SCORPION BOY

SCORPION BOY

Real Name: Rico
First Appearance: Nightcrawler (Vol. 4) #1, June 2014

Powers: Scorpion Boy's mutation grants him an arthropod physiology. His body combines the physical traits of an ant, a scorpion, and an arachnid. He has six arachnid-like legs and two arms with pincer claws instead of normal hands. He has enhanced mandibles and eyes with no pupils. His pincers and jaw are strong enough to crush small metal items.

He has translucent wings allowing flight over short distances, but cannot support his full weight for long periods. and a scorpion-like tail with a stinger on the tip. The tail can be used as a clubbing weapon or additional limb with limited prehensile capabilities. It is not yet known if his tail's stinger actually delivers venom, though by itself it can be used as an effective stabbing weapon if needed. With his mixed physiology, it's uncertain to what extent he possesses the proportionate abilities of which arthropods.

It's possible that he possesses superhuman strength, superhuman speed, agility, endurance, reflexes, recuperative powers, balance, coordination, and sense of equilibrium. It has been established that he can skitter over walls and ceilings, which implies the ability to manipulate the inter-atomic binding forces of matter, allowing him to form temporary molecular bonds between his body and another object, enabling him to cling to solid surfaces and scale walls simply by placing his hands on them. However, the full extent of his mutant abilities remain to be seen.

NOCTURNE

NOCTURNE

Real Name: Talia Josephine Wagner
First Appearance: Blink (Vol. 1) #4, June 2001

Powers: Nocturne is native to the alternate timeline of Earth-2182 and is the mutant daughter of that reality’s counterparts of Nightcrawler and the Scarlet Witch.

She has inherited most of her father's unique physical traits, including iridescent eyes, blue fur, pointed ears, odd number of fingers and toes, and the ability to adhere to solid objects. She also has a prehensile tail identical to his, which is retractable. Nocturne is capable of accessing extra-dimensional space like Nightcrawler, but in different ways. By opening a warp into the space between dimensions around her hands, she can focus a concussive discharge of energy into our world, creating what she calls her "hex bolts". She also has the power to possess other people by coming into contact with their body and then shifting herself partially through extra-dimensional space. This causes most of her body mass to exit our plane, but allows her to maintain a spectral presence in his victim's body, controlling them.

Nocturne apparently has some low-level telepathic abilities which aid her in assuming control over the mind of her host. Nocturne is in complete control over all her host's conscious actions: Body motion, vocal cords, triggering special powers, etc. Furthermore, Nocturne can express her own physical aspects through the host -- she has manifested significant agility inside her hosts, cast her hex bolts from their bodies, and revealed her presence by causing their eyes to become iridescent like her own. Upon exiting a host body, her victim tends to fall into a temporary coma for about 12 hours.

ABYSS

ABYSS (AOA Version)

Real Name: Nils Styger
First Appearance: X-Men: Alpha (Vol. 1) #1, February 1995

Powers: Abyss’s mutation allows him to transform the substance of his entire body so that it unravels as elastic coils of high-tensile strength material. The wrappings stretch out as they unravel, giving him an extended reach and can be used to entangle and constrict around people and objects from a distance. This also completely changes the way his body can be harmed, for any sort of physical force directed at him merely causes his coils to flex with the impact and shoot back into place unharmed. Virtually his entire body can unravel like this, from his limbs all the way down to his tongue.

His internal structure houses an extra-dimensional void that he can swallow objects into. If he draws people into himself, they experience tremendous psychic anguish and torture for as long as he keeps them there. Abyss has also demonstrated certain additional mutant abilities. He has empathic powers allowing him to sense the emotions of other people within his vicinity. By placing someone into his void, Abyss could amplify and broadcast their fear and terror as psionic tremors, radiating negative empathic energy for miles around, sending people into intense emotional turmoil. He may also have been capable of producing psychoplasmic visual images in thin air.

*This is Abyss from Earth-295 (aka "The Age of Apocalypse"). His Earth-616 counterpart first appeared later in Cable (Vol. 1) #40, February 1997.

CERISE

CERISE

Real Name: Cerise
First Appearance: Excalibur (Vol. 1) #46, January 1992

Powers: Cerise is a Shi'ar warrior whose characteristics give her enhanced strength, speed, agility, endurance, reflexes, and durability. The average Shi'ar supposedly possesses Class 1 strength and 20 times better endurance than a human, but it's unknown how much variability the race has in these traits. Cerise also possesses the ability to fly and generate malleable fields of coherent light in the form of radiant red energy. She can shape her energy projections to form intangible flashes of bright light, solid battering rams, hollow force fields, floating platforms, among other things. Her personal battle suit is stored in a pocket dimension which she can access from her gloves, summoning it to appear over whatever she is wearing at the time. The suit allows her to survive in the vacuum of space and travel through hyperspace dimensions. It also contains a variety of sensor mechanisms, including energy detection, proximity sensors, inter-dimensional navigation, etc.

BAMFS

BAMFS

First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #153, January 1982

Traits: Bamfs are native to the alternate reality of Earth-5311. They appear similar to Kurt Wagner (Nightcrawler of Earth-616) in both appearance and powers. They are acrobatic, blue-furred, black-haired humanoids who have two fingers (and an opposable thumb), two toes, and a prehensile tail. Males have a short, miniaturized appearance with a 1’ tail, while females have a teenage girl’s build with a 2’5” tail. Both sexes can teleport via a brimstone-scented dimension by manipulating an ever-present dimensional portal that surrounds their bodies. Bamfs do not need to have seen a location prior in order to teleport there. They can teleport over greater distances than Nightcrawler without having a specific destination.

Bamfs can sense when other Bamfs are near and tend to be good-natured, but the males are lasciviously flirtatious; females generally find the males too romantically enthusiastic, so keep them at a distance. Bamfs do not use names, as “Bamfs know who they are.”

Modern Bamfs first appeared in the reality of Earth-616 after Azazel found some demon larvae in one of the realms of Hell and fed them his blood, transmogrifying them into Red Bamfs that resembled him. When Nightcrawler abandoned Heaven to fight his father, he imbued some of the Red Bamfs with his own essence, purifying them into the traditional blue Bamfs.

AMANDA SEFTON

AMANDA SEFTON

Real Name: Jimaine Szardos
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #98, April 1976

Powers: Formerly known as Daytripper, Amanda Sefton is a sorceress who followed the path of the Winding Way like her mother Margali Szardos. This meant that her sorcery waxed and waned over time, with periods of great power followed by periods of virtual powerlessness. A follower of the Way who intended to increase their powers would become stronger over time through a series of cycles, but their periods of being powerless would be longer and make them weaker, as the Way sought to make them retain their humility and respect for power as they progressed on the Way. Margali Szardos sought power, and so she went through periods where she outmatched the Sorcerer Supreme, to periods where she was reduced to a powerless beggar living on the streets. Amanda, who did not seek to increase her power as much as her mother, maintained a relatively consistent level of moderate power as a result.

Among the spells Amanda was known for are teleportation, flight, casting shields to defend against elemental or other attacks, the summoning of demons, and transmutation. She could change one set of clothing into another, or mystically change humans into demons and back again. She could sense and manipulate various esoteric forces, such as detecting changes in the timestream or registering psychic phenomena. As Magik, she wielded the Soulsword as Sorceress Supreme of Limbo, channeling her teleportation power through Limbo's stepping discs.

NIGHTCRAWLER

NIGHTCRAWLER

Real Name: Kurt Wagner
First Appearance: Giant Size X-Men (Vol. 1) #1, May 1975

Powers: Nightcrawler’s mutant powers include superhuman agility/dexterity, teleportation, and abnormal physiology. He has a number of unique physical traits, most of which he inherited from his parents, Azazel and Mystique. Kurt's entire body is covered with blue velvet fur, he has iridescent yellow eyes that increase his night vision, pointed ears, fangs, only two fingers and an opposable thumb on each hand and only two toes on each foot plus a third digit which extends from the back of his heel. This third digit is highly dexterous and gives him opposable feet, allowing him to wrap them around and grab objects with superhuman dexterity. He has a highly flexible spine which gives him superhuman agility and acrobatic prowess. His prehensile tail is dexterous enough that he can hang from it on a trapeze or fence with it just as well as with his regular hands. Nightcrawler can cling to solid objects on contact, apparently through some natural suction ability concentrated onto his hands and feet, enabling him to cling to walls and scale vertical surfaces.

Nightcrawler's body is constantly linked to an invisible wormhole-like effect, connecting him to the Brimstone Dimension. Normally, the only effect this wormhole has is absorbing the light from his immediate environment. As a result, Kurt's already-dark blue fur appears to be constantly cast in shadows. When he actually enters an area of shadow or subdued light, Kurt's body can appear to vanish entirely, becoming transparent and blending in with the darkness. When mentally triggered, the wormhole effect becomes active and transports him into the Brimstone Dimension. Nightcrawler then subconsciously travels a short distance within that realm before reappearing on Earth an instant later and some distance away. He can teleport himself, his clothing, and a certain amount of additional mass from one location to another. He consciously determines his point of return. The transit through the Brimstone Dimension is completely intuitive and Kurt is not even aware of his time there. Both his entrances and exits are marked by a burst of flame, the stench of brimstone, and a sudden implosion of air which creates a "BAMF!" noise.

Nightcrawler's teleportation limits are defined by the direction he's traveling in, since the Earth's magnetic ley lines can affect his transits. By teleporting north-south (along the ley lines), Kurt can jaunt 3 miles at a time. Teleporting east-west (against the lines) enables him to jaunt only 2 miles. A strictly vertical teleport straight up and down is the most difficult, and can only cover 1 mile of distance. The future Sentinel known as Nimrod once scrambled Kurt's system electromagnetically, creating a constant disruption effect which prevented Nightcrawler from teleporting more than once in a 24 hour period without risking incredible pain and the possibility of re-emerging inside a solid object. Ironically, months later, Doctor Doom attempted to perform the same attack on Nightcrawler not knowing it had already been done, and accidentally cured Kurt of his limitation.

Nightcrawler is an Olympic-class acrobat thanks to his flexible spine that allows him to perform contortionist-like feats and to go long periods in a semi-crouching position without injury. He is a skilled hand-to-hand combatant and a master at fencing, which he can even perform with his tail, which is strong enough to support his entire body weight. He is fluent in both German and English and is a former ordained priest.
