GATEWAY

GATEWAY

Real Name: Unknown
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #229, May 1988

Powers: Gateway is a mutant and also a medicine man for his Australian Aboriginal tribe. He was well-versed in the quasi-mystical religion and practices of his people, including the "dream time". As a result, he possesses a wide range of powers and abilities not specifically attributed to either source. In either case, Gateway is capable of opening up portals between time, space and dimensions. He typically does this by whirling his bullroarer, but while his gateways sometimes materialized within the radius of the spinning rock, it is apparently not necessary for them to do so. The portals he opened can transport people to anywhere on the planet's surface, across decades of time, and into alternate planes of perception. It was through the last method that Gateway was able to visually show Wolverine how Magneto's "dark ego" infected Xavier's mind to create Onslaught.

Gateway has at least some form of telepathic perception and communication abilities. Although he rarely chooses to, he can speak aloud or mentally by projecting his thoughts at others. He is sensitive to the thoughts of others, and so always knew where the X-Men wanted to go when they were living in Australia with him, and when they wanted to be summoned home, despite not noticeably communicating with them in any way. Gateway can apparently perceive in advance any location to opens a portal to, a form of omni-clairvoyance which keeps him well informed about the past, present and future.

THE REAVERS

REAVERS

Real Names: Unrevealed
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #229, May 1988

Powers: (l to r) Pretty Boy, Bonebreaker, and Skullbuster were leaders of the original Reavers, criminal cyborgs operating in the Australian outback. All of them have had various cybernetic modifications performed on their bodies, but how they came to receive their original modifications (or even how they came together as a group) remains unknown.

Pretty Boy is a cybernetic organism whose body has been almost completely replaced by bionic systems. Initially, his nickname stemmed from his handsome apperance and the fact that pseudo-flesh covered all of his cybernetics, making him look human on the outside. After suffering serious injuries, though, he was rebuilt with only his head still looking human, and the rest of his body as an openly visible metallic chassis. Pretty Boy also has enhanced strength, speed, agility, endurance, reflexes, and durability, along with heightened vision and hearing. His arms are able to telescope to many times their original length, and after his rebuilding he has a "cable-trap" in his chest which pops open and ensnares his opponents at close range, immobilizing and crushing them. Pretty Boy can also reprogram the minds of other people, using cyber-filament wires which extend from his optic sensors into the eyes of his victims. These give him direct neural access to his victim's brain, allowing him to alter their memories, personality, inclination or violence, and so forth.

Bonebreaker underwent an operation which amputated his lower body, replacing it with a tank-like systems module with various offensive capabilities.

Skullbuster concealed his facial features behind a skull-like mask, so the full extent of his cybernetic enhancements remains unclear. Both men's physical attributes are bionically-augmented to enhanced human levels of strength, speed, agility, endurance, reflexes, and durability, along with heightened vision and hearing. The highly advanced level of cyborg, robotic, and computer technology implanted into their bodies also gives them infrared scanners and the ability to interface with computers, allowing direct data access to their brains’ memory centers. They also carry machine guns, explosive shells, plasma cannons, electrified nets, and rocket propulsion packs.

LADY DEATHSTRIKE

LADY DEATHSTRIKE

Real Name: Yuriko Oyama
First Appearance: Daredevil (Vol. 1) #197, August 1983 (as Yuriko Oyama); Alpha Flight (Vol. 1) #33, April 1986 (As Lady Deathstrike)

Powers: Yuriko Oyama became Lady Deathstrike after undergoing cybernetic enhancement via Spiral's Body Shoppe. Her first transformation recreated her father's Adamantium bonding process, adding both pure Adamantium and advanced cybernetic circuitry and components to her original body. Over time, Yuriko upgraded herself so extensively that her original body is now completely gone. In recent years, she inhabited purely mechanical bodies mixed with artificially grown flesh and hair over this cybernetic chassis. She could abandon damaged bodies by transmitting her consciousness electronically over a hardline or via satellite transmission relays, uploading herself into a new body or safe storage facility. Presently, Yuriko exists as a downloadable nanotech delivery package. She forged an alliance with Ana Cortes of Bogata, who provided her body as a canvas for Yuriko's nanotech. Ana was imprinted with Yuriko's mind and nanites -- the two of them now co-occupy Ana's body, which is being rewritten on a subatomic level by Yuriko's nanites to recreate her cybernetic structure and powers.

Her enhancements grant her superhuman strength, foot speed, agility, endurance, reaction time, telescopic vision, hearing, and resistance to physical injury. Her skeleton is laced with Adamantium metal to make it virtually indestructible, and her cybernetics contain nanite re-generators which can repair certain levels of damage without outside repairs. She has foot long Adamantium talons extending from each of her fingernails, and she can extend both the talons and her arms to more than twice their original lengths. She has also demonstrated the ability to produce electrical charges through her mechanical components, and can extend interface jacks which allow her to mentally hack into computer systems and then either operate or reprogram them with her thoughts.

Lady Deathstrike is a remarkably skilled martial artist, considered an expert in the art kenjutsu and other samurai warrior skills. She is fluent in both English and Japanese and is an accomplished pilot of various aircraft and seacraft.

COLE, MACON, & REESE

COLE, MACON, & REESE

Real Names: Wade Cole, Angelo Macon, and Murray Reese
First Appearances: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #133, May 1980 (as guards); The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #152, December 1981 (ss cyborgs)

Powers: Wade Cole, Angelo Macon, and Murray Reese were originally human mercenaries employed as guards by the Hellfire Club’s Inner Circle. After the three were severely wounded in battle against Wolverine, they were converted into cyborgs by the Inner Circle (with later modifications provided by Donald Pierce).

They each have cybernetic implants, a nature which is further evidenced by the wiring and circuitry visible along their bodies. Their physical attributes are bionically-augmented to enhanced human levels of strength, speed, and reflexes. The highly advanced level of cyborg, robotic, and computer technology implanted into their bodies also gives them infrared scanners and the ability to interface with computers, allowing direct data access to their brains’ memory centers. All three also carry machine guns, explosive shells, plasma cannons, electrified nets, and rocket propulsion packs.

DONALD PIERCE

DONALD PIERCE

Real Name: Donald Pierce
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #132, April 1980

Powers: Formerly the White King of the Hellfire Club's Inner Circle, Donald Pierce is a cyborg who has been rebuilt repeatedly throughout the years. Initially, he was a human injured by the mutant cyborg Cable, necessitating his four bionic limbs and requisite reinforcement to his spine. Now, Pierce is now clearly nothing more than a mechanical humanoid commanded by the still-organic brain built inside his metal skull casing. He employs synth-organic flesh to disguise himself as an outwardly normal human being. Initially, Pierce's powers were almost exclusively physical: Superhuman increases to his strength (Class 10), speed, endurance, reaction time, and ability to withstand punishment. He was also capable of conducting an electrical charge through his hands in order to incapacitate an opponent. He has been upgraded numerous times since then, though, especially after Trevor Fitzroy and his Sentinels devastated the Reavers.

Among his newer capabilities are flight jets in his boots and integrated electromagnetic plasma blasters due to Cable's technology he appropriated, and later still a morphing quality in his metallic hands that gave him multiple abilities, including firing mini-missiles filled with specially tailored combat nanites (to attack and disable particular mutants and their abilities) and extending his fingers into blades, charging them with electrical energy, or extending mono-molecular energy lashes from his fingertips which can cut through virtually anything.

Donald Pierce was born into a wealthy family who made their fortune decades ago by capitalizing on the trade of cotton, rum, and slaves during the 19th century. Investing his money in the mining industry, he created the Pierce-Consolidated Mining Company. As the company's CEO and principal shareholder, he generated even more revenue and wealth. He held graduate degrees in business administration and geological engineering and was an accomplished strategist and business administrator. Donald Pierce was also a genius with electronics, able to create deadly robots with personalities and offensive weaponry, and able to cybernetically enhance biological entities with electronic components.
