CÚCHULAIN THE IRISH WOLFHOUND

CÚCHULAIN THE IRISH WOLFHOUND

Real Name: Cúchulain
First Appearance: Guardians of the Galaxy Annual (Vol. 1) #3, August 1993

Powers: Cúchulain the Irish Wolfhound is a Celtic warrior from ages past, summoned by Doctor Druid in the alternate future of Earth-691 to serve as protector of the Book of Kells. A demigod born of the Celtic god Lugh and a mortal woman, Cúchulain possesses all of the conventional attributes of the Tuatha de Danaan (Celtic Gods).

He is a true immortal who ceased to age upon reaching adulthood, and they cannot die by conventional means. He is immune to all terrestrial diseases and is resistant to conventional injury. If wounded, his godly life force will enable him to recover at a superhuman rate. It would take an injury of such magnitude that it incinerates him or disperses a major portion of his bodily molecules to cause him to die. Even then, it may be possible for a god of greater or equal power, or several gods acting together, to revive him before Cúchulain's life essence is beyond resurrection. Tuatha flesh and bone are made of carbon matter about three times denser than similar human tissue, contributing to the gods' superhuman strength and weight. An average male god can lift about 35 tons; an average goddess can lift about 25 tons. Cúchulain himself is an exception and possesses Class 100 strength. Additionally, his main weapon is the spear of Gae-Bolg.

Though generally larger than Asgardian and Olympian deities, the Celtic gods have slightly slower reflexes (with notable exceptions, such as Leir, Caber, and Cúchulain). The gods' metabolism gives them superhuman endurance in all physical activities. Many Tuatha also possess additional superhuman powers and are highly skilled in magic. For instance, the animal god Cernnunos possesses the ability to shape-shift into various animal forms and communicate with all animal species, both wild and domesticated.

The Celtic gods become weak after prolonged stays in the Earth realm, and are only able to manifest via a mortal host with whom the god forms a symbiotic partnership. A mystic tattoo serves as the symbol of this link, and although the god can exist separately from his or her host for a time, he or she must inevitably return to the host body to regain strength. The link places a great stress on the mortal host, who usually dies a premature death; however, if the mortal host dies a violent death while still connected to the Tuatha, the god will be consigned to Oblivion.

NEBULA

NEBULA

Real Name: Unknown
First Appearance: Avengers (Vol. 1) #257, July 1985

Powers: Nebula was converted by extraterrestrial scientist, Dr. Mandibus, into a cyborg. She has an artificial left eye, arm, and shoulder. The upper left quarter of her head and part of her right hip are sheathed in metal. She possesses superhuman strength (Class 25) and durability. She has blasters worn on both wrists that fire both concussive blasts of an unknown form of energy and heat blasts that can incinerate a person almost instantly. She once wore a device that allowed her to disguise her appearance, through either holographic projection or a molecular rearrangement of both her body and clothing.

Nebula briefly possessed unlimited superhuman powers on two occasions: Once, when she was in possession of the Infinity Union, a combination of three devices which could channel all forms of ambient energy into her when together. The second was when she possessed the Infinity Gauntlet holding all six of the Infinity Gems, which gave her seemingly absolute control over reality.

A gifted intellect, she is an excellent battle strategist.

ROCKET RACCOON

ROCKET RACCOON

Real Name: Rocket Raccoon
First Appearance: The Incredible Hulk (Vol. 1) #271, May 1982

Powers: Rocket Raccoon hails from an extraterrestrial colony known as Halfworld. He and other animals like him were artificially evolved to possess human-like intelligence and reasoning skills. He has fully opposable hands, and maintains animal-like senses that give him better-than-human night vision and sense of smell. Rocket's genetic acceleration gave him a heightened intuitive grasp, allowing him to process information and learn new skills at a highly advanced rate. This made him an excellent pilot, capable of flying even interstellar vehicles like an expert, and allowed him to quickly master any new weapon he came across. Rocket originally carried a laser pistol and used jet skates which gave him the power of limited flight. His companion, Groot, sometimes serves as his mobile weapons platform when Rocket employs larger guns. More recently, however, he adopted the use of demolitions equipment and heavy munitions ordinance as his weapons of choice.

GROOT

GROOT

Real Name: Groot
First Appearance: Tales to Astonish (Vol. 1) #13, November 1960

Powers: Groot is a Floral Colossus, and the monarch of Planet X (Tahlunia) Groot has a massive body composed of dense wood with a tough bark hide and branch-like protrusions, giving Groot extraordinary strength and durability. Groot can absorb water and other nutrients through Groot's flesh in order to survive, heal, and grow to even greater heights. Groot can also absorb inanimate sources of wood into Groot's body to increase Groot's mass, or mentally animate trees from a distance, directing them to move according to Groot's will. A small sprig or branch of Groot's body can broken off and restructure itself into a fully animated duplicate of Groot's main form. Groot uses this ability to survive fatal injuries, detaching a portion of Groot to continue living even after Groot's original body is destroyed. Groot has so far not demonstrated the ability to animate several bodies simultaneously, only consecutively, abandoning one body in favor of another. Depending on the size of the sprig, Groot's new body is often quite small until Groot absorbs enough water and nutrients to accelerate Groot's growth.

Groot is highly intelligent and has a tremendous grasp of quasi-dimensional super-positional engineering. Despite his intelligence, Groot's robust and heavyweight physiology causes the organs of his acoustic generation to become stiff and inflexible, rendering the limits of his speech to the simple phrase, "I am Groot.”

STAR-LORD

STAR-LORD

Real Name: Peter Jason Quill
First Appearance: Marvel Preview (Vol. 1) #4, January 1976

Powers: Star-Lord is a hybrid born to a human mother and Jason, Prince of Spartoi. In his initial history, he was later transfigured into a force for good by the entity known as the Master of the Sun. Although it was originally presented that this transformation may have given Peter Quill superhuman powers and abilities, later events indicated that he merely gained highly exotic technology and equipment. Given further revelations to Quill's history, it's unknown if he ever met the Master of the Sun at all.

His uniform gave him the ability to fly unaided and survive in the vacuum of space. His primary weapon was an element gun, a side-holstered blaster which is capable of channeling earth, wind, water, and fire by tapping nearby planetary biospheres and accessing their elemental nature. It can thus act as a flame-thrower, generate funnels of compressed air, stream of pressurized water, a battering of rock and earth particles, etc.

After his battle with the Fallen One, Quill abandoned his old identity and weapons and, over time, acquired several cybernetic implants in his brain and left eye. These gave him a number of built in features such as a universal translator, scaled vision allowing him to visually perceive all forms of energy patterns, and an integrated memory chip that gave him perfect recall of everything he had experienced since getting the cybernetics. His cyborg parts were removed by Kree surgeons when he was inducted into a "no-tech" guerilla squad to oppose the Phalanx occupation.

KORVAC

KORVAC

Real Name: Michael Korvac
First Appearance: Giant Size Defenders (Vol. 1) #3, January 1975

Powers: Michael Korvac was a collaborator with the Badoon in the 31st century of Earth-691. A highly skilled computer technician born on the Blue Area of the Moon, he was transformed into a living computer by his masters when they amputated his lower body, replacing it with a free-flying systems module. Already possessed of genius intelligence, Korvac's human mind was now supported by advanced computer technology, increasing his capacity for invention and analysis. This enabled him to anticipate an opponent's every action, and devise and appropriate counter-response at the speed of thought. This not only allowed him to avoid danger, but also allowed him to utilize the variable components inside his weapons console to retaliate with offenses specifically tailored to a target's weaknesses. He could even block and reflect magic spells cast by Doctor Strange.

Korvac's analytical powers also extended to reproducing energy signatures of various kinds after scanning them. In this manner, he gained the power to teleport himself and others through time and space, after being transported around himself as a pawn of the Grandmaster. His computer module was also capable of "plugging in" to other computers, enabling him to download information directly into his mind, or take control of electronic systems through this interface. Korvac was able to project force beams from his module or bionically from his hands, and generate a stasis field to protect himself from injury. His cybernetic eye could project a neural mesmerism beam, allowing him to subvert the wills of anyone in his line-of-sight. This could be accomplished either through subliminal suggestions, forcing victims to carry out specific actions against their conscious will, or completely subverting his targets into glassy-eyed slaves, with no conscious will to act save for doing what he commanded.

After infiltrating Galactus' world-ship and exposing himself to infinite knowledge, Korvac evolved into a god-like being that came to be known simply as The Enemy, or Michael. He became attuned to the universe at a level equivalent to Eternity or other abstract cosmic beings, and was capable of influencing reality on a vast scale. Possessing a cosmic awareness, Michael could pinpoint any entity within all the planes of reality, and observe them from afar using windows of energy he cast in thin air. Besides viewing events, he could also probe deeper into people and objects, scanning them in all possible ways: telepathically, empathically, spiritually, molecularly, and so on. His powers also extended to masking himself from detection, even by cosmic beings such as the Watcher and Eternity. Michael was able to teleport himself and others across vast distances, and could materialize anything he could think of merely by wishing it. He could assume an energy form that was the active expression of his power, giving him Class 100 strength, near-invulnerability, and the power to cast cosmic energy as heat, force, magnetism, disintegration beams or protective energy screens. He could project this energy physically or simply will it to strike down a foe at some distant location. By destroying Starhawk at a physical, spiritual, and cosmic level and then rebuilding him from nothing, Michael was able to recreate him without any knowledge of their encounter and screen Starhawk from ever recognizing his existence again with any of his senses.

GAMORA

GAMORA

Real Name: Gamora
First Appearance: Strange Tales (Vol. 1) #180, June 1975

Powers: Gamora of the Zen-Whoberi was trained from childhood to be an assassin by Thanos, and her skeleton has been reinforced to become virtually indestructible. She has superhuman strength, agility, endurance, reflexes, and radically-advanced regenerative powers. She had roughly Class 10 strength before her death, but Adam Warlock made her considerably stronger when they were resurrected in new bodies during the Infinity Gauntlet, making her around Class 90. When she had the Time Gem in her possession, Gamora would occasionally experience flash-visions of the future, alerting her to events that would come to pass at some later date. This power was completely out of her control, however. Since that time, brief reference has been made to Gamora possessing a "precog tracking instinct", which allowed her to trace Nova's movements through space and between space. It's possible this was a residual power she retained from exposure to the Gem, like Pip's teleporting. Later, after setting up the mercenary guild known as the Graces, Gamora claimed to have undergone a "cosmic makeover" and displayed several new abilities, such as running at superhuman speeds and generating energy as a form of destructive blast. She also began carrying a powerful and indestructible blade known as Godslayer, which she kept stored away in a subspatial pocket that she could access at will. Although she has used the Godslayer since then, she has not, however, demonstrated her other powers since the Annihilation Wave first hit.

STARHAWK

STARHAWK

Real Names: Stakar and Aleta Ogord
First Appearances: Defenders (Vol. 1) #28, October 1975 (Stakar); Defenders (Vol. 1) #29, November 1975 (Aleta)

Powers: Stakar is the son of the Avenger Quasar and the artificial woman known as Her, born in the future of the parallel reality designated Earth-691. He was left in the care of Arcturian Mutants, a poverty-stricken caste of malformed humanoids on the planet Arcturus. When another group of Arcturians, the Reavers, slaughtered the Mutants, one Reaver named Ogord found the human-looking baby Stakar, and adopted him as his own son, raising Stakar alongside his biological daughter, Aleta. Upon reaching early adulthood, Stakar and Aleta journeyed into a ruined city to the Temple of the Hawk-God, where they found a giant "statue" of the Hawk-God. In a fit of anger, Aleta threw a brainwave helmet to the ground, and when it exploded it consumed her physical body and her living essence was transferred into the "statue". It turned out that the statue was the actual the Hawk-God, a rogue cosmic entity of vast power who was sentenced to stand there immobile on Arcturus for all eternity by the Living Tribunal and the Cosmic Congress. Aleta had accidentally reanimated him, and he went on a rampage through Arcturus. Stakar tried to use the brainwave helmet to communicate with Aleta's consciousness inside the Hawk-God, but only managed to get his essence absorbed in as well. The Hawk-God was eventually calmed and restored his rescuers to a new form of life as gratitude, making them a composite energy being.

As Starhawk, Stakar and Aleta are a photonic entity that perfectly mimics the actions and appearance of a human being. They are sustained by a self-regenerating energy matrix, and so do not require food, water, air, or sleep in order to survive. They can operate in the vacuum of space or any number of extreme environments. Also, Aleta (and presumably Stakar) can become intangible and pass through solid objects as pure energy. Only one of them was active at a single time, with whichever one was conscious capable of willing the change into their counterpart, "morphing" their photonic state to become the other one. The inactive partner would mentally reside in a "void", unaware of what was going on in reality while the other was in charge of their body. Aleta was the source of the pair's light energy, generating it within their shared body. She could then shape her light energy in a number of ways: Aleta could produce illumination as a soft glow or blinding flash, create solid photon battering rams, construct protective shields or domes to prevent people or objects from coming to harm, form ramps, bridges, cages, rings, etc. She could not fly on her own, but produced platforms or small disks under her feet which she then levitated and propelled through air or space for transportation. Stakar tapped into the light energy Aleta generated and manipulated it to various effects. He could reinforce the photonic energy of his own body, effectively increasing his density at will to augment his physical strength and durability to the point where he could battle Thor hand-to-hand.

Stakar could sense energy emissions across the electromagnetic spectrum, registering the presence of energy phenomena, powerful beings or technology, and mentally detecting a variety of transmissions signals and the like. He could produce light energy and alter it to produce blinding light, penetrating laser beams, concussive or explosive blasts, intense heat, and even expressing it as "living light" in order to heal the injuries of other people, restoring even critically wounded allies to full health. Stakar could fly, by generating his solar sails (a set of energy streamers extending out from his back). He could accelerate to the speed of light in under 10 seconds, and could even fly that fast in atmospheres since he was made of energy and not matter, so he wouldn't cause environmental problems by moving at supersonic speeds. Stakar was also the self-styled “One-Who-Knows”. At some point in his future, Stakar was destined to be killed and his consciousness projected back in time to possess his own infant body not long before the Reavers attacked the Mutants and Ogord adopted him. Thus, he would relive his own lifeline up until his consciousness was projected back in time again, starting the whole process over in a perpetual loop. From his perspective, our Stakar has lived his own life countless times already. In the past, he has tried altering the events of his life, but has found that it is virtually impossible for him to change his destiny. By this lifetime, Stakar has become almost depressingly resigned to his fate, living through an existence he has already completed countless times. This was until Mephisto manipulated events in this timeline, causing Stakar to shift into an alternate reality where his knowledge of all events became less undeniably true. Stakar and Aleta were destined to separate from another, but Mephisto arranged for it to happen earlier in the timeline than Stakar expected it to happen. During battle with the Stark, they were blasted with a high-energy weapon in the middle of their transformation, causing the two to split into two autonomous beings again. Stakar was troubled by this turn of events, as for once he no longer knew where he was going in life. Additionally, he could not survive being separated from Aleta: Without her constant supply of generating light to sustain him, Stakar was becoming more and more insubstantial as time went by. In a panic, he forcibly rejoined with Aleta, which triggered their Dark Metamorphosis. The two remained insubstantial energy until Stakar was able to exert his control over their combined form.

As Dark Starhawk, Stakar was now the primary mind and body in control of their existence, and they no longer regularly switched back and forth. He commanded dark-light energy, which he could manipulate in all the ways that both he and Aleta could previously manipulate light. Aleta was no longer oblivious in the "void", she could see, hear, and experience everything that was going on in the real world through Stakar's senses. With concentration, she could also cause him psychic pain and assume control over the body, speaking through his mouth and directing their actions. Eventually, Aleta reasserted her control and became Starhawk II as the sole mind in the body. She commanded light energy now, in all the ways Stakar and she had used it in the past. Stakar was separated from her, but eventually returned and reclaimed his half of their shared power. Aleta was reduced to an upgraded version of her original powers: She could generate hard-light constructs, fire battering laser pulses, fly under her own power at light-speeds, and possessed a type of proximity sense which alerted her to matter and energy in her environment as it moved through and disrupted ambient light patterns. She adopted the new practice of shaping hard light body armor on portions of her costume for additional protection.

DRAX THE DESTROYER

DRAX

Real Name: Arthur Sampson Douglas
First Appearance: Iron Man (Vol. 1) #55, February 1973

Powers: Drax the Destroyer was originally a human named Arthur Douglas, a real estate agent who was killed in a passing act by Thanos. The Mad Titan's father and grandfather, Mentor and a cosmic being named Kronos, arranged the creation of a superhumanly powerful being whose mission in life would be to hunt down and kill Thanos. Kronos captured Douglas' soul before it passed beyond the veil, and used it to inhabit a body he had forged out of inanimate material and charged with cosmic power. Mentor and Kronos also blocked all of Douglas' memories of his old life, replacing it with a monomaniacal hatred of Thanos. According to Maelstrom, Drax may have actually been a conceptual entity himself, an avatar for Kronos acting as an agent of life to limit the champion of Death.

As Drax, Arthur now possessed Class 40 strength, matchless endurance, considerable resistance to all forms of injury, the ability to survive in the vacuum of space and could fly fast enough to enter warp space and reach trans-light speeds under his own power. He could also discharge concussive blasts of cosmic energy from his hands, and possessed an innate homing ability that let him sense Thanos anywhere in the universe. Both Drax and Thanos died for a time, Drax at the hands of his own misguided daughter, Moondragon, who telepathically destroyed his mind. After Mistress Death resurrected Thanos, Kronos resurrected Drax in turn, giving him even more power to fight Thanos. Now possessing a Hulk-like physique and Class 100 strength, Drax was unfortunately brain damaged thanks to the manner of his death in his previous incarnation. This may account for the irregularities in his ability to sense Thanos -- Drax now seemed to have a psychometric sense for Thanos's essence, instead of a sense for Thanos himself. Drax proved capable of sensing the residual presence of Thanos on those who had been with him recently, and could determine if people were going to encounter Thanos in the near future. Upon joining the Infinity Watch, Drax was given the Power Gem for safekeeping, and he swallowed it. The quirks of his physiology prevented the gem from being digested and it increased his physical power to even greater degrees as he subconsciously tapped into a fraction of its power. Drax no longer possesses the gem however.

Later, Drax underwent a considerable retro-mutation. The catalyst appeared to be when he drank some spilled plasma from the singularity drive of a fallen starship. After that, the Blood Brothers savagely beat him, only to discover his intelligence actually increased for a time based on how much punishment he took. Drax was then killed by Paibok the Power-Skrull, but emerged from his own corpse like from a butterfly cocoon. Drax is now physically much weaker and can no longer project energy blasts or fly. On the flip side, his intelligence has returned to normal levels and he possesses superhuman speed, which he uses in conjunction with a pair of hunting knives he has adopted. Curiously, he has also displayed considerable knowledge of advanced technology and alien fighting styles, along with a tactical brilliance that wasn't evident in any of his prior incarnations. He has also demonstrated some mild psychic abilities from time to time, such as sensing thoughts through "proximal psychic bleedthrough" or initiating deeper mindmelds with other people. Many of these instances came very early in his resurrection, though, and may have only been a temporary symptom of his "readjustment".

CHARLIE-27

CHARLIE-27

Real Name: Charlie-27
First Appearance: Marvel Super-Heroes (Vol. 1) #18, January 1969

Powers: Captain Charlie-27 hails from the cloud-cities of Jupiter, one of a race of Jovians genetically-engineered to possess 11 times the mass of an average human to properly survive the increased gravity inside the planet's atmosphere.

His Jovian physique gives him larger, denser, more durable bones than an average human's, granting him human-like strength in Jupiter's gravity and superhuman Class 10 strength in lower environments like Earth. He has increased endurance, resistance to physical injury, and great reflexes for his size. He can bend steel bard or girders, smash through steel plating or concrete, dig his fingers into most metals or smash metallic constructs with his bare hands. His stamina is quadruple that of an average human due to expanded cardiovascular and respiratory capacities and a highly efficient metabolism. His durability is also enhanced beyond human norms, notably increased resistance to illness, electricity, and high levels of radiation, and his skin is tough enough to withstand .45 caliber bullets. Faster and more agile his size suggests, Charlie-27 maintains a strict training regimen of intensive regular exercise and is an excellent swimmer and weightlifter.

Later, being healed by the trans-molecular reconstitutor optimized his physiology, magnifying his strength by 34%. He makes use of various weapons, including pellet grenades, pulse pistol, Yondu's ceremonial yaka dagger, and various heavy artillery cannons usually designated for being mounted on tanks.

MAJOR VICTORY

MAJOR VICTORY

Real Name: Vance Astro (legally changed from Vance Astrovik)
First Appearance: Marvel Super-Heroes (Vol. 1) #18, January 1969

Powers: Vance Astro is the alternate timeline self (from Earth-691) of Vance Astrovik (Marvel Boy, Justice) of Earth-616. Believing faster-than-light travel technology to be impossible, America in the late 20th century devised a two thousand year round-trip mission whereby a single astronaut would be specially-preserved and transported to the Beta Centauri system. Astro's blood was replaced by a special preservative fluid while his skin was totally encased in an air-tight containment suit. He spent the majority of the next thousand years in suspended animation on board his ship, only awakened by the ship every few decades to check his navigation systems. Vance eventually arrived on Centauri IV only to discover to his dismay that a colony of Earth humans were already there to greet him. Harkovian physics had replaced Einstein's rules of the universe some 200 years after he left, and not only had Earth heavily colonized its own solar system with genetically-engineered branches of humanity, they had also established the first extra-solar colony on Centauri more than a century previously.

Becoming active in the 31st century with the Guardians of the Galaxy, Vance Astro lived under the constant threat that any tear of his containment suit would oxygenate his skin, causing it to age 1,000 years within seconds. Early in his career, he supplemented the suit with an outer costume of Kevlar, and Martinex later redesigned his costume out of a flexible Adamantium derivative which was virtually incapable of being pierced. In addition, Vance's mind had developed over his long journey, and he began manifesting his latent psychokinetic powers. As such, he found himself capable only of administering pressure to objects, and not levitating or manipulating them like a true telekinetic. Instead, he projected concussive force from his forehead either as a uni-directional beam or a full-circle radial discharge. He eventually recovered Captain America's shield and began using it as his personal weapon, including adding a psychokinetic blast to his throws so that the shield flew with tremendous force. After a bullet made of Dargonite penetrated his Adamantium casing, Vance was saved by the intervention of Krugarr, the future Sorcerer Supreme, and Hollywood, the future incarnation of Wonder Man. Hollywood gave Vance a transfusion of his ionically-enriched blood, while Krugarr cast an enchantment which enabled him to remove his containment suit and survive with his skin exposed to open air.

Adopting the new alias of Major Victory, Astro adopted a new patriotic costume to go with his shield. However, he soon gave up the shield so that it could be used as a rallying symbol for a new Earth government. Around this time, the Beyonder encountered Vance and, seemingly on a whim, altered his costume to possess a black undergarment. The meaning of this became clear when Mephisto undid Krugarr's enchantment months later, forcing Vance's body to age rapidly. The undergarment came to life, quickly covering Major Victory's entire body and duplicating the properties of his containment suit to keep him alive. Questions arose as to whether this "Black suit from the Beyonder" was another symbiote similar to Venom, and to the nature of "The Power of That Which Lies Within Yet Beyond", a mysterious force which was increasing Vance's psychokinetic powers. It was eventually determined that the suit was just an unliving sympathetic exo-armor, and the elaborately named Within Yet Beyond was merely the effects of his ionically-enhanced blood acting upon his mental powers. The sheer force of his psychokinetic blasts was dramatically amplified, and he became capable of more varied telekinetic feats. He could cast a protective bubble or shields, create hard energy columns to raise him off the ground or floating disks to ferry him and others around, move objects about in a controlled manner, encase targets in psychokinetic bonds or stasis fields, etc.

RONAN THE ACCUSER

RONAN THE ACCUSER

Real Name: Ronan
First Appearance: Fantastic Four (Vol. 1) #65, August 1967

Powers: Ronan the Accuser is typically the most powerful and most senior of all the Kree Accusers, an elite corps of Kree government officials whose responsibility is to prosecute, judge, sentence, and execute all Kree below the aristocratic class accused of crimes.

Ronan has undergone minor genetic engineering to make him larger and more fomidable than the average Kree, granting him Class 10 strength as well as enhanced endurance and resistance to physical injury. His body armor further boosts his strength to Class 60-70 range, provides additional resistance to damage, protection from hazardous atmospheres and the vacuum of space, and can project an aura of negativism which makes him invisible to the naked eye. In addition, it enables him to levitate and walk on air, and his gloves can generate a powerful electrical current or intense cold strong enough to send a person into temporary suspended animation.

Like all Accusers, he carries a cosmi-rod capable of manipulating cosmic energy for various purposes, only his is the most powerful of all the rods, dubbed the Universal Weapon. It can directly apply cosmic force as blasts from the nozzle on the end of the rod, discharging blinding light, stun blasts to render beings unconscious, concussive bolts capable of toppling buildings, and even totally disintegrating solid matter in instants. The Universal Weapon can manipulate gravity, causing projectiles to suddenly shoot off course or weighing down opponents with ever-increasing levels of gravitational force. It can also cast time-motion displacement fields which can contain and immobilize targets in a localized temporal distortion while moving them about in an energy field tethered to the rod itself. The rod can rearrange molecular structures according to the will of the user, altering someone's clothing from one set of garments to another or causing a metallic deck to reshape itself into a giant cage to envelop and contain a target. Ronan can use his rod to sense the presence and flow of energies in his general area, and drain energy away from existing sources, forcing mechanical systems to shut down, disabling Captain Mar-Vell's belt jets, or snuffing the Human Torch's flame by absorbing the heat away from his body. It can also be used for protective measures, casting an energy shield outwards to blunt force or energy before it reaches Ronan, or create a more powerful cone of invincibility, a solid and opaque energy construct materialized as a makeshift "courtroom" for confronting the Fantastic Four without interruption. The Universal Weapon also demonstrated teleportational powers, enabling it to transport Ronan and allies from one location to another, or summon the FF into his presence from various different places around Manhattan.
