TRIAGE

TRIAGE

Real Name: Christopher Muse
First Appearance: All-New X-Men (Vol. 1) #1, January 2013

Powers: Triage has the mutant ability to manipulate entropic forces. This allows him to heal himself and others on contact or through close proximity. His power operates through an infusion of life-force energy, similar to Dagger. This excess living energy is absorbed by the injured party and turned towards revitalizing them and accelerating the natural healing processes of the body. Not only can he heal almost any injury, Triage can even restore the recently deceased by rekindling the energy of life inside their bodies with his life-force infusions. If he catches someone a few moments after death, they will fully recover as if they hadn't died at all.

If someone has been dead for a period of time, however, Triage cannot fully reverse the cellular decay which sets in after the body fails. Instead, he creates something akin to a zombie, reanimating the deceased's physical frame and at least an echo of their mind. The life-force cannot be rekindled in bodies like this, so it seems more like Triage's energy infusion serves as an independent animating force for the "zombie". Having only done so once, it's unknown how long a person will last in this state, but presumably it would be only a temporary reanimation as the life-force infusion fades.

CHRISTIAN FROST

CHRISTIAN FROST

Real Name: Christian Frost
First Appearance: New X-Men (Vol. 1) #139, June 2003

Powers: Christian Frost is a mutant born with the power to create autonomous humanoid avatars of psionic energy. The avatars are extensions of his consciousness, able to see, hear, and speak, animated by a portion of his own mind. They are tangible or intangible as he chooses to make them, and can release psionic energy as an offensive discharge. The avatars can appear as glowing monochrome figures, or they can be refined enough to deceive even a telepath into thinking they are a genuine human being.

Christian suffers from major depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. In a healthy mental state, Christian directs his avatars consciously. But in his weaker moments, his self-doubt or negative feelings may guide his then. After killing his abusive father, Christian created an avatar of his father that acted just like Winston Frost, continuing the abusive behavior. To date, Christian has created avatars of himself and his father. The full range of possible constructs he can create is unknown.

LADY MASTERMIND & MASTERMIND II

LADY MASTERMIND & MASTERMIND II

Real Names: Regan Wyngarde (Lady Mastermind) & Martinique Jason (Mastermind II)
First Appearances: X-Treme X-Men (Vol. 1) #6, December 2001 (Regan); Gambit/Wolverine: Victims (Vol. 1) #1, September 1995 (Martinique)

Powers: Lady Mastermind (left) and Mastermind II (right) are both mutants and paternal half-sisters. They're the daughters of Jason Wyngarde, the mutant illusionist known as Mastermind. They both possess the same mutant power with the same area of skill: Telepathy with a specialization in illusion casting.

They're capable of probing the minds of other people and interacting with them on an astral plane. They can force various kinds of afflictions onto other minds, such as pain, unconsciousness, catatonia, nightmares, infantile regression, etc. Their ability to stimulate responses such as these combines with their illusions to make them seem more real. They can use their powers to appear invisible, disguise their physical appearance and those of other people, or the entire landscape. They can create interactive illusions which completely redefine how someone sees and interacts with their surroundings.

Their telepathy also enables them to condition people so that they don't question the sudden appearances or changes in circumstances caused by their power, even if they seem so fantastic that someone would logically recognize them as not real (especially someone aware of who they're facing). They can also sense other forms of illusion-casting and disperse them, either to their senses or to those of others. Their minds are also innately and highly resistant to hypnosis and other forms of outside suggestion.

GAMBIT

GAMBIT

Real Name: Remy Etienne LeBeau
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #266, August 1990

Powers: Gambit’s mutant power is interkinesis, converting potential energy into kinetic energy. His power requires physical contact with an object in order to trigger the effect, and cannot affect organic molecules. His interkinetic force stirs molecules into volatile and unstable activity, making anything charged by his power highly explosive on impact, destroying the charged object and creating a burst of concussive force that varies depending on the mass of the object. The chain reaction generated by his interkinetics rushes through the entire uniform surface of what he touches, not just the area he comes into direct contact with. The amount of time it takes for him to complete a charge depends on the mass and volume of the object: A playing card is fully charged in under a second, but a two foot thick steel vault door may take 10 seconds or longer. The interkinetic energy active in his body only causes unstable kinetic activity; it is not explosive itself. Typically, he uses playing cards as a focus for his power.

His internal energy does have a hyperkinetic boosting effect on his system, though, causing his agility and other physical attributes to be maintained at peak human levels at all times. It also has a disruptive effect on psionics, creating a masking aura that makes even the most powerful of telepaths have trouble reading his thoughts or even sensing his presence. Gambit has found it possible to amplify this distortion even further by holding a charged card near his head. Gambit has undergone surgery to remove a portion of his brain, thus limiting the full potential of his abilities. In recent years, he temporarily regained these enhanced power levels. This gave him the ability to affect organic molecules as well, and his range was expanded to line-of-sight, and an invisible field of interkinetic energy now extended out into his environment at all times. Before he could fully control his powers, this meant that Gambit might accidentally explode anything in his immediate area. Gambit also became capable of controlling the kinetic charge his power produces for a variety of effects. He could now tag objects with a dormant charge that he could mentally detect and track from a distance, create different intensities of heat by stirring up molecular activity, burning his opponents or simply causing them extreme discomfort as their molecules shuffled around. Remy could also mentally control the power of the explosion he created when charging an object, creating ones much weaker or stronger than he could previously, and even create a charge to completely incinerate matter without causing an explosion at all.

Gambit's physical abilities were also increased by the use of his powers: His strength, agility, reaction time, and especially his endurance were boosted to superhuman levels so long as he continued to employ his powers. Though this made him virtually tireless during a sustained conflict, Remy would begin feeling the exhaustion of all his activity once the situation cooled down and the interkinetic levels in his body dropped back to their standard levels from disuse. Ultimately, a conflict with his alternate self, the New Sun, burnt out these excess power levels.

Gambit also has a hypnotic charm that has been employed very sparingly over the years. It takes the form of a special quality in his voice, lulling people into complacency and making them far more susceptible to believing anything he has to tell them, and more inclined to think doing what he asks is a good idea. People are far more capable of resisting it if they are aware of his power and recognize what he's doing.

As the Horseman known as Death, Remy was mutagenically altered by Apocalypse. He now had jet black skin, long white hair, and eyes even more red than before. Mr. Sinister apparently reversed the transformation before the Messiah CompleX event, but in fact Remy now seems capable of shifting between Gambit and Death at will, much like Angel/Archangel did. While active, Death can transmute regular air into a toxic vapor. This enables him to summon clouds of lethal gas literally out of thin air, creating an anaerobic environment that leaves his foes breathless, and can kill them if they inhale and metabolize too much of it. Remy can even transform the air inside someone's lungs directly into his toxic vapor, killing them from the inside out. He can still charge objects, only Death fills them with a black, carbonizing energy. Death seems able to mentally direct his black-charged objects, guided them towards a specific target. Once they strike a person, the charged objects quickly spread black energy over the victim, consuming them completely and reducing them to ash. Death may also possess some level of enhanced strength and resistance to impact, and has increased psychic senses or protection which allows him to overcome certain kinds of mental influence.

Gambit is an excellent hand-to-hand combatant, utilizing street-fighting techniques and acrobatics. He is a master thief, skilled in breaking-and-entering, pick-pocketing, lock picking, and disabling security systems. He is also bilingual in English and French and is proficient in throwing small objects, including knives, playing cards, and throwing spikes, with great accuracy.

EXODUS

EXODUS

Real Name: Bennet du Paris
First Appearance: X-Factor (Vol. 1) #92, July 1993

Powers: Exodus’ mutant power is psionic in nature. He can siphon psionic energy from various sources such as another person’s life-force, heightened emotional state, and/or even from his own personal convictions. He then metabolizes that psionic energy to saturate his body with a wide range of enhanced superhuman powers. Exodus can also absorb psionic energy directly, such as when he fed off of Nate Grey's telepathic and telekinetic assaults during a battle.

Among the powers he has demonstrated thus far include superhuman strength, speed, endurance and reflexes, invulnerability, telepathy, telekinesis (omega-level), interplanetary teleportation, flight, the ability to generate force fields for protection or to obliterate anything that touches them, and both psionic and plasmic blasts of energy. Some sources also suggest his physical strength, endurance, and invulnerability also increase at times, but there could be a psionic base behind that as well.

His greatest display of power consisted of psionically amplifying Genoshan Mutates' hatred of humans, attempting to crush the island nation of Genosha with a massive telekinetic force field, immobilizing Quicksilver, the Scarlet Witch, Crystal Maximoff, and Jean Grey in another force field, mentally resisting Professor X's telepathic control, and protecting himself from physical attacks all while single-handedly battling both the X-Men and the Avengers.

PRISM

PRISM

Real Name: Robbie
First Appearance: X-Factor (Vol. 1) #10, November 1986

Powers: Prism’s mutant powers lie in the nature of his physical form. His body is entirely comprised of a fragile, refractive crystalline substance, largely transparent to the naked eye. He can use his multi-faceted crystalline body to absorb ambient photon particles he comes into contact with, refracting it as light energy so blindingly intense that it can incapacitate onlookers.

Prism can also process both passive and active energy signatures, but only in the electromagnetic spectrum. Prism cannot redirect kinetic or psychokinetic assaults, however, leaving him highly vulnerable to those kind of attacks. Prism can use his body to refract, amplify, and redirect all forms of energy in the electromagnetic spectrum.

SCRAMBLER

SCRAMBLER

Real Name: Kim Il Sung
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #211, November 1986

Powers: The Scrambler was born with the mutant ability to generate a disruptive energy that alters the functional operations of any system he comes into physical contact with, whether electrical, mechanical, physiological, or genetic (superhuman abilities).

He can disable machinery with a touch, causing it to malfunction or shut down. His power can also disperse energy fields directly upon contact. When touching living beings, he can disrupt any form of energy moving through their system. By scrambling the x-factor (or other sources of transnormal energy), he can negate superhuman powers or cause them to rage violently out of the victim's control. He can also scramble someone's life energy directly, making them lose consciousness, experience paralysis, or simply die.

The Scrambler can use his mutant power to selectively disrupt particular powers while leaving other powers unaffected.

RIPTIDE

RIPTIDE

Real Name: Janos Quested
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #211, November 1986

Powers: Riptide is a mutant with the ability to rotate his body around its lengthwise axis at superhuman speeds. He can spin as fast as 400 revolutions per minute, and still speak, hear, and see his environment while spinning. His spinning ability makes it possible for him to move along the ground in any direction at superhuman speeds. He can travel at up to 50 miles per hour in a straight line for 30 minutes without tiring appreciably. While spinning, Riptide is virtually untouchable and unable to be caught due to the tremendous angular momentum created by his rotation. His reflexes are fast enough that he can, while spinning, pick up objects, change his clothes, or punch an attacker. Riptide's sense of balance is no longer determined by his inner ears' semi-circular canals, but seems to be derived from his sight. All the fluids in his body appear to become as thick as heavy oil presumably as a result of his spinning abilities.

Riptide can also release calcium-based skin secretions in the shape of shurikens, throwing spikes and barbs which he can launch at high speeds.

SCALPHUNTER

SCALPHUNTER

Real Name: John Greycrow
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #211, November 1986

Powers: Scalphunter is a mutant whose abilities went unspecified for quite some time. Though self-stated to be a mutant early on, no specific power was attributed to him.

It was long-assumed that it may be enhanced senses, or perhaps an intuitive power like Forge or a technoforming power like Madison Jeffries, given the way he would quickly assemble various weapons and devices from the components on his jumpsuit. Evidence indicates that this power allows him to manipulate mechanical components, assembling them into a variety of different configurations by modifying their shape and construction. He wears a costume that gives him easy access to a wide variety of components to manipulate. He regularly assembles a wide variety of firearms and projectile weapons from his vest, and the accompanying ammunition.

In recent years, however, it has been shown that he possesses a retarded aging process and hyper-regenerative powers, letting him regenerate lost limbs and recover from multiple fatal gunshot wounds without lasting injury.

A former United States soldier, he is an uncanny marksman, a formidable hand-to-hand combatant, an experienced pilot, and an extraordinary master of conventional weaponry (including pistols, rifles, Uzis, shotguns, laser guns, miniature cannons, flamethrowers, knives, and grenade launchers).

MALICE

MALICE

Real Name: Alice MacAllister
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #210, October 1986

Powers: Malice is a mutant astral entity who only exists in a spirit form. She can possess the bodies of other people by entering them physically, using their negative emotions as a conduit and then feeding on them to cement her hold on the victim. Malice then uses them as a host, speaking through them and using their body as if it were her own.

Malice has complete access to her host's memories, experiences, powers, and knowledge. For a time, she was fused with the body and essence of Lorna Dane (Polaris) due to her energy matrix’s prolonged interaction with Dane’s magnetic powers. Though she could still possess others, Dane's body was her permanent host. When the Savage Land priestess Zaladane transferred Polaris’ powers into herself, this expunged Malice essence from Polaris. Over time, Malice has expanded her powers to include digital and cybernetic consciousnesses as well. Malice cannot control people who are already under mental sway. A handful of exceptionally strong willed persons can withstand her attempts at domination.

The choker that appears around her victim's neck is a physical representation of her presence, a tangible psychoplasmic projection. It can be ripped from her victim's throat to symbolize removing Malice's influence over their minds.

HARPOON

HARPOON

Real Name: Kodiak Noatak
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #211, November 1986

Powers: Harpoon possesses the mutant ability to imbue longitudinal shaped objects with different forms of energy (heat, electrical, plasma, etc.) for a variety of effects. His power operates creating a chain reaction in the molecules of the object he touches, causing it to convert into pure energy.

He usually uses his slayspears as his weapon of choice. By modulating the transitional process, Harpoon can make the energy create various kinds of effects. He can make these spears strike with concussive impact, or simply disintegrate whatever they touch. Against living foes, he can create energy shafts that merely cause pain, render others unconscious or paralyzed, or those that will kill a normal person instantly.

BLOCKBUSTER

BLOCKBUSTER

Real Name: Michael Baer
First Appearance: X-Factor (Vol. 1) #10, November 1986

Powers: Blockbuster’s mutation grants him great physical size and mass, giving him superhuman strength, endurance, and resistance to physical injury. He is capable of lifting up to 25 tons under optimal conditions.

ARCLIGHT

ARCLIGHT

Real Name: Philippa Sontag
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #211, November 1986

Powers: Arclight was born with the mutant power to amplify the amount of kinetic energy in her own body. She can focus this power through her hands as seismic waves that shatter objects or start earth tremors when she strikes an object. Her mutant ability also gives her superhuman strength (between Class 10-25), endurance, and resistance to physical injury. She is sufficiently strong enough to trade blows with the steel-skinned mutant known as Colossus.

EMPATH

EMPATH

Real Name: Manuel Alfonso Rodrigo de la Rocha
First Appearance: The New Mutants (Vol. 1) #16, June 1984

Powers: Empath was born with the mutant ability to telepathically sense and manipulate the emotional states, desires, and moods of other people around him. This sensitivity allows him to detect the presence of sentient beings in his vicinity, with the sensation being clearer the stronger and more intense their emotional state is at the time. He is able to force intense feelings onto other people such as love, hate, anger, fear, doubt, and so forth, and can attribute these feelings to a specific subject (his victim will love/hate/fear what he tells them to). By instilling men or women with feelings of adoration and devotion to him, he can force people to be willing to do whatever he asks of them. He can also render people virtually emotionless for a time, preventing them from experiencing any strong emotion to leave them calm and docile. Though his power can be used like a blunt instrument, Empath also learned subtlety: By introducing minor emotional sensations into the minds of others, he created a situation where the victim's own brain (working to make sense of itself) would interpret these feelings for them. This type of manipulation, while not immediately as strong, created emotions in people that felt more genuine and lasted longer without Empath's direct influence because the person convinced themselves of these feelings on their own.

VERTIGO

VERTIGO

Real Name: Unknown
First Appearance: Marvel Fanfare (Vol. 1) #1, March 1982

Powers: Using untapped radiations in the Savage Land, the mutant named Magneto built a machine and induced artificial mutations in several of the local indigenous people there into super-powered beings known as the Savage Land Mutates (Amphibius, Barbarus, Brainchild, Equilibrius, Gaza, Lupo, Piper, & Vertigo).

Vertigo's power produces waves of psionic energy which reach out into her surroundings to affect anyone she chooses. These waves upset the equilibrium of her opponents, making them nauseous, incapable of maintaining their balance, and often causing vomiting, disorientation, and loss of consciousness.

SHADOWCAT

SHADOWCAT

Real Name: Katherine Pryde
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #129, January 1980

Powers: Shadowcat’s mutant ability is to become intangible at will, but not through altering the amount of mass in her body, like Vision and other density-shifters do.

Instead, her mutant power operates by producing a form of magnetic repulsion from within her body that causes her molecules to move away from and around other molecules, avoiding actual physical contact with other forms of matter. This allows her to move through solid objects and become untouchable for any kind of physical attack. Shadowcat is still capable of breathing normally in her phased state, but has to hold her breath when moving through a solid mass. She doesn't simply fall through the ground beneath her because she is actually supporting herself on the air molecules underneath her feet. By making use of this fact, Shadowcat can walk on air, running across open space or ascending into the sky as if she were climbing a staircase. Her phasing power can be conducted through anything she touches, allowing her to perform simple tasks like carry a bag or weapon while intangible or phase an entire group of people as a human chain holding hands. Finally, Shadowcat's power has a disruptive effect on the operation of electronic devices, interrupting the proper flow of energy. This causes her to scramble anything of an electronic nature, including computers, by phasing through them.

At times, Shadowcat has used a wide variety of weapons, especially after receiving a lifetime's worth of martial arts knowledge imprinted on her brain by Ogun. She has carried throwing stars, a katana, even a set of nunchaku which detached from the shoulder-pieces on her costume. During the Revolution, Kitty carried two fragmented pieces of Wolverine's claws from when Cyber broke them off during Logan's period without Adamantium. One was fashioned to a hilt as a handheld dagger, and the other was strapped on the backside of her glove.

Katherine “Kitty” (now “Kate”) Pryde is a genius intellect highly talented in computer science and the design and use of computer hardware. She is also a skilled pilot of various aircraft and certain advanced interstellar vehicles. She has training in ballet and modern dance, speaks fluent Russian, Japanese, English, as well as the royal and standard languages of the alien Shi'ar. She has moderate expertise in Hebrew, Gaelic, and German. Lastly, she possesses proficiency in the martial arts of Japanese ninja and samurai, and is advanced with edged weapons and nunchaku.

SABRETOOTH

SABRETOOTH

Real Name: Victor Creed
First Appearance: Iron Fist (Vol. 1) #14, August 1977

Powers: Sabretooth’s mutant ability is accelerated cellular regeneration. This gives him superhuman strength (class 10), speed, endurance, reflexes, resistance to physical injury and a “fast-healing factor” that allows him to regenerate damaged or destroyed areas of his cellular structure at a rate far greater than that of an ordinary human being. His "fast healing" ability makes him virtually immune to poisons and to most drugs. Sabretooth also has a limited immunity to the fatigue poisons generated by bodily activity; hence he has greater endurance than any ordinary human being. Sabretooth has superhumanly acute senses of sight, hearing, smell, and taste comparable to those of certain animals. For example, he can track someone by smell just as a dog or a wolf can.

Sabretooth's superhuman senses comprise a separate superhuman power of his, but they are also due in part to his power of fast cellular regeneration. Sabretooth's night vision is preternaturally sensitive, containing twice the average human being's area of light-gathering retina, and extends into the infrared portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. His hearing is extraordinarily acute, able to detect light breathing in a cave at 200 feet. His sense of taste can detect 1 part of foreign matter in 10,000. His highly developed olfactory sense and memory allow him to detect and track a scent over eight hours old (possibly a concentration of 20 parts per million) that he had not been exposed to for up to several months previously. Dilute, common odors of perspiration, perfumes, cigarettes, candies, and food are beacons to his senses.

Sabretooth possesses razor sharp claws on each finger and pointed canine teeth reinforced. His teeth and claws, with no enhancements, are strong enough to rend through substances as durable as bone. Later, Sabretooth underwent the Adamantium bonding process to make his skeleton virtually unbreakable and giving him a second set of claws, retractable Adamantium ones which extended out as a sheath over his regular ones. This Adamantium skeleton was removed from his body by Apocalypse, but the new Weapon X Program re-engineered the bonding process in his body, in addition to upgrading his strength, speed, reaction time, and healing powers to an even further degree.

Sabretooth is a formidable hand-to-hand combatant, having been trained by the Foreigner, the C.I.A., and many others. He is also an extraordinary hunter and tracker.

MR. SINISTER

MR. SINISTER

Real Name: Nathaniel Essex
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #221, September 1987

Powers: Nathaniel Essex was a biologist in Victorian England when he received his abilities through bodily augmentations by the mutant known as Apocalypse. Apocalypse’s transformation of him served to activate his latent “x-factor” gene making him a mutant.

The transformation initially left him with pale white skin, an increased lifespan, and apparently some level of enhanced strength and resilience. He later incorporated the shape-shifting cells of a time-traveler mutant named Courier into his genetic structure, and manipulated them to their ultimate potential to give himself a number of special abilities. Mr. Sinister possesses superhuman strength, endurance, reflexes, and apparently an endless lifespan. He can manipulate the density and structure of his body to become nigh-invulnerable, or simply allow his regenerative powers to handle any damage. Sinister has had a baseball-sized hole blown straight through his skull and his upper body nearly severed from his lower, and in both cases he experienced no pain or discomfort. The damage regenerated itself completely within a matter of minutes. Despite false information he once gave to the X-Men, he is not vulnerable to Cyclops' optic blasts whatsoever. Though his shape-shifting powers are not as extensive as Apocalypse's, Sinister can still transform himself in moments into any human shape or form he can imagine.

He has also demonstrated the power to fire concussive energy blasts from his hands, and certain telekinetic and telepathic powers such as mind control, astral projection, the creation of mental blocks in his opponents' minds, and psionic backlashes to disable telepaths attempting to assault his mind. He also commands a tesseract laboratory, which employs folding space technology to access multiple locations around the world simultaneously. This technology also enables Sinister to teleport to and from virtually anywhere on the globe instantaneously.

A genius in genetics, Mr. Sinister is a brilliant biologist and a skilled surgeon. He is an expert in the science of cloning.

POLARIS

POLARIS

Real Name: Lorna Sally Dane
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #49, October 1968

Powers: Polaris' mutant ability gives her a significant electrolyte count in her bloodstream which increases her personal bio-magnetic field. Furthermore, that field resonates on the same wavelength as the Earth's own electromagnetic field, placing her in attune with the energy patterns of the entire planet. This allows her to manipulate magnetism and other electromagnetic forces for a variety of effects. Her ability is the same as that of her father (Magneto), though considerably less powerful than his.

She is able to levitate, attract and repel anything that possesses even trace levels of ferrous material in it, and can direct clusters of magnetized molecules to cling to nonferrous materials, giving her a medium to hold onto and manipulate them as well. She is capable of warping metal by shifting it into a liquid state and reforming in into new solid constructions. By forming intense magnetic force between trace metallic atoms in the atmosphere, she can form solid-seeming force fields that deflect all manner of assault, or concussive blasts of magnetic energy. Polaris is also capable of shifting her perceptions so that she sees her environment in terms of electromagnetic energy, enabling her to detect various sources of electronic power and recognize the different between humans and androids. Polaris can fly by means of magnetic repulsion and also absorb and metabolize electricity in order to boost her power levels.

Polaris has a latent secondary mutation that allows her to manifest superhuman physical power in the presence of danger. Her body absorbed negative emotional energy from her environment (the empathic residue created by thoughts like anger, fear, hatred, aggressive lust, etc), processing it in order to physically transform herself into a 7-foot tall powerhouse with superhuman strength and resistance to all manner of physical injury. A side effect of her power was an enhanced residual echo of that negative energy she absorbed, radiating from her position to enhance the negative emotional reactions of others around her, making them act more wild, violent, amoral, etc. At first, her physical enhancements would wear off when the threat passed, but after she took up residence on Muir Island where the Shadow King was already heightening the darker natures of the residents, her physical changes stabilized as permanent until being struck by Psylocke's psychic blade reversed her powers and restored her magnetic abilities.

Briefly, Polaris lost her powers on M-Day and was taken in by Apocalypse who remade her into his new Horseman of Pestilence. As Pestilence, Lorna's body was artificially re-engineered to recreate her mutant genes so as to possess magnetic powers once more, and she was additionally given the power to assimilate and maintain pathogens and viral agents into her metabolism, mutating them into more-advanced stages, and then releasing these bio-hazards into the atmosphere as a "meta-plague". The X-Men cleansed her of all these pathogens once they rescued her, but it is unclear whether or not she still has the capacity to act as Pestilence.

Lorna Dane holds a masters degree in geophysics and has expertise in the use of physics, chemistry, geology and advanced mathematics to study the Earth and its composition, including its atmosphere, internal make-up, oceans and electrical and other fields.
