Guard protects the Majestor or Majestrix and carries out his or her personal directives.

Gladiator is one of the last surviving Strontians, a race of powerful purple-skinned humanoids from the Shi’ar Galaxy. His people possess psionically-reinforced powers of considerable magnitude, and Kallark has undergone the further enhancement of the Gladiator Process. He has Class 100 strength, has a tireless supply of endurance and is virtually invulnerable to just about anything. Kallark can live at hyper-velocity, allowing him to perceive his environment as if it were moving at a snail's pace, boosting his relative reaction time significantly, and run or fly at speeds faster than the eye can follow. Able to survive in the vacuum of space, he can exceed the speed of light under his own power to warp through space and travel between galaxies. His hearing and vision are also beyond superhumanly acute, giving him telescopic, microscopic, infrared, and ultraviolet sight and the ability to hear extremely soft noises or sounds outside the human range of detection. Gladiator can also fire thermoscopic beams of energy from his eyes, and product high-velocity gusts of wind from his lungs to affect objects/people or extinguish flames. He is currently centuries old, and may be functionally immortal. He is able to support weights with his strength that should normally crumble under their own mass when lifted, implying some kind of psionic force maintaining the object's structure, in addition to his natural strength. Gladiator's faith-based powers falter when his self-assurance does, making him temporarily vulnerable to more conventional forms of injury.

Titan is able to increase his size and mass proportionately. The larger he grows, the greater his physical strength and durability become.

Midget (Scintilla) can individually alter her density and stature. By concentrating, she can selectively reduce the mass and volume of her body, enabling her to shrink down to a miniscule size with either an equally diminished mass, or maintain her mass compressed into that frame for increased density, giving her proportionately enhanced strength and durability; carries a projector capable of transmitting her power to alter the size of others.

Neutron, alias Quasar, is a Stygian warrior whose power comes from the black hole singularity that permeates his being, causing him to assume the mass of a dwarf star. With his body mass compressed into a hyper-dense state, this gives him incredible strength and resistance to all manner of physical injury. Besides his natural strength, Neutron can increase his power even further by absorbing outside sources of cosmic energy as fuel for his singularity. He can draw upon natural sources of electromagnetic radiation and energy in the environment, or drain the structural integrity of solid energy constructs like Quasar's quantum forms. The immense gravimetric pressure produced by his singularity also gives Neutron some power over gravity. He can project gravimetric force blasts from his hands and create localized gravity fields to guide the movement of objects through the void of space.

Warstar units are a symbiotic cybernoid employed by the hundreds in the Guard. The most familiar bio-mechanical pair is known as B'nee and C'cil. B'nee, the larger of the two, stands over eight feet tall and has considerable superhuman strength while being virtually impervious to injury. His convertible arms can open up into containment field generators or rapid plasma cannons. C'cil is normal sized and thin by human standards, riding on B'nee's back in a specialized slot. He is also quite strong, though, and can produce high-voltage electrical current on contact. C'cil is the guiding intellect behind the pair, directing B'nee both verbally and through their psychic link. Both robots have highly effective self-repair circuitry which can rebuild significantly lost or damaged portions of their masses.

Hussar is roughly human in appearance, with hooves instead of feet. She carries a whip capable of releasing a powerful neurological stun charge on contact, causing intense pain and temporarily paralyzing her foes’ motor functions.

Earthquake is a quasi-reptilian biped capable of producing vibrational waves from his hands. He can use these waves as shock blasts to trigger a concussive impact when they strike a target, or hold a sustained surge to vibrate the target until it shatters, crumbles, or even disintegrates into powder at high intensities. Directing his waves into the ground enables Quake to create seismic tremors, open up fissures in the earth, and cause masses of rock and stone to rise up and then topple onto an opponent like a tidal wave.

Magic (Magique) is a sorceress possessing various mystical abilities, only a few of which have been seen. She is skilled at creating lifelike, animated three-dimensional images of real people and guiding them through mock combat against opponents. However, her power appears to be visual in nature only, preventing her from making these illusions speak or "feel" substantial. She has created a "witch-mark", a magical brand which attaches itself to a target and cannot be removed, broadcasting the target's location to her through vast distances of space. Once marked, a target cannot escape her notice. A cooperative spell allows her to enchant weapons so that their blaster fire is guided unerring towards whomever possesses the "witch-mark".

Astra can become intangible at will, generating a phasing effect that alters the spacing between her molecules upon contact, making herself untouchable to any form of physical attack and capable of passing through walls and other solid barriers. She can manipulate the state of phase her body exists in in order to disrupt the metabolic activity of living beings as she passes through them, creating intense pain and often forcing her opponents to pass out.

Electron commands electromagnetism, and can use this power for both electrical and magnetic capabilities. He can fire high-voltage shock bolts from his hands and produce magnetic attraction and repulsion, causing ferrous material to move through the air as he wishes, tears themselves to shreds, etc.

Smasher is apparently capable of "downloading" different superhuman powers for use from his exospecs, meaning he has many powers but must consciously activate them before they can be used. So, presumably, these powers would only last for a certain period of time after he calls for them, and then would become dormant again. He has demonstrated flight, superhuman strength, near invulnerability to all forms of physical assault, temperature extremes, or radiation, hand-projected plasma bolts, and a visual power called "penta-vision", giving him telescopic and x-ray sight or laser-like eye beams.

Oracle is a basic telepath. She can scan the thoughts of other sentient beings, communicate telepathically with other people, probe memories, fire psi-stun bolts to cause pain, paralysis or unconsciousness, manipulate perceptions to alter sensory reception, scramble memories and cause confusion, or forcibly assume control of others' minds.

Fang is the title used by the current member of the Imperial Guard hailing from a specific line of genetically-engineered warriors. Each Fang is grown in a gene-vat to full adulthood, replacing one when the prior inheritor falls in battle. There have been several seen working for the Guard so far, and each possessed heightened levels of strength, speed, agility, endurance, and reflexes, hyper-keen senses, and razor sharp fangs and talons, and a phantom gland that exists invisibly and remotely from his body while slightly out of phase with this universe. This serves as his only vital organ and thus he can regenerate from lethal amounts of damage so long as the gland remains intact, and even after the total destruction of his body, a cloned double can be created that accesses his soul and memories from the surviving gland.

Hobgoblin and the Shapeshifters who followed him are representative of a race of shifters whose bodies are composed of a form of unstable molecules.. They are capable of assuming any number of different physical forms, altering their features and clothing, changing into other races, assuming the form of animals or inanimate objects, etc.

Mentor has a hyper-developed intellect which he applies to various pursuits. His computer-like mind is capable of gathering and processing vast amounts of data at once, extrapolating sophisticated and lengthy conclusions at record pace. He is cybernetically tapped into the Intelfeed of the Shi'ar Empire and its fleet, giving him up-to-the-moment information to utilize in his calculations. Mentor's observational and analytical abilities can detect patterns and run probabilities in order to determine highly accurate percentages for how likely a given event or action will be. He can also probe obstacles or opponents, determining the weakest spot in their construction so that applying even a minute amount of force will topple or damage his target.

Impulse is a non-humanoid lifeform, roughly the size and shape of a human heart and capable of releasing significant levels of bio-kinetic energy. He is cloaked in a human shaped containment suit that balloons out from his energies to give him the appearance of possessing mass and human proportions. It also serves to channel his energy, focusing blasts of bio-kinetic force from the visor built into the suit.

Tempest is energy collector able to absorb outside sources of energy and convert it to his own use, generating electrical fire from his body’s super-charged cells, normally in the form of high-voltage blasts radiated from his hands or body. He can also use his energies to produce a blinding flash of light, propel himself through the air in order to fly, and shape shields of energy to protect himself from harm. His powers enable him to absorb outside sources of energy as a means of regenerating his own power supply.

Manta perceives her environment through infrared vision, detecting heat energy signatures and patterns in order to locate warm bio-mass (re: people) even in total darkness and track residual heat trails a short time after a warm object or person leaves the immediate area. The wing like folds under her arms enable her to fly and are used to focus discharges of brilliantly bright blue-white light to dazzle her foes, or a spotlight beam of thermal and concussive energy, to burn and blind opponents.

Nightside is part of a race of people naturally capable of summoning and manipulating the extra-dimensional Darkforce energy to certain degrees. Nightside tends to use the Darkforce as an intangible blackness, blotting out all forms of visible light in a given area to make it completely dark. She herself is of course capable of seeing through this darkness. Nightside has also demonstrated the ability to summon small spatial apertures in thin air by waving her hands, using them to harmlessly swallow up bullets or other projectiles before they reach her. Like Cloak, she can also displace living beings into the Darkforce Dimension, where they are subjected to a metaphysical sense of cold and fear for as long as they remain there. Her manipulation over the Darkforce also extends to that used by other super beings. For example, when Darkstar of Siberforce attempted to blind and cage the Guard with blocks of Darkforce around their heads, Nightside was not only capable of seeing through the barrier, but also of manipulating that Darkforce to make it strike out at Darkstar. Since she was surprised by this, it's possible Darkstar could have fought back against Nightside taking over her Darkforce, in a battle of wills.

Starbolt is constantly aflame with pyroplasmic energy. He underwent a transformation process to achieve his current state. His incendiary physiology does not require food, water, or oxygen to survive. Instead, he feeds off of outside sources of heat, maintaining his health and abilities by absorbing thermal energy from his surroundings. Starbolt possesses infrared vision to assist him in locating heat sources for his abilities. Naturally, his artificially-increased incendiary physiology gives him superhuman resistance to heat and burning, so much so that he can thrive inside of magma flow. He is capable of flight and can radiate pyroplasma as heat, light, and flame, either in all directions from his person or as focused bolts from his hands.

STARJAMMERS

STARJAMMERS

Roster: Corsair (Christopher Summers, leader), Ch’od, Cr+EEE, Hepzibah, Raza Longknife

First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #104, April 1977 (Corsair, Ch’od, Cr+EEE); The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #107, October 1977 (Hepzibah, Raza)

History and Powers: The Starjammers are a band of freewheeling pirates operating primarily in the Shi’ar Galaxy. Having suffered individually at the hands of the Shi’ar government as slaves, the Starjammers plunder Shi'ar starships in order to strike out against the Shi'ar Empire, though taking care not to harm individual passengers. Depending on their relationship with whomever currently occupies the Shi’ar throne, the Starjammers are either officially-recognized privateers or wanted fugitives and rebel terrorists. They share their name with the near-sentient spacecraft called the “HMSS Starjammer” which they liberated from the shipyards during their first escape.

Ch’od is a member of the alien Saurid race native to the Shi’ar Galaxy. The Saurid are sentient reptilians of humanoid form, possessing thick, scaly hides, four fingers (including a thumb on each hand, three clawed toes on each foot, and fan-like appendages resembling those of certain Earth lizards on the sides of his head, forearms, and the backs of his calves. Ch’od possesses superhuman strength (Class 25), endurance, and durability. He also possesses amphibious characteristics, such as lungs and gills that allow him to breathe in both the air and underwater. He is an excellent hand-to-hand combatant, trained in various forms of combat known in the Shi’ar Galaxy. He is a superb swordsman and marksman with various forms of Shi’ar weaponry. He is also a highly skilled starship pilot.

Cr+EEE is a small furry alien from the planet Lupus. He possesses human-level intelligence, but no special attributes.

Corsair is a baseline human from Earth who possesses no superhuman powers. Prior to his capture and enslavement by the Shi’ar, Christopher Summers was already a superb pilot, and thanks to his military training, skilled at the use of various weapons and at hand-to-hand combat. A member of the United States Air Force, he earned the rank of Major. As Corsair, he developed himself into a brilliant starship pilot. He also greatly improved his skills at hand-to-hand combat and mastered the use of various Shi'ar weapons. Corsair also become a highly accomplished swordsman. He also carried exo-gems on his uniform to store objects within pocket dimensional space for easy retrieval, including a pair of pulse blasters, grappling projector, and an alien metal fencing sword.

Hepzibah is a Mephitisoid, an alien feline-humanoid race located in the Shi’ar Galaxy. Like all Mephitisoids, she possesses enhanced speed, agility, endurance, leaping ability, reflexes, highly keen senses of sight, smell and hearing, flexible bone structure, razor sharp claws, a prehensile bushy tail, and the ability to produce pheromone cues to communicate and suggest actions. She is an excellent hand-to-hand combatant, trained in various forms of combat known in the Shi’ar Galaxy. She is a superb swordsman and marksman with various forms of Shi’ar weaponry. She is also highly skilled in acrobatics.

Raza Longknife is native to the Shi’ar Galaxy, but belongs to a different race than the Shi’ar royalty. He underwent bio-mechanical augmentation which left him with various bionic body parts, including his left eye, arm, and hand, as well as much of his face and thorax. He has superhuman strength, agility, endurance, reflexes, energy tracking sensors, multiple enhanced visual modes, a polymorphic bionic hand able to reshape itself into a blade, and an overall imperviousness to lasting physical harm, making him virtually immortal. His cybernetics contain advanced sensor systems and atmosphere processing systems that enable him to breathe in various alien environments. He is an excellent hand-to-hand combatant, trained in various forms of combat known in the Shi’ar Galaxy. He is a superb swordsman and marksman with various forms of Shi’ar weaponry.

LILANDRA

LILANDRA

Real Name: Lilandra Neramani
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #97, February 1976

Powers: Lilandra was a member of the extraterrestrial race known as the Shi'ar. Shi'ar females have mammary glands and are oviparous.

Lilandra possessed the conventional attributes of a Shi'ar, which give her enhanced strength, speed, agility, endurance, reflexes, and durability. The average Shi'ar possesses strength level in the 800 lbs. to 2 ton range and 20 times better endurance than a human. Lilandra also may have possessed minor telepathic powers, but these mostly seem to be the inexplicable psychic link that has always existed between her and Charles Xavier.

Lilandra was an excellent starship pilot and, as Empress Majestrix of the Shi'ar, she wore Shi'ar Imperial armor, employed various Shi'ar weaponry and a ceremonial staff. She was also an excellent hand-to-hand combatant, trained in Shi'ar methods of armed and unarmed combat.

DEATHBIRD

DEATHBIRD

Real Name: Cal'syee Neramani-(Summers?)
First Appearance: Ms. Marvel (Vol. 1) #9, September 1977

Powers: Deathbird is a member of the extraterrestrial race known as the Shi'ar. The Shi'ar have both avian and mammalian characteristics: Although the Shi'ar are outwardly humanoid and mammalian in form, they have feathers instead of hair. At an earlier point in their evolution, the Shi'ar's had fully developed wings attached to their arms, enabling them to fly. Deathbird herself is actually an evolutionary throwback who possesses these functional wings. Shi'ar females have mammary glands and are viviparous.

As a genetic throwback, Deathbird possesses much more obvious bird-like traits than the rest of her avian people, the human equivalent of a mutant looking like a caveman. She has roughly six times the strength of a normal Shi'ar, in addition to superhuman speed, agility, endurance, reaction time, and durability. She has razor tipped talons on the ends of her fingers, strong enough to slice into steel, and wings which extend underneath her arms and can be flapped with enough force to provide lift and flight. At times in the past, Deathbird used a set of telescopic javelins as her personal weapons. Most of these javelins were held in a brace circling her wrist, but she may have had other hidden on her person. Once removed from their cache, most of her javelins extended to their full 32-inch length. She can use these for close quarters combat or as razor pointed throwing weapons. Certain javelins were designed to explode or release toxic fumes on impact, and some were not designed to extend but instead remained in their shorter form and would discharge high-voltage electrical blasts when two were touched together.

VULCAN

VULCAN

Real Name: Gabriel Summers
First Appearance: X-Men: Deadly Genesis (Vol. 1) #1, January 2006

Powers: Vulcan possesses the mutant power to manipulate energy. He is able to tap into any existing source of energy and bend it to his will. He is capable of flight, presumably due to an influence over graviton particles, and is capable of accelerating from a standing start to leave Earth's atmosphere in less than a minute. He is also able to project devastating amounts of energy as light, heat, force, magnetism, and electricity by tapping into, amplifying, and directing naturally-occurring photons, static electricity, and thermokinetic activity from his environment. His power seems capable of producing some kind of protective field, since he can both survive in the vacuum of space and withstand severe physical punishment. He can control directed energy beams or assaults, causing them to disperse or mentally altering their course.

Vulcan can also feel out the power source of an energy projection, reaching out with his power to shut it down on command. He can also use his power to control electronic systems, the electro-chemical current in the brain, etc. His power apparently extends to controlling the bio-energy patterns produced by a superhuman's power signature, letting him manipulate their powers directly. He can suppress energy to render his opponents powerless or access their abilities for his own purposes. It also appears that he doesn’t share the mutual power immunity that exists between his brothers, Cyclops, Havok, and X-Treme. Even so, he is capable of using his mutant power to bend their energies to his will.

When M-Day occurred, Vulcan was directly exposed to the Collective energy wave following the Decimation. This boosted his powers to omega-levels while temporarily giving him access to the geomorphic and temporal psychometry powers of his former teammates (Petra and Sway), while hosting Darwin's reactive evolutionary form.

CORSAIR

CORSAIR

Real Name: Christopher Summers
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #104, April 1977

Powers: Corsair is a baseline human from Earth who possesses no superhuman powers.
