H.E.R.B.I.E.

H.E.R.B.I.E.

Real Name: Inapplicable
First Appearance: Fantastic Four (Vol. 1) #209, August 1979

Powers: H.E.R.B.I.E. (Humanoid Experimental Robot B-Type Integrated Electronics) was built by Mr. Fantastic and Master Xar of the extraterrestrial Xandarians, using technology to create a robot that could seek and locate Galactus. Though the original model was destroyed, Mr. Fantastic built a number of other H.E.R.B.I.E. robots to aid him in his laboratory and provide other services at the Baxter Building.

The original H.E.R.B.I.E. models possessed flight capacity, computer interfacing abilities, infrared scanners, retractable arms and metal coils which can wrap around a target, and fire-extinguishing foam. They formerly possessed offensive capabilities, which Mr. Fantastic has since removed. The humanoid model can remain operational even when its head has been removed from its body, contains metallic tendrils and lasers, and can operate devices from Mr. Fantastic's laboratory.

ONSLAUGHT

ONSLAUGHT

Real Name: Inapplicable
First Appearance: X-Men (Vol. 2) #53, June 1996

Powers: Onslaught is a composite psionic entity spawned out of portions of Charles Xavier and Magneto's minds. Initially, "he" existed only as a second personality within Professor X's mind, capable of influencing his actions and actually possessing their shared body at times. After Nate Grey pulled Xavier's astral form into the physical plane, however, Onslaught learned how to manifest itself tangible as a living psi-armor (though this doesn't really explain how he battled Juggernaut and assaulted Blaquesmith's yacht beforehand).

As living psi-armor, Onslaught initially manifested himself around his host, Charles Xavier, but later operated independently of an organic body. Composed out of tangible psionic energy, Onslaught was capable of increasing the physical size, strength, and durability of his armored form at will and, after separating from Xavier, morph his physical appearance to look like whatever he wished. He possessed telepathic, telekinetic, and electromagnetic powers on a grand scale, as well as the ability to assimilate other sources of mutant power into himself at will. Not only did this make him virtually immune to assault by other mutants, but it also enabled him to amplify his power dramatically by incorporating Nate Grey and Franklin Richards into his "self", physically encaging them within the dimension of his own mind to feed off of them. He began manifesting reality-altering powers to tremendous degree as his personal evolution continued.

AHAB

AHAB

Real Name: Roderick Campbell
First Appearance: Fantastic Four Annual (Vol. 1) #23, July 1990

Powers: Ahab is the Earth-811 counterpart of Dr. Roderick “Rory” Campbell. He was bionically-enhanced in his native timeline with cybernetic limbs which augment his strength, durability, and reflexes. He can tap his own life-force to create psychic harpoons and key them to a specific target, disrupting their neural pathways in order to stun, paralyze or kill others. His harpoons can also transform his victims into Hounds keyed to their progeny's genetic "scent". Lastly, he can access a cross-temporal pocket laboratory and able to travel through space-time via that location. Becoming Famine after being genetically altered by Apocalypse gave him the ability to emaciate opponents by draining their life energy.

HYPERSTORM

HYPERSTORM

Real Name: Jonathan Reed Richards
First Appearance: Fantastic Four (Vol. 1) #404, September 1995

Powers: Hyperstorm’s mutation grants him linkage and access to the extra-dimensional realm of hyper-space. The dimension of hyper-space is accessible from Earth and its physical laws differ from Earth's in the following ways: First, it is possible to surpass the speed of light within hyperspace without directly violating Einstenian laws of relativity. Second, hyper-space is "warped" in comparison to Earth's dimension so that the distance between two points in hyper-space might be immensely shorter than the distance between the equivalent points in Earth's dimension. Lastly, hyper-space is the source of all energy in the universe. As such, Hyperstorm has control of the four basic fundamental forces of the universe (electromagnetism, gravitation, and the strong & weak nuclear forces). He can manipulate these forces so as to augment his physical strength, endurance, reflexes, and durability, increase or negate the effects of gravity, project and manipulate electricity, magnetic fields, heat energy, and explosive bursts, shape ambient energy in any manner he wishes, restructure matter at the sub-molecular level, and perform telepathic feats. His mutant power places him on par with some of the most powerful cosmic beings in the universe.

PRESTIGE

PRESTIGE

Real Name: Rachel Anne Summers
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #141, January 1981

Powers: Formerly known as Phoenix III and Marvel Girl III, Rachel Summers is a mutant originally possessing moderate-to-high telepathic and telekinetic abilities inherited from her mother (Jean Grey of Earth-811). She can read minds, broadcast her thoughts, create realistic illusions in a person’s mind, project her astral form, control a person’s mind, communicate mentally, and project bolts of mental energy used to stun or kill a person. She can telekinetically move or manipulate objects with mental energy from her mind, erect force fields of telekinetic energy, and create bursts of telekinetic energy.

Her mutation also includes a time-shifting power. Through a psionic act, Rachel can take the astral consciousness of a living being and cast it through time and space. This allows Rachel or any other person she chooses to view the past as an invisible and intangible spectre before returning to their present. Rachel was also able to switch a person's mind with their own past counterpart, sending the future Kitty Pryde's mind to possess her Earth-616 past body and vice versa.

After becoming the host for the Phoenix Force, Rachel's powers expanded considerably. Her mutant powers dramatically increased in power and scope. She became capable of projecting the Phoenix Raptor around her body to shield herself from harm, survive in the vacuum of space, travel faster-than-light, and use the raptor's cosmic flame as a focus for tremendous energy to disable opponents. Her time-shifting power was also augmented so that she could physically travel through time. Rachel was now capable of jumping ahead a few second in the timeline in order to avoid attacks, or transport herself and others into completely different temporal eras. She also could rearrange molecular structures, and generate temporal shields as protection from time- or reality-based distortions.

After the Phoenix Force abandoned her body and she returned to the 616 timeline, Rachel's powers were greatly diminished back to roughly their original levels. Later, she was the pawn of Elias Bogan for some time. It remains unclear how this may have affected her long term, but Rachel came to possess a new power signature (a visible sign of her psychic abilities being used): Her skin turned jet-black in coloration and a Phoenix symbol appears over one eye. This effect faded after being exposed to Korvus' Blade of the Phoenix and she later manifested her power through the blue Phoenix flame of Rook'shir. This returned her to her Phoenix-potential power levels. However, the Phoenix fragment mysteriously left her once more.

FRANKLIN RICHARDS

POWERHOUSE

Real Name: Franklin Benjamin Richards
First Appearance: Fantastic Four Annual (Vol. 1) #6, November 1968

Powers: Franklin Richards is the son of Reed and Sue Richards (aka Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman of the Fantastic Four). The cosmic radiation which altered the Richards' genes to give them superhuman abilities resulted in the development of an x-gene in their son's genetic structure. As a result, Franklin was born a mutant and, unlike most mutants, manifested his powers during childhood.

Franklin possesses phenomenal potential for mental powers, including telepathy, telekinesis, and reality altering. Early occasions showed Franklin capable of atomizing living beings with explosive psionic force, bestowing superhuman physical and psionic powers on other people ("Ego-Spawn"), and aging himself and his powers to adulthood on a whim ("Avatar"). After this last incident, the adult Franklin returned himself to childhood, placing psionic dampeners on his own mind to keep his abilities in check until he reached adulthood. A small fragment of his powers still managed to manifest itself through the dampeners, though, and it was during this period of time that Franklin was a member of the Power Pack as Tattletale. He began receiving precognitive visions in his dreams, as his unconscious mind began playing out scenarios based on upcoming events. These dreams varied in intensity and accuracy, but always represented something that was going to happen in the near future. He could also project his "dream-self", similar to an astral form. Tattletale would project his consciousness as a psionic representation of his physical body, visible to the naked eye and indistinguishable from his normal appearance. His "dream-self" was intangible and could travel anywhere he could conceive of in an instant. His mind was still active in his body while his "dream-self" was out, though: He could send his psi-form out on reconnaissance, and physically report to others what his "dream-self" was perceiving at another location.

His other powers began to manifest themselves far more frequently, however, and Franklin's psionic potential was beginning to rage out of control. His grandfather, Nathaniel Richards, removed him from our timeline and raised him in a parallel reality, sending him back to the Fantastic Four the instant after he left, only now as a teenager. Franklin, now called Psi-Lord, had full access to and relatively good control over his telepathic and telekinetic powers now, capable of performing all the standard feats associated with those abilities (read minds, communicate psionically, control or alter thoughts and memories, create illusions, project psionic force blasts or fields, levitate himself and other forms of matter, etc). He also used wrist braces which allowed him to access a full suit of psi-sensitive armor, normally stored in a pocket dimension. This suit was equipped with psi-sensitive materials that could dampen his psi-energy to safe levels if he got out of control, and harness his powers to channel them safely without risking an overload. The suit also contained a series of sensors capable of detecting energy signatures, psionic activity, dimensional transits, etc. At one point, though, Franklin's powers began to manifest uncontrollably, creating a series of pseudo-independent counterparts: Tattletale, Ego-Spawn, and Avatar. Eventually, his alternate timeline son, Hyperstorm modified the timeline to return Franklin to his correct age, effectively undoing Psi-Lord's existence.

Often considered to be the most powerful mutant ever born, his reality altering power is such that he can create entire universes at will. He can control their growth, shape their physical laws, conjure new elements to the universe (as Onslaught did with Franklin's powers when he created a second sun in the sky). He hasn't demonstrated absolute power over life and death, however, other than nurturing the development of life in his pocket universes. So while there were many, many people created by Franklin to inhabit the Heroes Reborn universe, he hadn't shown the ability to individually wish them in and out of existence. His reality-altering mutant ability is universal and omega-level as he can manipulate matter and energy, laws of physics, and has demonstrated control over memory and history.
