THRENODY

THRENODY

Real Name: Melody Jacobs
First Appearance: X-Men (Vol. 2) #27, December 1993

Powers: Threnody’s mutation enables her to sense the presence and emotions of living organisms who are either dead or dying. Originally her mutant power seemed limited to mutants who suffered from the Legacy Virus, but now it encompasses all forms of death.

When someone dies within a 1-mile radius of her position, Threnody absorbs the energy released from that death and stores it within her own body. She can discharge the energy as highly destructive blasts of plasma energy. Following her own death, Threnody now exists as an animated corpse. In addition, her power mutated to the point where she can reanimate dead bodies by imbuing them with a fraction of the energy that she absorbed from them at the time of their death and mentally direct them.

INFECTIA

INFECTIA

Real Name: Josephine
First Appearance: X-Factor (Vol. 1) #28, May 1988

Powers: Infectia had the mutant ability to psionically scan and visualize the molecular structures of living things, including her own, and then rearrange their physical forms with a touch in any way she could imagine. She accomplished the latter by inducing genetic mutations on a molecular level. Her father was a geneticist and learning from him about genetics allowed her to better comprehend the nature of her mutant power. She primarily used her power to create henchmen that she called "Anti-Bodies".

Through physical contact, usually a kiss, Infectia would transform men into Hulk-sized monstrous-looking creatures of limited intelligence within seconds. These mutates tended to obey her every whim, though whether this was a facet of their transformation or a part of her natural charms is unknown. The Anti-Bodies demonstrated a number of individual super-powers such as strength, force blasts, amphibious traits, or size-changing. Whether Infectia was consciously choosing these powers for them or not is also unclear. Anti-Bodies had a limited lifespan, and their power would eventually eat them up from the inside-out, causing them to disintegrate. The process would be accelerated the more active they were. Infectia also used her powers once to make a bouquet of flowers grow considerably and stave off the effects of the Legacy Virus prior to her death.

PYRO

PYRO

Real Name: St. John Allerdyce
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #141, January 1981

Powers: Pyro possesses the mutant ability to assume psionic control over fire. He can manipulate the size, shape and intensity of his flames. He can extinguish existing flames or feed the fire to make even the smallest spark grow to enormous size. Pyro can mentally regulate the flame's temperature, and shape it in any number of ways. He can cause columns or walls of flame to shoot up, form giant grasping hands out of flame, or project flame jets that tracked a moving target wherever it went. Pyro can create animated figures out of fire, forming fire-people, birds, or dragons that move and act under his commands. He can somehow forge flames that were solid enough to interact with physical objects, like flaming creatures which could lift up people in their hands. He can make his fire have sufficient solidity to achieve extra force, and make his fire so intense that bullets melt before they hit him. In order to control fire, it has to be within a 100 yard radius of Pyro and in his line-of-sight, he cannot manipulate a fire that he is viewing on live television. He is invulnerable to fire under his mental control, but if he was to take his attention from it, he could be badly burned. On two occasions Pyro has been known to fly or hover by propelling himself with fire.

Because Pyro can’t generate flames on his own, he always has a fuel pack and flamethrowers attached to his wrists as a part of his fireproof costume. His flame throwers provide him with a constant source of fire to manipulate and shoot on mental command, traveling a distance of 25 feet without Pyro's aid.

St. John Allerdyce holds a college degree and was an accomplished journalist for an Australian wire service. He was also a successful writer of gothic romance novels.

MAGIK

MAGIK

Real Name: Illyana Nikolaevna Rasputina
First Appearance: Giant-Size X-Men (Vol. 1) #1, May 1975 (As Illyana); The New Mutants (Vol. 1) #14, April 1984 (As Magik)

Powers: Magik’s mutant power enables her to manipulate the stepping discs of the demonic extra-dimensional realm of Limbo. The stepping discs are portals that allow transportation through time, space, and dimensions. They are a natural phenomenon in Limbo and crop up all over the landscape to connect distant points. Magik can summon a stepping disc regardless of her location. When Magik uses her teleportation portals, she passes through Limbo for a fraction of a second between jumps. Because Limbo is non-linear, Magik sometimes risks disrupting her sense of time when teleporting. She has control over short distances, but with longer distances (teleporting across continents, for example) she could end up displaced backwards in time from a few minutes to a week.

As part of the Phoenix Five, Illyana had the standard powers of cosmic fire enriching extreme telepathy and telekinesis which all Phoenix wielders have had since Jean Grey. She demonstrated a greater ability to manipulate the connection between Earth and Limbo created by her stepping discs, the biggest example being the prison she created inside of a volcano, a stable pocket of Limbo permanently tied to a single location on Earth, with transition seamlessly back and forth between the two.

Magik is also the Sorceress Supreme of Limbo's dimension and can manipulate mystical energy for a variety of effects. Her primary attribute is the Soulsword and the mystical armor that manifests on her body whenever she uses it. The sword can affect magical creatures or those possessed or enchanted by magic. It can disable spells with a touch of its blade and is lethal to all kinds of magical creatures. In the aftermath of the Phoenix Five, her powers reportedly enhanced, but whether this was due to the nano-Sentinels Dark Beast unleashed on the others or because of Dormammu's influence on Limbo is unclear. She demonstrated greater control over her stepping discs, summoning multiple discs simultaneously to connect to multiple different locations in Limbo, allowing specific beasts or phenomena from Limbo to tactically emerge as she intended. Her training with Dr. Strange gave her a greater control over magic in the Earthly plane. As a New Mutant, at least, Illyana's powers as Sorceress Supreme of Limbo were typically bound to Limbo, leaving her only the inherent capabilities of her Soulsword on Earth. So now she is capable of accessing the same sort of spells and magical power she had before, only now she's accessing it elsewhere from Limbo.

Additionally, she previously experienced an ongoing mystical corruption, causing her to become the Darkchilde. The transformation is a symbol of her corruption, as more dark magic settles into her body in place of her soul. This makes her progressively more powerful and less human. In her Darkchilde form, she manifested mystical armor whenever she summoned her powers, then slowly but progressively turning into a demonic form.
