SHATTER

SHATTER

Real Name: Unrevealed
First Appearance: Morlocks (Vol. 1) #1, June 2002

Powers: Shatter's mutation has reconstituted his entire body out of a rock-like crystallized form, making him considerably more resistant to pain and injury. He has blackened skin, iridescent eyes, dampened nerve centers, a hyper-reconstructive power which allowed him to survive serious amounts of damage or loss of his body mass. It also allowed him to regrow missing limbs and regenerate it slowly over time. Shatter could also psionically "freeze" liquids, crystallizing them into a solid, but often brittle, state.

LITTERBUG

LITTERBUG

Real Name: Unrevealed
First Appearance: Morlocks (Vol. 1) #1, May 2002

Powers: Litterbug’s mutant power is an insect-like physiology which has dramatically redesigned his appearance. He is covered from head to toe in a chitinous shell, making him highly resistant to all forms of direct injury. He possesses superhuman strength, endurance, reflexes, and leaping ability, as well as enhanced night vision, hearing, and sense of smell. His fingers end in razor sharp claws which can be used offensively or to dig into and climb walls.

HEMINGWAY

HEMINGWAY

Real Name: Unknown
First Appearance: Generation X (Vol. 1) #5, July 1995

Powers: Hemingway’s mutant ability is a series of exoskeletal enhancements which give him a massive body with a bone-like exo-structure covering most of his skin.

Because of this, he possesses Superhuman Class 50 strength and superhuman resistance to all manner of physical harm. He also has bone tusks extending from his arms and on his backside as extremely sharp razor-pointed spikes or bone bludgeons. On one occasion, he apparently demonstrated the ability to increase in size and mass proportionately.

VESSEL

VESSEL

Real Name: Unrevealed
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #323, August 1995

Powers: Vessel possesses the mutant power to siphon physical and psychic residue from the recently deceased. When in close proximity to the deceased, he is able to absorb their decaying flesh into his own, expanding his overall mass and with it his physical strength, size, endurance, and reflexes as well.

He also drains off a portion of a corpse's psychic residue, a piece of their soul. Why he does this is unspecified, though quite possibly he needs his victims’ spiritual essence in order to make their physical remains work with his mass properly. He is physically vulnerable to discorporation, as a sufficient amount of energy can break his connection to the living residue he accumulates. Even so, he can be reduced to little more than a blob of animated tissue, and will eventually reconstitute himself back into human form.

SACK

SACK

Real Name: Unknown
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #323, August 1995

Powers: Sack is primarily composed of loose protoplasm wrapped around a pliant bone structure. He is impervious to many forms of harm, as he has no conventional sense of pain, bullets or other projectiles can pass into or through his body without damaging anything, and the holes regenerate in seconds.

His mutant power is the ability to assume control of another person by oozing over their body. Relaxing his humanoid shape, Sack becomes a living gel that seeps into his victim's pores and forms a loose film over their skin. This process dampens neurological and psychic activity as it begins, making it harder for the victim to think or fight back against him. Once he fully locks into his host body, Sack is able to completely direct their actions and movements. His host bodies tend to be dead after he discards them, suggesting his gel is either air-tight (preventing them from properly breathing while infused with him) or causes some form of neurological impairment that kills them as a by-product of the process.

DARK BEAST

DARK BEAST

Real Name: Henry Philip McCoy
First Appearance: X-Men: Alpha (Vol. 1) #1, February 1995

Powers: The Dark Beast is a mutant born with abnormally large hands and feet and exceptional physical prowess. He possessed superhuman strength (roughly Class 2), agility, reflexes, dexterity, and natural acrobatic skills. He was omni-dexterous, capable of writing legibly with either hand or either foot. Upon furthering his mutation, he came to possess a significantly altered physiology. His body was covered with thick, intense blue-black/spiky gray fur, he had fangs, claws on his fingers and toes, a sloping posture, and arms slightly longer than a normal man's. His strength and agility were increased, as were his senses to a small degree, and he developed a powerful healing factor that enabled him to survive an accurate hail of gunfire. The Dark Beast also began producing a mildly intoxicating pheromone at all times, not enough to actually manipulate women against their will, but sufficient to qualify as a mild aphrodisiac.

*The Dark Beast is the Earth-295 (Age of Apocalypse) counterpart of the Earth-616's Beast. Unlike the latter, the former insisted on self-experimentation to accelerate his own mutation, knowingly subjecting himself to his bestial transformation. As such, he possesses the same enhanced powers as the Beast before his secondary mutation.

MARROW

MARROW

Real Name: Sarah
First Appearance: Cable (Vol. 2) #15, September 1994 (as child); X-Men: Prime (Vol. 1) #1, July 1995 (as adult)

Powers: Marrow’s mutation grants her a highly unique physiology designed around the concept of her being able to remove her bones as weapons and consists of accelerated growth hormones that stimulate her metabolism to increase her strength, agility, reflexes, and recuperative capabilities. She also possesses resistance to impact, thanks to the extra-durable nature of her skeleton. Her regenerative powers are exceptional as well, enabling her to survive and recover from massive trauma to her system, such as the removal of her second heart. Apparently, her body was able to adjust and continue functioning with only one heart. Her accelerated growth factor also causes her bones grow to such a degree that they exceed the design of her skeleton, sprouting out from her body at odd angles. Many of these bones splinter as they manifest, making them useful as bladed weapons when she snaps them off. Her bone growth was originally random and uncontrolled, constantly shifting and regenerating with random disregard for her skin and internal organs. However, after her first heart was removed, Marrow began concentrating on controlling her mutant powers to some degree.

Marrow became capable of reshaping her bone structure, giving her control over the shape and sharpness of her removable bones. She maintained a set of bone shafts growing from her back at all times as easily accessible and removable bone daggers. She also was able to focus and morph the bones of her fingers, elongating them and forging the tips into razor sharp points. After being placed in a Shi'ar regenerative matrix on the Skrull homeworld, Marrow's body and powers altered considerably. She no longer had to deal with random and uncontrolled bone growths and the constant pain that accompanied them; rather her bones sprouted in a predictable stylized pattern, including a set of subdued horns on her brow, thin hair-like spines on her forearms and legs, and some plating on her torso. Through concentration, Marrow could make these protrusions recede, making herself look completely normal. She could also do the opposite, causing the bone plating on her body to increase in size, protecting various parts of her skin. She was seen with what appeared to be solid bone covering her entire hand like a glove, but it's possible her hand was still capable of motion, possibly by cracking and reforming the bone-glove instant-by-instant. These bone gloves could form razor sharp points on the ends of her fingers, and extend the tips so that she could reach greater distances or shape skeleton keys to flow into any lock. The spines on her forearms were readily-accessible projectiles, fired on a mental command and constantly regenerating her supply. She could still generate and remove bone daggers, but the process was painless and she could mentally control the shape of the blades as they extended from her body to be removed.

Eventually, Marrow joined S.H.I.E.L.D. and gained a power upgrade during that time. She was now somehow capable of morphing between two forms: A fully normal looking and acting girl named Sarah Rushman, and a crazed version of Marrow more closely resembling her original form. Offering herself to Weapon X, they successfully restored her beauty, making her appear completely normal on the outside. She maintained mental control over her bones, allowing her to create and remove a variety of bone weapons such as spears or blowguns, and she could form her bones to sprout claws just like Wolverine's. After leaving the Weapon X Program, though, her bones began to grow out again without repeat treatments from their doctors. Post M-Day, Marrow was a depowered mutant (with her physical mutations intact, however) and had adjusted to using regular knives stored in a special weapons compartment on her back.

Later, a bio-engineering "Volga Strain" treatment allowed her to access mutant "muscle memory" from her lost powers, providing her with some semblance of her original mutant powers.

MEME

MEME

Real Name: Unknown
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #292, September 1992

Powers: Meme's mutant power was to absorb the physical substance of other living organic beings into his body mass, suppressing their minds while using their mass to increase his size, strength, endurance, durability, and number of limbs with each victim. If his victims remained assimilated for too long, their mass was permanently made a part of him.

BRAIN CELL

BRAIN CELL

Real Name: Kevin
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #292, September 1992

Powers: Brain Cell's mutation granted him a misshapen physical appearance as well as the mutant power of telepathy.

He used his power to initiate a psi-link with anyone he came into physical contact with, becoming a mental hub that connected the minds of groups of people to transmit thoughts between individuals. He could read their thoughts and constantly broadcast his own into their minds.

FERAL & THORNN

FERAL & THORNN

Real Names: Maria Callasantos (Feral); Lucia Callasantos (Thornn)
First Appearances: The New Mutants (Vol. 1) #99, March 1991 (Feral); X-Force #6 (Vol. 1), January 1992 (Thornn)

Powers: Feral and Thornn were mutant siblings who had near-identical mutations: Feline appearances with enhanced physical attributes.

Their bodies were covered with fur (orange & white for Feral, brown for Thornn) and had pointed ears, razor sharp talons on each finger and toe, pointed canine teeth, and 5-foot long prehensile tails that aided them in balance. They both possessed enhanced strength, speed, cat-like agility, healing, and reflexes. They also possessed predatory instincts and superhumanly acute senses, especially of sight and smell. Their abilities made them excellent trackers and hunters.

BERZERKER

BERZERKER

Real Name: Raymond Carter
First Appearance: X-Factor (Vol. 1) #11, December 1986

Powers: Berzerker possesses the mutant ability to absorb and redirect energy from the electromagnetic spectrum. The plentitude of ambient electromagnetic waves makes it difficult to conclude whether Berzerker needs a constant source of energy to manipulate, or if he charges himself over time, storing energy to re-channel at his leisure.

He is able to project electromagnetic blasts that carry a concussive and explosive effect, and can disrupt electronic functions. While a mild electromagnetic burst can temporarily disrupt computers or magnetic locks, a major burst could render circuitry totally fried and useless. It was suggested that he could use his power as some form of thrust power and at least limited flight. Berzerker could also scan for different wavelengths of electromagnetic output, tracking power sources and picking up on TV and radio signals. It was suggested that Berzerker could translate these signals, visually projecting television images and broadcasting sounds from TV or radio for others to hear. He was never shown actually doing this, however.

APE

APE

Real Name: Unknown
First Appearance: Power Pack (Vol. 1) #12, July 1985

Powers: Ape’s mutant ability was a near-infinite control over the structuring of his molecules, enabling him to bend and stretch his body in various ways, open holes through his flesh, and assume complex shapes like a vacuum cleaner or a jar with a lid.

ERG

ERG

Real Name: Unrevealed
First Appearance: Power Pack (Vol. 1) #12, July 1985

Powers: Erg is a mutant with the power to absorb any ambient and focused energy directed at him and harmlessly metabolize it into his cellular structure. He can tap into existing sources of ambient energy in his environment, drawing a sufficient amount of power from this to maintain a "charge" at all times. He re-channels the energy through his left "electric eye", firing off lightning-like bolts of force. Erg is also capable of bodily absorbing active forms of energy, such as bio-blasts or electrical currents from mechanical systems, if he comes into direct contact with them.

TAR BABY

TAR BABY

Real Name: Unknown
First Appearance: Power Pack (Vol. 1) #12, July 1985

Powers: Tar Baby's mutant power was the ability to secrete a powerful adhesive through his pores that caused anything to stick to him on contact.

He could also neutralize the effect within minutes by oxidizing the tar, allowing the stuck objects to be removed from his person.

LEECH

LEECH

Real Name: Unknown
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #179, March 1984

Powers: Leech’s mutant power is the ability to generate an invisible field of psionic energy, with a maximum range of approximately 30 feet from him, that obstructs the neural pathways in the brains of superhumans. This obstruction affects the area of the brain governing superhuman abilities, negating their abilities so long as Leech is in their immediate proximity.

Through time and training with X-Factor, Leech learned how to control and retract his dampening field so that superhumans could use their abilities around him. For example, he could control his power to the point where Marvel Girl could carry him while flying telekinetically without losing her powers. He also learned how to expand his field in specific directions to target selected individuals in range without neutralizing everyone nearby. Because of circumstances, Leech's power dampening field was used most often against other mutants. Consciously activated mutant abilities would not activate in his presence, and autonomic mutations would cease functioning as well: Iceman could not generate or change into ice, the shape-changing Ape would spontaneously revert back to his normal form, Tar Baby's sticky skin stopped sticking, etc.

Leech
occasionally has shown he can use his powers to neutralize non-mutant abilities as well, such as Hazmat's toxicity. He even neutralized the powers of the shape-shifting Xartan carbon copy men, implying his power can read a general sense of what the baseline genealogy is for any species, then revert individuals back to that baseline, human or otherwise.

HEALER

HEALER

Real Name: Unknown
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #179, March 1984

Powers: The Healer's mutant power is the ability to heal mutants. His power operates by tapping into the biological energy produced by the mutant x-gene and redirecting it towards that person’s regenerative properties, enabling him to heal mutants who have been injured or disfigured. His power can heal any wound or disease short of death. Healing particularly severe damage to another mutant's body causes the Healer great physical strain.

PESTILENCE

PESTILENCE

Real Name: Unknown
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #169, May 1983 (As Plague); X-Factor (Vol. 1) #19, August 1987 (As Pestilence)

Powers: Formerly Plague of the Morlocks, Pestilence's mutant ability produces lethal diseases (any disease, actually) within her body and transmits the bio-agents through her hands to make others feel sick, delirious, and eventually die. Her power was extremely potent to the point where she could even affect people who were intangible, claiming that a single molecule was all it took for her powers to take hold. She could remove the illnesses she had generated with a single touch. She was immune to all known infections, viruses and other illnesses.

MASQUE

MASQUE

Real Name: Unrevealed
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #169, May 1983

Powers: Masque’s mutation allows him to psionically remold the flesh of organic material through physical contact. He can rearrange someone's appearance to make them beautiful, ugly, or look exactly like another person. Masque can create bizarre mutations like turning his victim's arms into tentacles, or employ his power offensively to seal up a person’s bodily orifices. His mutant power was originally ineffective against his own misshapen body, but the secondary mutation that apparently brought him back to life (he was killed by Shatterstar) also gave Masque the ability to reshape his own flesh as well.

ANNALEE

ANNALEE

Real Name: Annalee
First Appearance: Power Pack (Vol. 1) #12, July 1985

Powers: Annalee was a projecting empath. Her mutant power was to convert her own emotions into a radiant psychic effect that manipulated the feelings of other people around her. For example, when she was upset, everyone around her would feel her very same emotions. She could also make people feel the same as she does about a certain person, turning bystanders or neutral parties against her enemies.

TOMMY

TOMMY

Real Name: Unknown
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #210, October 1986

Powers: Tommy possessed the mutant ability to warp her body through sub-dimensional space, altering its physical characteristics relative to our universe. This gave her the ability to render her body literally two-dimensional, becoming flat as a sheet of paper. She couldn't stretch, extend, or distort her body otherwise. She could, however, slip through tight cracks and thin spaces.
