CABLE

CABLE

Real Name: Nathaniel Christopher Charles Summers
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #201, January 1986 (As child); The New Mutants (Vol. 1) #87, March 1990 (As Cable)

Powers: Nathan Christopher Summers is the mutant son of Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Madelyne Pryor, a genetic clone of the mutant named Jean Grey. His mutant abilities include telepathy, telekinesis, and limited astral time-travel; exhibiting the former two at a very early age.

As a baby, he was telepathically sensitive and could generate a telekinetic force bubble around himself to ward off attack and protect himself from harm. After being infected with Apocalypse's techno-organic virus and transported into a possible 40th century dystopian future, though, the larger portion of his fledgling psionic power was focused on constantly keeping his body together. His telekinesis worked to stop the spread of the virus while his telepathy constantly worked to dampen his sensitivity to the unbearable pain his body was constantly in. As he reached adulthood, his unrestrained telepathic and telekinetic abilities were phenomenal, but most of the time attempting to use them would weaken their grip on the virus, causing him great pain and letting the virus spread. During his teens, he met a fellow psionic named Blaquesmith who helped train him and activated the Professor, the Celestial artificial intelligence formerly known as "Ship" that directly interfaced with his techno-organic parts right before he was sent to the future as an infant, integrating itself into his mind and body. The Professor was able to monitor Nate's bio-signs and access his mutant powers to regulate the virus for Nathan. The Professor also provided him vast amounts of information stored in his databanks, mass and proximity sensors alerting him to potential threats, and wide-spectrum analytical scanning allowing him to monitor the life-signs of other beings, scan them for weaknesses, provide tactical suggestions, etc.

Something happened to him between his last recorded appearances in the future with the Clan Chosen and his first appearance in the present with Six Pack as Cable: His telekinesis was far weaker than it had ever been growing up and his telepathy was simply gone. By the time he began operating as Cable in the modern era, virtually the entire left side of his body had been co-opted by the virus. Cable had forced his T-O virus to work for him, incorporating various weapons and devices into the metal components. First, he used exterior camouflage that would disguise his techno-organics as non-living bionics or synthetic organic material. His strength level increased into the 1 to 5 ton range, and his left eye was equipped with infrared sights, night vision, and computerized targeting options. He often employed retractable laser or plasma weapons, finger torches, cyber-jacks for computer uplinking, and hidden compartments built in his metal for storage. Nathan also had latent transportation powers which the Professor coordinated for him through mechanical relays on Greymalkin, a massive space station Cable had brought back in time with him, complete with a teleportation matrix and TDC (Time Displacement Core). Using computerized commands, Cable could activate body- and tech-slide or time-rip transportation signatures in order to move through time and space. He could travel alone, or coordinate his systems to transport additional organic or mechanical mass. Bodyslide by One, for instance, would teleport him alone; Bodyslide by Six would teleport him and the five people in closest proximity to him; Bodyslide by Six, Pack Gene-Scan would isolate the genetic signatures of his Six Pack team for teleportation wherever they were in his general vicinity, and so on.

During his time with X-Force, Cable's telepathy returned and he began to hone his psionic powers to a greater degree than before. As a telepath, he can read minds and project thoughts, communicate mentally, create mental illusions, fire “mental bolts” used to stun or kill, project his astral form and travel to the astral plane, and exert mental control over a person’s mind. Telekinetically, he can levitate people and objects, create powerful telekinetic blasts, and create a telekinetic force shield.

His astral time travel abilities were completely latent. He could not consciously or deliberately access them at all. Their only use was to act as a catalyst for mechanically engineered space/time displacement, like his bodysliding, TDC, or Shi'ar technology. Essentially, he is a biological power source for time travel effects.

Of course, the extent of his abilities has fluctuated over the years, depending on the state of his T-O infection. After temporarily losing his powers, he began using an Askani weapon known as a psimitar lance to help focus his powers. The psimitar was made from a psycho-sensitive metal that drew upon and amplified the wielder's mental energy into blasts of energy. After his powers eventually returned, Nathan became capable of wielding the full potential of the psimitar. When the cure for the Legacy Virus was released into the world's atmosphere, Cable sensed that it had caused a subtle shift in his own T-O virus, making it possible for him to remove the virus. He succeeded in the attempt, and his power levels began to grow dramatically as a result. The T-O virus eventually returned, but with his expanded power levels, the virus was a minor nuisance at most. Being artificially reduced to childhood and then rapidly accelerating back to his actual age caused him to lose his powers again altogether.

To compensate, he began using technological aids to artificially duplicate his lost powers. He incorporated technology from the Dominus Objective into his mechanical systems, which allowed him to access the Infonet, the electronic datastream blanketing the planet. Essentially a mental and hyper-accurate search engine, Cable could scan through the entire contents of the internet, e-mails and personal correspondences, radio broadcasts, and anything ever transmitted by electromagnetic signal. The Objective enabled him to more efficiently sift through the Infonet's contents to locate whatever he wishes to find. Like telepathy, he can also use the Infonet to project data into other people's minds -- either sharing knowledge he has gleaned from the datastream or his own thoughts and memories. Unlike the intimate mind-touch of telepathy, though, being fed information by the Objective is like "feeling a book". Furthermore, Cable adopted a military force field project called the "Cone of Silence" into use as a personal body suit. He could surround himself with a gravimetric sheath, a protective shield which deflected any kind of personal attack and enabled him to levitate and fly at high speeds. It could also be manipulated outwardly, creating hands of energy which he could use to physically grab people or objects, moving them around or crushing them to pieces.

During the decade-plus he spent raising Hope Summers in the future, Cable's telepathy and telekinesis became active again, but he slowly lost control over his techno-organic virus as well. Later, the techno-organic infection was completely purged from Cable's body by Hope, using the power of the Phoenix. Although he is now unaffected, Cable's human form did not quickly recover or regenerate in the absence of the virus. His left eye is missing, leaving him with an eyepatch, and his left arm was weak and atrophied. He used a "battle-arm" designed by Forge, acting as an exoskeleton to support his arm's weight, provide a level of superhuman strength, and include several forms of micro-munitions launchers. Cable's psychic powers were also remotely manipulated by Blaquesmith and a future version of Hope. He had strong telepathy and telekinesis once more, in addition to fully realized precognitive abilities that fed him information on upcoming threats and disasters. The potency of the visions was so strong, however, it could potentially kill him. Forge and Doctor Nemesis developed a way to mechanically streamline Cable's future-sight, diverting it onto the "mission board" screens at their base for everyone to witness, and lessening the stress it puts on Cable's body at the same time.

Cable's abilities changed again following the Alexandria incident. He was injected with a biotech formula called the Volga effect, designed to weaponize mutant abilities and causing them to violently explode as their powers were destabilized. He attempted to stop the detonation by cutting off his own arm, but the formula continued to exist in his system. As a result, Cable and Doctor Nemesis devised a treatment placing him in cryogenic suspended animation, halting the destabilizing effects of the formula altogether. Sequential clones are then grown from Cable's corrupted cells, and mnemonically imprinted with a copy of his memories. These clones were just as unstable as the original Cable, and would die or explode every 24 hours due to the formula. The mnemonic headband he wore helped maintain some cerebral continuity for Cable between incarnations, recording and then transferring memories from one clone to the next. Cable was working on borrowed time, because his real body would lose two minutes of life every day when it was thawed out for the cloning process. Cable's powers were drastically limited in that state. He could manifest extremely mild telekinesis at times, as well as a few seconds of precognitive insight to guide him in combat. Mostly, he relied upon technological aids such as remote bodysliding and the bionic arm replacing his amputated one.

After Hope cured him of the Volga effect, Cable's capabilities were at an all-time low. He no longer possessed telepathy, telekinesis, or techno-organic capabilities. Even Cable was beginning to feel his physical age, making him weaker and more tired than in the past. He only possessed a limited precognitive ability at this time. Cable was revitalized during a temporal mission which streamlined various divergent timelines growing out of his complicated continuity. Cable merged with these timelines, gaining increased vitality and restoring his telepathy, telekinesis, and techno-organic components. Cable began operating as a temporal warrior, with timeslide and bodyslide capabilities integrated into his techno-organics. They were coordinated by Belle, a "tattoo" on his T-O arm that acted as an artificial intelligence maintaining his technological capabilities, as well as possessing ranged scanning sensors, wireless data retrieval, and so on.

Cable is a highly accomplished warrior and battle strategist. He is highly adept in many forms of hand to hand combat in the use of various forms of weaponry from both the 20th and 40th centuries. Cable also holds a law degree and is licensed to practice law by the New York bar association.

GOBLIN QUEEN

GOBLIN QUEEN

Real Name: Madelyne Jennifer Pryor-Summers
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #168, April 1983

Powers: Madelyne Pryor was a clone of Jean Grey, but originally possessed no powers of her own. The Asgardian mystical Firefountain transformed her temporarily into a healer called Anodyne. She could not only heal any physical wound or disease in this form, but also more specialized problems like Cyclops and Rogue's uncontrollable powers, Aurora's mental problems, Sasquatch's bouts of bestiality, and Puck's mystically-induced shortness. She lost these powers in short order, though.

When Madelyne was shaped by the demons of Inferno into the Goblin Queen, the demonic influence awakened and shaped her latent powers by tapping into the small portion of the Phoenix Force that empowers her consciousness to manifest telepathy and telekinesis. She also gained the abilities to rearrange molecular structures and convert people physically into demons. She also demonstrated mind reading, force fields, telekinetic blasts, flight, and the ability to influence the minds of others, corrupting their desires and seducing them into her service. After her death, a version of Madelyne was brought back accidentally by Nate Grey, a psychoplasmic entity containing an echo of Maddie's memories and personality. This "new" Madelyne was not actually flesh, but psychic energy molded by Nate's tremendous power to look and act like an organic being. In this incarnation, she demonstrated telepathic, telekinetic, and teleportation powers.

Madelyne later had an encounter with Queen Jean Grey of a parallel earth, who "killed" her and replaced her at Nate Grey's side. Madelyne then reappeared as the Red Queen, a psychically-powerful spirit without physical substance.

CORSAIR

CORSAIR

Real Name: Christopher Summers
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #104, April 1977

Powers: Corsair is a baseline human from Earth who possesses no superhuman powers. Prior to his capture and enslavement by the Shi’ar, Christopher Summers was already a superb pilot, and thanks to his military training, skilled at the use of various weapons and at hand-to-hand combat.

A member of the United States Air Force, he earned the rank of Major. As Corsair, he developed himself into a brilliant starship pilot. He also greatly improved his skills at hand-to-hand combat and mastered the use of various Shi'ar weapons. Corsair also become a highly accomplished swordsman. He also carried exo-gems on his uniform to store objects within pocket dimensional space for easy retrieval, including a pair of pulse blasters, grappling projector, and an alien metal fencing sword.

WHITE QUEEN

WHITE QUEEN

Real Name: Emma Grace Frost
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #129, January 1980

Powers: The White Queen is a highly powerful mutant telepath. She can read minds and communicate telepathically, project her astral form, travel to the astral plane, create realistic psionic illusions, fire painful mental bolts of psionic force that can injure or even kill a person, exert partial or full mental control over the minds of others, heal mental trauma or erase memories, and broadcast her thoughts. She can also rearrange a person's brainwaves and stimulate or deaden sections/centers of the brain, telepathically causing others’ hearts to stop beating and “sedate” unconscious/sleeping victims and perpetuate that state for as long as she wills it.

Emma also has a secondary mutation allowing her to physically transmute her entire body into a hardened, organic diamond-like state at will. In this state, her body gains enhanced speed, superhuman strength, endurance, and a high degree of resistance to bodily harm. She can use her indestructible body to smash many kinds of barriers and substances. Despite this, she can be damaged or even shattered, if a projectile strikes a weak point at the proper angle with sufficient force. The transformation to diamond is virtually instantaneous, and she can remain in that state for an undetermined amount of time until she consciously wills herself back to normal; however, she reverts to her normal form if she is rendered unconscious. Her transformation is uniform, Emma cannot become partially or selectively converted, and her body gains additional mass from a presumably extra-dimensional source upon transformation. In her diamond form, she can survive temperature extremes ranging from 70° above absolute zero (-390° Fahrenheit) to approximately 7,362° Fahrenheit before melting.

Her diamond body is virtually tireless since it doesn’t produce fatigue-generating poisons. While in diamond form, her body possesses light reflecting and transmitting properties, known as adamantine luster, which suppresses her telepathy. Emma’s diamond body also emits ultraviolet fluorescence, which triggers photons that end up as molecular vibrations. These vibrations are weakened by Wakandan Vibranium by disrupting her body’s vibrations and slowly reverting to human form. The interaction between her telepathy and diamond skin is inconsistent. Varying instances have her able or unable to use her telepathy when in her diamond state, that her mind is open and vulnerable when in diamond state or that it is mirrored and impenetrable to psychic scans in that form. As part of the Phoenix Five, Emma had the standard powers of cosmic fire enriching extreme telepathy and telekinesis which all Phoenix hosts have had since Jean Grey.

Emma Frost holds a bachelor of science degree in business administration. She is of gifted intelligence and is highly skilled in electronic theory, electronics, and has learned how to build devices that can amplify psionic energy and utilize psionic energy for various effects. A superb businesswoman and highly capable planner, she is the majority stockholder of the multi-billion dollar conglomerate Frost International. She is chairperson of the board of Frost International and its chief executive officer.

Frost International is principally involved in transportation (both the building of ships and aircraft and their use for freight and passenger transport) and electronics. Emma Frost has also become chairperson of the board of trustees of the Massachusetts Academy, a college preparatory school for grades seven through twelve located in the Berkshire Mountains in Snow Valley, Massachusetts. Frost served as the academy's headmistress.

CYCLOPS

CYCLOPS

Real Name: Scott Summers
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #1, September 1963

Powers: Cyclops’ mutant power is the ability absorb ambient solar energy and electricity into his optic nerves. He then metabolizes the energy in order to open a dimensional aperture through his eyes to unleash a ruby-colored form of heatless exotic energy. Cyclops' eyes are no longer the complex organic jelly that utilizes the visible spectrum of light to see the world around it. Instead, by absorbing said energies, they become inter-dimensional apertures between this universe and another, non-Einsteinian universe, where physical laws as we know them do not pertain. This non-Einsteinian universe is filled with particles that resemble photons, yet they interact with this universe's particles by transferring kinetic energy in the form of gravitons (the particle of gravitation). These particles generate great, directional concussive force when they interact with the objects of this universe. The ambient energies he absorbs only serve to open the apertures, it does not affect how powerful his blasts are (though he has shown himself capable of mentally adjusting the intensity of his optic blasts to some degree).

Cyclops' mind has a particular psionic field that is attuned to the forces that maintain the apertures that have opened via his eyes. Because his mind's psionic field envelops his body, it automatically shunts the other-dimensional particles back into their point of origin when they collide with his body. Thus, his body is protected from the effects of the particles, and even the thin membrane of his eyelids is sufficient to block the emission of energy. The synthetic ruby quartz crystal used to fashion the lenses of Cyclops' eyeglasses and visor is resonant to his minds' psionic field and is similarly protected.

The width of his optic blasts seems to be focused by his mind's psionic field with the same autonomic function that regulated his eyes' ability to focus. As Cyclops focuses, the size of the aperture changes and thus act as a valve to control the flow of particles and beam's relative power. The height of the optic blast is controlled by his visor's adjustable slit. His narrowest beam, about the diameter of a pencil at a distance of 4 feet has a force of about 2 pounds per square inch. His broadest beam, about 90 feet across at a distance of 50 feet, has a force of about 10 pounds per square inch. His most powerful blast was a beam 4 feet across which, at a distance of 50 feet, has a force of 500 pounds per square inch, but that has since been surpassed. The maximum angular measurement of his optic blast is equivalent to a wide-angle 35mm camera lens field of view (90 degrees when measured diagonally). The minimum angular measurement is equivalent to the angle that the thickness of a pencil would subtend at 4 feet (3.5 degree, about a quarter of an inch viewed at 4 feet). The beam's effective range is about 2,000 feet, at which point a 1-inch beam has spread out to 10 feet square, and then has a pressure of .38 pounds per square inch. His maximum force is sufficient to tip over a filled 5,000 gallon tank at a distance of 20 feet, or puncture a 1-inch carbon-steel plate at a distance of 2 feet. The extra dimensional supply of energy for Cyclops' optic blast is practically infinite. Thus, so long as Cyclops' psionic field is active (which is constantly), there is the potential to emit energy. Because his power source is so plentiful, and because the apertures only require a small fraction of energy in order to stay open, it is virtually impossible for Cyclops to deplete the energy needed to power them.

The only limit to the optic blast is the mental fatigue of focusing constantly. After about 15 minute of constant usage, the psionic field subsides and allows only a slight leakage of energy to pass through the aperture. Cyclops' metabolism will recover sufficiently for him to continue in about an additional 15 minutes.

For years, it was believed that brain damage sustained in childhood during the first manifestation of his mutant ability rendered him unable to control his power. However, it was later established that Cyclops subconsciously decided to make his optic blasts uncontrollable so that he would be forced to remain constantly vigilant. His eyes constantly emit optic blasts and he does not direct them to cease fire. The only ways that Cyclops can suppress his optic blasts are by shutting his eyes or by donning eyeglasses (or his visor) made from ruby quartz that diffuses the optic energy, thus rendering it undetectable. His visor has gone from being controlled by dials on the side to studs on his gloves to being completely controlled by cybernetic signals picked up from his brain. Cyclops can mentally cause the visor to adjust its lenses, making his blast as thin as a pencil or over a meter wide. The unique properties of the blasts also enable him to perform "bank shots", ricocheting the beams off of solid objects in order to hit multiple targets at once. Cyclops is immune to the effects of his own power. There also exists a mutual power immunity between both him, his brother, Havok, and their younger maternal half-brother, X-Treme.

It was assumed that the aftermath of his experiences as a host for the Phoenix Force left his power in a malfunctioning state. As a result, his optic blasts would spray out uncontrollably in multiple directions simultaneously. This allowed him to hit many targets at once, even outside his line of sight as the beams curved themselves, but he could not always control where the beams went. It was later revealed that the power disruption was due to nano-Sentinels that the Dark Beast unleashed on the five hosts. Cyclops suffered fatal exposure to the Inhumans' Terrigen Mists and died of M-Pox. He was later revealed to be alive due to Kid Cable siphoning off a portion of the Phoenix Force and using it to resurrect Cyclops' body.

Cyclops is also an experienced battle tactician, strategist, and pilot of multiple aircraft.
