MISTER FEAR

MISTER FEAR

Real Name: Alan Fagan
First Appearance: Marvel Team-Up (Vol. 1) #92, April 1980

History: A baseline human with no superhuman powers, Alan Fagan is the nephew of Larry Cranston, the original Mister Fear. Upon his uncle's death, Alan was bequeathed his Mister Fear paraphernalia and became a professional criminal.

Mr. Fear's gun shoots pellets containing "fear gas," a compound based on flight scent pheromones; inhalation of the gas induces a gradual state of anxiety, fear and eventual outright panic, theoretically rendering victims incapable of resisting Fear's will.

The pellets rupture on contact, their effect lasting anywhere from five to fifteen minutes depending on each victim's physical constitution, and the gas can also be absorbed through the skin at a slower rate; after effects of edginess and mild nausea can persist for days following exposure. Fear once used a hypodermic ring to inject concentrated dosages of his fear compound and occasionally carries other weapons, such as an enerqy-discharge qun; he briefly wore a protective armored exoskeleton. He has access to pheromone variations, including one which renders him exceptionally appealing to women. Although Fear's skin is saturated with fear pheromones as a result of careless research and use, he seems to derive no superhuman powers from this condition.

ECHO

ECHO

Real Name: Maya Lopez
First Appearance: Daredevil (Vol. 2) #9, May 1999 (As Echo); New Avengers (Vol. 1) #11, September 2005 (As Ronin)

Powers: Echo possesses photographic reflexes: Anything she sees someone physically do, she can then duplicate. This refers only to physical actions, not superhuman powers, and is limited by her own body's fitness and ability to perform. Nonetheless, she has duplicated culinary skills by watching cooking shows, recreated observable musical talent like the piano, can fly or drive any vehicle like an expert after watching someone else do it, and has assimilated various fighting styles by watching martial artists in person or on video. This includes general disciplines such as kung fu or judo, and also the specific styles of individuals like Daredevil, Iron Fist, and Bullseye. After observing someone in action, she is generally able to anticipate and counter their every move, and can switch instantly between different fighting styles to keep her opponents off balance.

Maya has used various weapons in the past, such as a Vibranium-infused bo staff, nunchaku, throwing stars, tonfas, and a katana blade. Because she is deaf, Echo is virtually helpless in darkness, and so her Ronin outfit was apparently equipped with night vision lenses.

As a host for the Phoenix Force, Echo can draw power from the cosmic firebird. She can fly with the assistance of the Phoenix aura, using it as a defensive field, for propulsion, and to telekinetically strike out at her environment. Phoenix fire can burn like real flame, melting metals or igniting flammable materials. Echo uses the Phoenix Force to augment her strength by adding power to her blows. She can also conjure tangible constructs of Phoenix fire to express her learned skills, such as a piano or her tonfas. Maya sometimes manifests the Phoenix aura as a flock of normal sized firebirds instead of a single giant bird aura. She can direct these familiars at a distance or infuse Phoenix energy into other animals and lifeforms, using them as conduits and carriers for her power.

VIRBRANIUM

VIBRANIUM

First Appearance: Daredevil (Vol. 1) #13, February 1966 (Anti-Metal/Antarctic Vibranium); Fantastic Four (Vol. 1) #53, August 1966 (Wakandan Vibranium)

History/Description: Vibranium is a rare, naturally occurring metallic substance, theorized to be of extraterrestrial origin, which exists in two forms.

The first, Wakandan Vibranium, is found almost exclusively in the tiny African nation of Wakanda. Wakandan Vibranium, though as yet unknown means, absorbs vibratory energy in its vicinity, such as sound waves, with in itself. The apparent observable vibratory rate of the molecules of the Vibranium itself does not increase when the Vibranium absorbs mechanical energy. The outside vibratory energy is stored within the bonds between the molecules making up the Vibranium. As a result, a chunk of Vibranium which has absorbed a considerable amount of vibratory energy would be exceedingly hard to demolish. If enough force were applied to this chunk to smash it, the Vibranium would explode, releasing much of the absorbed energy. There are limits to the capacity of Vibranium to absorb vibratory energy, although the exact extent of these limits has not yet been determined. For example, in recent years, the oil conglomerate Roxxon discovered that a certain small island in the South Atlantic had a foundation composed of Wakandan Vibranium. Roxxon found it necessary to destroy the island and blew it up with bombs. Unable to absorb the force of the explosion, the Vibranium was destroyed, but it did succeed in entirely absorbing the sound made by the explosion.

It was in the mid 1980s that the world learned of the existence Wakandan Vibranium, although its existence has been rumored for decades. In the early 1940s, a small amount of Wakandan Vibranium came into the possession of the young, brilliant scientist Dr. Myron MacLain. Through an accident, which cannot be duplicated, MacLain created an alloy of Wakandan Vibranium and a form of Adamantium steel. The sole specimen of this alloy now serves as Captain America's shield.

Sometime later the renegade scientist Ulysses Klaw, who had believed the rumors of Vibranium were true, found the great "sacred mound" of Vibranium in Wakanda. The chieftans, also known as kings, of the Wakandans had guarded the mound for generations as a sacred trust. Klaw failed in his attempt to steal Vibranium from the mound but killed the chieftan T'Chaka. T'Chaka's son, T'Challa, became the new king of the Wakandans and also adopted the sacred guise of the Black Panther. T'Challa strove to end Wakanda's isolation from the rest of the world. He made the existence of Vibranium known to the outside world and sold small quantities of it to foreigners whom he believed would not turn it to harmful ends. T'Challa used the profits to enrich and modernize his nation.

The other form, Antarctic Vibranium, has thus far been found in nature only in the isolated region of Antarctica known as the Savage Land. Antarctic Vibranium is also known as "Anti-Metal" due to its effects. Whereas Wakandan Vibranium absorbs vibratory energy into its molecular bond, Antarctic Vibranium, through a means that is not yet understood, emanates vibrations, which cause the atomic molecular bonds in nearby metals of other kinds to weaken. The result is to cause nearby solid metals to liquefy. If huge quantities of Antarctic Vibranium were gathered together, at some unknown point the accumulated mass would be so great that the vibrations given off by the entire mass would increase logarithmically as more Vibranium was added. Theoretically, if the enormous mound of Wakandan Vibranium were composed of Antarctic Vibranium instead, the resulting vibrations would therefore liquefy metals throughout Africa, and possibly beyond. A fraction of the sacred mound of Wakandan Vibranium was apparently converted to Antarctic Vibranium by particle bombardment.

Vibranium is not an element, despite various references to it as such. The properties of Vibranium do not qualify it to fill any gaps in the Periodic Table of Elements. Moreover, Vibranium could not be an element with a higher atomic weight than any known elements, since it is not radioactive as the elements with the highest atomic weights are.

ELEKTRA

ELEKTRA

Real Name: Elektra Natchios
First Appearance: Daredevil (Vol. 1) #168, January 1981

Powers: Typically, Elektra Natchios is a baseline human with no superhuman abilities. She has occasionally demonstrated low-level telekinesis, though it's possible that this may be just an illusion which victims of her mesmerism are led to see. She can communicate telepathically with individuals possessing similar levels of mental discipline, such as the Chaste.

She possesses numerous abilities that border on superhuman. She can control her own autonomic nervous system to a degree, controlling bleeding, fighting infection, etc. She is able to keep to the shadows and move with such speed that she can remain unseen even in broad daylight. She also has demonstrated on occasion the ability to mesmerize others and make them see illusions and other phenomena.

Elektra is a consummate practitioner of the martial arts. She is a mistress of the skills of the ancient ninja of Japan, and an Olympic-level athlete and gymnast. She possesses peak human levels of strength, speed, agility, reflexes, stamina, etc. She is an expert in Ninjtsu and various other martial arts, as well as gymnastics. Elektra wields a pair of three-pronged daggers called sais, though she also is proficient with, and makes use of, a multitude of martial-arts weaponry such as long swords, shruikens (thowing stars), and she is also experienced in the usage of firearms, explosives, and even anti-tank or aircraft artillery.

COYOTE

COYOTE

Real Name: Unknown
First Appearance: Daredevil (Vol. 3) #19, December 2012

Powers: Coyote was a human trafficker forcibly put through the same experiment as the Spot, transformed in the process. He seemingly gained the same powers as the Spot, but also relied upon mechanical systems to enhance his powers, and draw power from the Spot himself who was hooked up to the equipment.

With these enhancements, Coyote demonstrated highly skilled teleportation abilities. He could kill with a thought by spontaneously extracting all the blood from a human body. He had enough precision to teleport Daredevil's billy club out from its holster, then return it without the hero noticing either time, even with his enhanced senses.

DEVOURER

DEVOURER

Real Name: Thomas Webster
First Appearance: Daredevil Annual (Vol. 1) #9, July 1993

Powers: The Devourer is a harbinger of the Lords of Death, ancient Mayan deities. When human blood connected with the vision serpent totem, security guard Tommy Webster was sacrificed to the Lords and transformed as the host for the Devourer spirit. He gained considerable mass and an animal-like appearance, along with superhuman strength, agility, endurance, leaping ability, and resilience. His fingers ended in razor sharp claws, and he could use these claws for scaling walls. The Devourer carried a ceremonial blade for disemboweling his prey, and could also transformed back into his human host's appearance, for a disguise.

TYPHOID MARY

TYPHOID MARY

Real Name: Mary Alice Walker
First Appearance: Daredevil (Vol. 1) #254, May 1988

Powers: Typhoid Mary is a mutant possessing telepathic, telekinetic, and pyrokinetic powers. She can subliminally coerce people into doing simple tasks (sleep, drop weapons, etc.) and is especially skilled at controlling men. She combines sexual and psionic manipulations to make them fall in love with her and willing to agree with or do whatever she says.

Mary Walker suffers from a bizarre form of dissociative identity disorder and her differing personalities often struggle for dominance over one another. "Mary" is a caring, but weak-willed and fragile woman with epilepsy; "Typhoid" is a homicidal seductress with a continual fever; "Bloody Mary" is a misandrist crusading feminist, and the little seen "Walker" is a strong, integrated personality capable of holding the others at bay when active. Bloody Mary is the strongest telekinetic of the personalities while Typhoid uses the pyrokinesis and manipulation powers most often. Each personality has a unique metabolic signature, altering Mary's heartbeat rate, pulse, respiration, body temperature, alpha waves, electroencephalogram patterns, biorhythms, and even her bodily scent in such a way that even Daredevil's superhuman senses couldn't discern that Mary and Typhoid were the same woman.

Typhoid Mary is a highly formidable hand-to-hand combatant, possessing great agility and is highly skilled in wielding and hurling bladed weapons. She typically carries machetes and knives as weapons.

LADY DEATHSTRIKE

LADY DEATHSTRIKE

Real Name: Yuriko Oyama
First Appearance: Daredevil (Vol. 1) #197, August 1983 (as Yuriko Oyama); Alpha Flight (Vol. 1) #33, April 1986 (As Lady Deathstrike)

Powers: Yuriko Oyama became Lady Deathstrike after undergoing cybernetic enhancement via Spiral's Body Shoppe. Her first transformation recreated her father's Adamantium bonding process, adding both pure Adamantium and advanced cybernetic circuitry and components to her original body. Over time, Yuriko upgraded herself so extensively that her original body is now completely gone. In recent years, she inhabited purely mechanical bodies mixed with artificially grown flesh and hair over this cybernetic chassis. She could abandon damaged bodies by transmitting her consciousness electronically over a hardline or via satellite transmission relays, uploading herself into a new body or safe storage facility. Presently, Yuriko exists as a downloadable nanotech delivery package. She forged an alliance with Ana Cortes of Bogata, who provided her body as a canvas for Yuriko's nanotech. Ana was imprinted with Yuriko's mind and nanites -- the two of them now co-occupy Ana's body, which is being rewritten on a subatomic level by Yuriko's nanites to recreate her cybernetic structure and powers.

Her enhancements grant her superhuman strength, foot speed, agility, endurance, reaction time, telescopic vision, hearing, and resistance to physical injury. Her skeleton is laced with Adamantium metal to make it virtually indestructible, and her cybernetics contain nanite re-generators which can repair certain levels of damage without outside repairs. She has foot long Adamantium talons extending from each of her fingernails, and she can extend both the talons and her arms to more than twice their original lengths. She has also demonstrated the ability to produce electrical charges through her mechanical components, and can extend interface jacks which allow her to mentally hack into computer systems and then either operate or reprogram them with her thoughts.

Lady Deathstrike is a remarkably skilled martial artist, considered an expert in the art kenjutsu and other samurai warrior skills. She is fluent in both English and Japanese and is an accomplished pilot of various aircraft and seacraft.

BULLSEYE

BULLSEYE

Real Name: Lester (last name unrevealed)
First Appearance: Daredevil (Vol. 1) #131, March 1976

Powers: Bullseye is a baseline human who possesses uncanny accuracy, allowing him to strike anything he aims at. Though not categorized as a superhuman ability, it most certainly is an intuitive ability that exceeds all normal precedent. Bullseye's accuracy extends to throwing weapons, archery, and firearms. He can perform not only direct shots, but also possesses an innate understanding of geometry for fantastic ricochets and bank shots. He can also aim at targets without sight, relying upon hearing or memory to pinpoint his victims. Bullseye has become so experienced at killing that he often abandons traditional weaponry in favor of everyday items. He can kill just as easily with a pen, paperclip, toothpick, playing cards, etc. Bullseye's accuracy doesn't depend on hand-eye coordination, he can even spit a false tooth with lethal precision. Bullseye is sufficiently accurate to shoot down the barrel of a gun or through a sniper's eyepiece. He can throw a toothpick through the pinhole of a grenade at over 100 yards to prevent it from firing.

Bullseye was restored to health by Lord Darkwind after being paralyzed in battle with Daredevil. In addition to walking again, his spine and other bones were reinforced with strips of Adamantium. This gives Bullseye increased durability and resistance to impact, however his entire skeleton was apparently not bonded with Adamantium, since he has occasionally suffered broken bones since the process. His obsession with Daredevil (combined with a brain tumor) once developed to the point where he had a psychic awareness of Murdock, able to sense him from a distance and even have a clairvoyant perception his enemy's surroundings. This ability quickly faded over time. Bullseye's compulsive tendencies have focused his mind to his advantage other times in the past as well. He once memorized Elektra's entire life through dossiers and files compiled on her to feed his obsession, everything from her measurements to her allergies, first kiss, elementary school history, and so on. When his body was completely paralyzed and trapped in an iron lung, Bullseye's mind expanded to possess almost superhuman intelligence. He became a master planner, feeding his mind vast amounts of data and extrapolating it to make incredibly accurate deductions and predictions of his opponent's behavior.

For weaponry, Bullseye originally used a pistol able to fire interchangeable cartridges and removable throwing blades from his belt before he stopped using more exotic weapons and switched to conventional items. As Hawkeye, he used traditional arrows more than trick arrows, although he occasionally employed explosive, poisoned, flare, or other unique shafts.

THE PUNISHER

THE PUNISHER

Real Name: Frank Castle (born Francis Castiglione)
First Appearance: The Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 1) #129, February 1974

Powers: The Punisher possesses no superhuman powers. He possesses the normal human strength of a man of his age, height, and build who engages in intensive regular exercise. The Punisher is a thoroughly seasoned combat veteran of exceptional skills. A former U.S. Marine Captain with a distinguished combat record, who has undergone SEAL (Sea Air Land) training, UDT (Underwater Demolition Team) training, and LRPA (Long Range Patrol) training, Frank Castle is well-versed in the arts of warfare and hand-to-hand combat.

From this multi-disciplinary military training, the Punisher is proficient in not only basic infantry skills, but in special operations, which includes the use and maintenance of specialized firearms and explosive ordnance. He is highly trained in infiltration into heavily-guarded enemy territories and structures for the purpose of assassination, captures, and military intelligence. Also, he is trained in various forms of camouflage and stealth. From his airborne training, the Punisher is able to pack and maintain his own parachute rigs, as well as professionally control his landings, in daylight and at night. From his Navy UDT training, the Punisher is well-skilled in extended underwater operations, including demolitions. He is skilled with a great many types of explosives, ranging from simple dynamite to plastique to improvised explosives. His hand-to-hand combat skills are more then sufficient to allow him to incapacitate and kill men much stronger than he is, as well as to deal with groups of armed and unarmed enemies, killing them all without weapons if he deems it necessary. He is also extremely deadly in knife training, preferring the knife he learned to fight with in the USMC: The ka-bar. Additionally, he is a preternaturally-precise marksman. He is thoroughly trained and experienced in unconventional ("guerilla") warfare. He is an armorer, a gunsmith, and an expert in field medicine.

The Punisher constantly employs an arsenal of portable weaponry. His most commonly used personal weapons are the Vietnam era M16 automatic rifle in .223 caliber; a Sterling Mark 69mm, 34-round clip fed, semiautomatic rifle converted to automatic fire; a 14-round, 9mm Browning Llama automatic pistol; a Government issue .45 caliber automatic frame re-chambered for 9mm ammunition with a replaceable barrel to convert it to .223 caliber ammunition; and a 4-shot derringer in .223 caliber (thus, he needs to carry only two types of ammunition).

SILVER SAMURAI

SILVER SAMURAI

Real Name: Kenuichio Harada
First Appearance: Daredevil (Vol. 1) #111, June 1974

Powers: The Silver Samurai possesses the mutant power to generate tachyon energy rays from within his body. He then channels these rays through solid matter to create a disintegration field effect. He uses his katana sword as a focus for his power, enabling it to slice through nearly any form of matter, except for Adamantium.

He wears a suit of lightweight steel alloy plate body armor, designed to resemble ancient samurai garb and with enough articulation so as to not impede his movements. He wields a traditional samurai long sword (katana) as well as a companion sword (wakizashi), and has previously wielded both Muramasa's Black Blade and Clan Yashida's Honor Sword. On occasion, he'd also use shruiken and other traditional samurai weaponry. He previously employed a teleportation ring given to him by the Viper that activated when twisted.

The Silver Samurai is a college graduate and a master of kenjutsu (Japanese swordsmanship), an expert in Bushido (the history and customs of the samurai class), and is also a highly skilled martial arts master.

MAN-BULL

MAN-BULL

Real Name: William Taurens
First Appearance: Daredevil (Vol. 1) #78, July 1971

Powers: Man-Bull possesses various superhuman attributes as a result of being injected with a mutagenic serum based on bull enzymes. Resembling a hybrid of human and bull, he possesses superhuman levels of strength, endurance and durability. The unstable nature of his mutation causes his body to change over time, reverting to completely normal or becoming more bull-like in appearance. He typically has horns extending from his head, coarse body hair, and distorted facial features. At times he also possesses a bull's snout, tail, and hooves. His strength varies with the transformation as well.

LEAP-FROG

LEAP-FROG

Real Name: Vincent Patilio
First Appearance: Daredevil (Vol. 1) #25, February 1967

Powers: Vincent Patilio invented the Leap-Frog costume using hydraulically-enhanced spring coils in his boots, allowing him to leap great heights and distances in a single bound, and absorb the impact upon landing. It was supplied power by an electronic power pack on his back, and certain versions contained an exoskeleton to boost his strength (minimally) and gyroscopes for balance, navigation and accuracy in leaps.

KINGPIN

KINGPIN

Real Name: Wilson Fisk
First Appearance: The Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 1) #50, July 1967

Powers: No superhuman powers. The Kingpin possesses the normal human strength of a man of his age, height, and build who engages in intensive regular exercise. The Kingpin is virtually as strong as it is possible for a man of his age, height, and weight to be without having superhuman powers. His great bulk does not consist of fat, but of muscles that have been developed to enormous size, as in a sumo wrestler. The Kingpin can lift (press) approximately 650 pounds. The Kingpin has extraordinary skill in hand-to-hand combat. His fighting skills and unusual agility for a man of his size compensate for the great difference between his human level of strength and Spider-Man's superhuman strength when the two engage in unarmed combat, (Spider-Man also has inhibitions about using his full strength against an opponent without superhuman powers for fear of killing him or her).

The Kingpin sometimes carries a walking stick which contains a concealed laser beam weapon that fires a short pulse of 300 watts, enough energy to vaporize a handgun. The walking stick can also be used to fire a concentrated spray of sleeping gas. The Kingpin's diamond stickpin also contains a small, highly compressed container of sleeping gas which is effective when fired directly into an opponent's face at close range. The Kingpin uses the stickpin gas as a last resort.

The Kingpin is a genius-level intellect with high skill in organizing and planning and self-educated to college-level in political science.

OWL

OWL

Real Name: Leland Owlsley
First Appearance: Daredevil (Vol. 1) #3, August 1964

Powers: Financier Leland Owlsley ingested an exotic chemical serum which gave him the power of directed motion hovering. He required a specially-designed cloak in order to actually glide and control his flight and later lost his ability to walk without metallic braces on his legs. At one point, the "flight serum" dramatically altered his physiology, giving him a hollow bone structure, air sacs in his lungs to make him lighter, reconstructed vertebrae letting him spin his head 270° degrees around, and a bizarre evolution to his eyes and ears, causing his eyes to become bulbous and rotate independently of each other. His senses were stronger but lacked clarity, and so he wore a special headgear to focus his enhanced sight and hearing. He gained long-range vision, nocturnal perception, and an expanded field of vision thanks to his individually perceptive eyes. He also has razor-sharp, steel-tool talons attached to his forearms.

DAREDEVIL

DAREDEVIL

Real Name: Matthew Michael Murdock
First Appearance: Daredevil (Vol. 1) #1, April 1964

Powers: Matt Murdock lost his sense of sight during his childhood when he saved a man from an oncoming truck. The vehicle then spilled a cargo containing radioactive waste which struck Matt's eyes and left him blind. His remaining senses were elevated to superhuman, and he also developed an additional sixth "radar" sense that helps compensate for his blindness.

Contrary to popular belief, the radiation that caused Matt Murdock's blindness is not responsible for his super-senses; they are the result of extensive training he underwent from his mentor, Stick. All human beings have a natural potential for heightened sensory perceptions, including radar, as well as various other quasi-mystical skills and abilities employed by Stick and his cadre, the Chaste. The radiation artificially and temporarily awakened Murdock's mind to this potential, making him more open to receiving Stick's tutelage than a normal person. Though the radiation faded in time, his enhanced senses and radar sense remained. It should be noted, then, that Daredevil's mind is also open to developing the other paranormal abilities that Stick and the Chaste share, such as telepathic communication and transferring spiritual energy. Regardless of what he's allegedly capable of, Daredevil's superhuman senses are the powers he actually uses.

His senses of hearing, taste, touch, and smell are incredibly sensitive and adaptable to stimuli, and he possesses the additional power of his "radar sense". Far greater than the sum of their parts, Daredevil's senses paint a vivid picture of his surroundings for him, making him hyper-aware of virtually everything in his environment. The radar sense allows Murdock to produce waves into his environment on all sides which reflect off of objects in his vicinity and return these "echoes" to his brain, where they are interpreted into a 360ยบ degree view of his surroundings. Thus, Daredevil can "see" in all directions at once, regardless of light, but the images he perceives are indistinct -- basic shapes and patterns, without detail. The biggest failing of his radar sense compared to actual sight is his inability to sense two-dimensional projections such as television, photographs, etc. His hyper-sensitive fingers compensate for that as he can read and understand printed type simply by running his hands across the imprint of the ink, and can "read" computer screens by the subtle temperature differences between lit and non-illuminated pixels. The radar sense is unique, different from actual radar, sonar, or echolocation and therefore unaffected by the flaws in any of the above. Rough comparisons in the past have claimed that Daredevil's hearing is better than Wolverine's, but his sense of smell is slightly less acute. He tends to recognize people by a combination of their individual scents and heartbeats, though even without his hearing, scent, and radar he could feel their presence simply by their body heat and the changes in wind patterns around their body. Murdock has memorized hundreds of people's "impressions" this way. He is able to detect subtle shifts in their mood and emotional state by the pheromones they give off in different situations, and can detect irregularities in someone's heartbeat as a form of lie detection. Murdock can mentally adjust the sensitivity of his senses to some degree, thanks to extensive practice and Stick's instruction. By mentally expanding his sensory range while simultaneously tuning out background stimuli, Daredevil could scan an entire city for a particular person's scent and heartbeat. He also can broaden or narrow his senses' receptivity more generally, amplifying his overall awareness of a given "zone" but making him more susceptible to being surprised by stimuli from outside that "zone". By focusing all his senses on one person, for instance, he can detect even the slightest change in their bio-rhythms, if they're lying, about to attack, what they ate for dinner last night, but may not even be registering what they're saying or catch wind of another attack from a different angle. His hearing allows him to eavesdrop on conversations from blocks away or from the other side of standard "soundproof" glass. He can recognize when someone has been in a given room hours after they left by their residual scent.

Daredevil is hyper-sensitive to changes in temperature in his environment, so that even something as small as a match being lit within a few dozen feet of him is instantly felt. He can also feel the tickle of a laser-scope sighting on his skin, and tell whether he is in an area of shadow or light by minute changes in the ambient temperature. His acute feel for an object's weight and shape allows him to perform tricks like flipping a coin with just the right force to establish which side it will land on, and combines with his radar sense to make him incredibly accurate with any projectile. His sense of taste allows him to identify, catalogue, and recall the ingredients found in anything he eats or drinks. Just as Spider-Man's spider-sense allows him to dodge bullets by sensing their threat faster than a normal man would, so can Daredevil detect projectiles by the whistling through the air and displacement they make in their paths. Besides dodging projectiles, he can also perform feats like catching a hail of shuriken embedded on his billy club, or use it to bat away a bullet, knocking it onto a specific new course.

Daredevil carries an all-purpose billy club as his primary weapon. This tool is composed of two shafts which link together with a curled handle to pose as a blind man's cane when he is in civilian garb. As he changes for action, the club splits in two and the handle reverts into a straight rod. Both clubs can be used as fighting batons in combat. The half with the handle fires a wired grappling line which he uses for swinging through the city or wrapping up opponents. The other half is an expertly weighted steel-reinforced wooden shaft which can be thrown with enough force to break bones or shatter glass. Similar to Captain America's stupendous skill with his shield, Daredevil's radar sense and sense of touch enable him to throw the billy club, deliberately guiding it to strike and rebound off of multiple targets, hitting exact locations, and then return to his grasp on the final ricochet. Murdock can throw the club from a stationary position and have it return to him, or plot his advancement through a combat situation in his head to make the shaft arrive at a different location on the battlefield at the exact moment he lands there as well. Naturally, Daredevil needs not look at the billy club to catch it. Briefly, Murdock adopted a new costume made of bio-mimetic material that was flexible as cloth but redirected the force of any impact away from his body, making it strong enough to withstand small arms fire. During this period, his billy club was remodeled to also transform into a quarterstaff or nunchaku.

Matt Murdock holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree and is a practicing attorney-at-law. Possessing extensive encyclopedic knowledge of the American legal system, he is both admitted to and licensed to practice law by the New York State Bar Association. His fighting style is a unique synthesis of Judo, Ninjitsu, boxing, gymnastics and various other martial arts.
