BEACON
Real Name: Derrick Beacon
First Appearance: X-Men: Creators’ Choice (Vol. 1) #1, December 1993
Powers: Derrick Beacon is a mutant capable of generating a substance
described as “biocentric energy gel”,
an unusual semi-solid construct composed of a coherent form of unknown energy.
He can manifest this material directly from his body, shaping it into globules,
spheres, walls, or other simple forms through conscious effort.
The primary application of
Beacon's mutation is restraint. The energy gel can rapidly envelop opponents,
imprisoning them inside durable, resilient shells that greatly restrict
movement. Beacon has demonstrated the ability to generate both small
projectiles and considerably larger containment spheres capable of trapping
multiple individuals simultaneously. Although the material resembles a viscous
gel, it possesses remarkable structural integrity. The constructs withstand
substantial physical force before rupturing and appear capable of adhering
securely to surfaces or surrounding moving targets. The exact tensile strength
of the substance has never been quantified.
During the earliest
manifestation of his mutation, Derrick exhibited poor emotional control over
the power. Under stress, he unintentionally generated expanding masses of
energy gel that obstructed nearby individuals and even threatened to suffocate
victims by sealing their airways. This lack of precision diminished
considerably after he accepted his mutant identity. Beacon has demonstrated
conscious control over both the size and placement of his constructs, allowing
him to selectively imprison hostile targets while avoiding unnecessary harm to
others. His mutation has never been shown producing offensive concussive force
or corrosive effects; the energy gel functions almost exclusively as a
containment medium.
