SUNPYRE

SUNPYRE

Real Name: Leyu Yoshida
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #392, May 2001

Powers: Sunpyre is the younger sister of Sunfire (Shiro Yoshida) and is possessed of the same mutant ability to ionize matter, converting it into a fiery plasma state. Directing this power against solid or liquid matter causes her target to violently discorporate into traces of plasma, destroying it. She tends to focus the ionization effect through gases in the atmosphere, creating nuclear-charged "solar fire" similar to the plasma found at the heart of the sun itself. By manipulating her power, she can generate a flaming aura around her body, direct pyrotechnic blasts from her palms, radiate varying intensities of heat and light in all directions, and fly by producing thrust and thermal updrafts. She can fly at speeds from 100-200 miles per hour.

At maximum level, she can generate flames as hot as 1,000,000° degrees Fahrenheit before temporarily exhausting her power. Her mutation also comes with various aspects that provide her with protection: A psionic force field automatically activates when she uses her powers, protecting her from the radiation she emits, from outside heat sources, and a certain degree of physical injury as well. Sunpyre is also capable of absorbing outside sources of energy to increase the potency of her solar fire even further: She can process sunlight and various forms of electromagnetic energy into her system. Her infrared vision enables her to perceive her surroundings in terms of heat patterns and radiant energy.

FLEX & RADIUS

FLEX & RADIUS

Real Names: Adrian Corbo (Flex); Jared Corbo (Radius)
First Appearance: Alpha Flight: In The Beginning (Vol. 1) #1, July 1997

Powers: Flex has the mutant power to morph portions of his body into organic metal. He demonstrated two different forms of this transformation, by either flattening out his body or actually altering the shape of his body. Initially, Flex performed the latter: Morphing his hands from about just above the wrist into paper-thin and razor sharp blades resembling cleavers. More than likely, he was compressing his mass in this process to make the blades incredibly durable. Similarly, Flex would also morph his shins, compressing the area between his knees and his ankles into a thin sheet of metal as well. Eventually, Flex's powers changed significantly He can flatten his body into the sheet metal state, but not compress his mass at the same time. Instead, his body expands into a larger length and width while loosing its depth. When morphed like this, Flex has large hands that could be swatted at an opponent, and could use his floppy metal body to cover and protect people and objects.

Radius’ mutant power is that his body constantly projects a thin but impenetrable layer of force around it. This field makes him virtually invulnerable, and allows air to pass through so that he can breathe, but prevents him from eating directly. Radius must strap a device resembling a surgical mask over his face in order to get food through his field and eat. He can mentally expand and alter the shape of his field to some degree. Radius can thus repel people and objects close to him, reshape his field into an incline so it acts as a solid ramp, and form a giant set of "clappers" around his hands and swing them together to hit an enemy in front of him.

SKIDS

SKIDS

Real Name: Sally Blevins
First Appearance: X-Factor (Vol. 1) #7, August 1986

Powers: Skids’ mutant ability is that her body generates a transparent force field around itself which protects her from various forms of attack and can be deactivated via mental concentration.

It deflects solid projectiles and disperses energy on contact: Directed kinetic force, thermal energy, electromagnetism, etc. The field also inhibits friction between surfaces, making it incredibly slippery. Skids can slide on the field under her feet to travel, and is quite difficult to keep a hold of. The lack of friction allows her to “skate” across most surfaces at high speeds (well over 100 miles per hour with sufficient momentum).

Initially, the field was constantly active and only operated as a form-fitting force of one or two-inch thickness around her. She eventually gained full control over her power and could expand the field large enough to protect about half-dozen other people as well. These larger dome-fields could be made selectively permeable at her will, so that Skids could allow her allies to enter the field on contact without weakening the protection from the rest of the field's area. Her force field can function in air, underwater, or in a vacuum.

An agile and capable unarmed combatant, Skids can also drive subway trains and is a trained operative of S.H.I.E.L.D.
