DARK RIDERS

DARK RIDERS

Roster: (clockwise) Tusk (3 Tuskettes in front), Psynapse, Foxbat, Gauntlet, Harddrive, and Barrage
First Appearance: X-Factor (Vol. 1) #65, April 1991

History & Powers: Originally known as the ‘Riders of the Storm’, the Dark Riders were a strike team assembled by Apocalypse. Initially, they were identified as Inhumans in their earliest appearances, but have been treated as mutants ever since. The newer members in the second incarnation of the Dark Riders led by Genesis (Tyler Dayspring) were all mutants.

Tusk has unspecified superhuman abilities. It has been implied that a little parasitic worm may possibly be animating the larger Tusk form normally seen. Regardless of the worm's existence, Tusk's normal body is enormous, standing over seven feet tall with massive musculature. He has superhuman strength, endurance, resistance to physical injury, two curved tusks extending up from his back, and an organic crust of armor extending between his shoulders and down his back somewhat. Tusk is capable of spawning underlings, or Tuskettes, from this crust on his backside. These underlings act as extensions of his being, similar to Multiple Man's duplicates. They are roughly three or four feet tall generally, but still possessed enhanced levels of strength, stamina, and durability, though not as great as the larger Tusk.

Psynapse was a telepath. He could read the thoughts and feelings of other people, and pull them into his own astral plane where they are subject to his complete control over their psychic surroundings. He could also assume remote control over the physical actions of others, or trigger their pain responses to send them into unbearable agony.

Foxbat possessed augmented strength, speed, agility, endurance, reflexes, leaping ability, and increased night vision. He had clawed hooves and fingers, fangs, and spear-like appendages which could be triggered to grow from the inside of his arm straight out the underside of his wrists, or from the outside of his arms pointing up past his shoulders.

Gauntlet never demonstrated any noticeable superhuman powers. He had green scaly skin and rows of needle-sharp teeth. If anything, he probably possessed superhuman eyesight and uncanny accuracy. Primarily, he employed a cache of plasma rifles, grenades, and other military-style weapons.

Harddrive has the ability to cybernetically bond himself with metal and technology, assimilating it into his neural net. This effectively allows him to transform himself into a cyborg at will, and possibly reverse the process just as easily. Merging with computer systems gives him immediate access to all the files stored in the software, downloading the information directly into his brain. He has used his powers to incorporate various forms of high technology into his person. Harddrive possesses enhanced physical strength and armored protection for his organic parts. He has highly advanced sensory abilities, including being able to detect electromagnetic wavelengths, mentally receive radio transmissions, and hack into security systems to see through closed-circuit video cameras monitoring a building. He can also projection his holographic consciousness over a distance, allowing him to observe and communicate with people hundreds of miles away. Harddrive is equipped with offensive weapons such as laser arrays, electro-jectors, and cryo-thermal relays. Finally, he is able to teleport himself and others from one location to another, across the planet's entire surface. He can trigger this teleportation signature to encompass anyone within his immediate vicinity, or in the vicinity of his holographically-projected consciousness (Also, Harddrive had the alias of "Mainframe" and both appear to be separate consciousnesses inside the body, apparently the organic mind and a computer-based A.I. respectively).

Barrage's forearms have been transformed into organic weapons, bio-mechanical energy conduits that can collect ambient energy from the environment and focus it into discharges of heat and explosive power. He produced photo-voltaic and concussive force, which is projected out through his cybernetics as devastating blasts. He could also strike opponents with the energy-charged arms for greater physical impact.

LUNA

LUNA

Real Name: Luna Maximoff
First Appearance: Fantastic Four (Vol. 1) #240, March 1982

Powers: Luna Maximoff is the daughter of Quicksilver and Crystal. A hybrid of both mutant and Inhuman genes, she tested negative for the x-gene at birth, and would not have developed powers naturally. She was exposed to the Terrigen Mists and received powers of empathic sight and projection as a result.

She perceives individuals as radiating different colors or intensities of light from within their bodies, and can interpret these lights as indicators of that person's emotional state. This allows her to not only read someone's general mood, but also small changes in their emotions caused by people or events surrounding them. For instance, Luna saw her father's general mood as one color, yet when he said her name his love for her radiated in a different set of colors for a moment. Luna can also somehow divine other forms of information by intuitively reading the emotional signature of people she looks at, such as picking up on Callisto's self-mutilation tendencies after M-Day just from a glance at her aura. In addition, she can read intentions to a degree, allowing her to sense what someone intends to do before they do it. This acts as an "early warning sense" whenever someone is attacking her, at least when she has her eyes on them. Luna's power is also expressive. She can impose specific emotions onto other people, such as causing them to become afraid of her. By seeing emotional activity in someone's aura, she can also isolate and "remove" that emotion, either by disabling a specific instance of emotion or removing someone's capacity to feel a given emotion entirely. How exactly this works and what the long term ramifications might be are unclear.

MAELSTROM

MAELSTROM

Real Name: Unknown
First Appearance: Marvel Two-In-One (Vol. 1) #71, January 1981

Powers: Maelstrom was born to a Deviant mother and an Inhuman father. Deviants (Homo sapiens descendus) are an evolutionary offshoot of humanity created through experiments performed by the alien Celestials. Deviants tend to look monstrous and have no set phenotype. Their unstable genetic coding for physical characteristics is common to all members. Inhumans (Homo sapiens inanthropo) are a genetically engineered offshoot of humanity created by the Kree to possess heightened strength, speed, agility, endurance, and reaction time, roughly 50% greater than humans. Maelstrom's hybrid genes grant him these characteristics, but twice as strong.

He was also exposed to the mutagenic properties of the Terrigen Mist, a mutagenic or mutation-causing substance discovered by the Inhuman scientist Randac. It is potent enough to cause any living organism to mutate from exposure to it, although the Inhumans zealously restrict its use to Inhumans only. Maelstrom's exposure to it granted him the power to siphon and control all forms of kinetic energy, the energy of motion.

He can mentally manipulate all forms of kinetic energy and transform it into physical strength. This process, the nature of which is unknown, involves a body-wide interaction with kinetic energy from any ambient source. While Maelstrom can derive power from the motion of a single, room-temperature neutron, it is not yet known what the largest source of kinetic energy is that he can tap, or how much energy he can synthesize for use at the same time. He frequently uses the power of his opponents to energize himself. Once energized, he can direct kinetic energy in great storms of force. His body constantly absorbs kinetic energy and translates it into a bio-luminescent plume of force which whirls around his body. Its rate of motion is often affected by his mood, while its depth (volume) is a function of the amount of energy he has synthesized for use. He controls the amount of energy he synthesizes over his body's minimum capacity by force of will.

His absorption is capable of slowing and inhibiting molecular motion in his environment. Maelstrom is even capable of leeching away the motion of the planet Earth itself, slowing the planet's revolution and rotation. This siphoning effect can be used to freeze projectiles or opponents in place to prevent them from reaching him, or he can kill someone by stopping their heart from moving and pumping. Maelstrom can convert his energies into strength and mass, increasing his physical power and stature at will. He can also stir up storms of concussive energy that radiate out from his person, or project directed blasts of energy from his hands. The intensity of his bio-kinetic releases is controlled mentally, and can be used to cause intense pain, stun opponents into unconsciousness, strike with tremendous force and even reduce a target to nothing but powder. He also briefly possessed abilities stolen from Anomaly and Oblivion, respectively the ability to alter reality and perceive all reality within the cosmos (cosmic awareness).

Maelstrom was an extraordinary genius with highly advanced knowledge of genetics, genetic engineering, and cloning.

GORGON

GORGON

Real Name: Gorgon Petragon
First Appearance: Fantastic Four (Vol. 1) #44, November 1965

Powers: Gorgon is an Inhuman (Homo sapiens inanthropo), a genetically engineered offshoot of humanity created by the Kree to possess heightened strength, speed, agility, endurance, and reaction time, roughly 50% greater than humans. At one year of age, he was exposed to the mutagenic properties of the Terrigen Mist, a mutagenic or mutation causing substance discovered by the Inhuman scientist Randac. It is potent enough to cause any living organism to mutate from exposure to it, although the Inhumans zealously restrict its use to Inhumans only. Gorgon developed a physical mutation in the form of hooves as a result.

Gorgon’s power is centered in his massively-muscled legs and hoof-like feet. Approximately three quarters of Gorgon’s weight is in the lower half of his body, particularly in the thick, dense muscles of his thighs and calves. As a result of having such a low center of gravity, it’s extremely difficult to knock Gorgon off balance and, were he to fall from any height, he would land on his feet. By natural strength and power alone, he can kick through three feet of solid oak with a single blow. However, his legs possess far more than great strength. His initial Terrigenesis, Gorgon’s legs can generate vibration on a molecular level in such a way that can develop an intense pulse of kinetic energy. By stomping his hoof to the ground, he can release this kinetic energy in the form of either a dynamic ground wave through the earth, or a more diffuse, radically propagating concussive wave along the surface of the earth.

The kinetic energy created by him is generated by an act of will; it doesn’t occur spontaneously each time he takes a step. Gorgon can control the relative intensity of the tremor at will. It takes him no more than a few hundredths of a second to generate sufficient energy to create any size effect up to his maximum capability. He can generate and expend his seismic force-waves for several hours of near-constant use before fatigue significantly affects his performance. Gorgon can release the kinetic energy through his hooves without stamping them, but the act of stamping serves as a focusing aid for its release. Once Gorgon generates the energy, he must release it within 4.5 seconds before it spontaneously discharges. He can’t dissipate the energy once it’s generated without releasing it.

Gorgon’s superhuman strength level was approximately Class, a level that was higher than the average Inhuman due to the particular way the Terrigen Mist affected his physical and genetic structure. He was also able to create seismic tremors of up to 7.5 on the Richter scale with a single stamp (even greater, from 8.2 to 9.5, if he happens to be near tectonic plate fault lines). However, these capabilities have most likely increased since undergoing a second Terrigenesis.

KARNAK

KARNAK

Real Name: Karnak Mander-Azur
First Appearance: Fantastic Four (Vol. 1) #45, December 1965

Powers: Karnak the Shatterer is an Inhuman (Homo sapiens inanthropo), a genetically engineered human offshoot created by the Kree to possess heightened strength, speed, agility, endurance, and reaction time, roughly 50% greater than humans.

Though he was not exposed to the Terrigen Mists, though meditation and intensive training he developed the extrasensory ability to hone in on stress fractures or pressure points found on people or objects. By detecting these flaws, Karnak is capable of striking blows that will topple and cripple superhuman opponents more than 100 times stronger than he, and shattering substances made of considerable durability, up to and including mild steel.

He has an unusually high cranium and worked hard to build up calluses on his hands so that he can strike without feeling pain. Karnak is also capable of mentally influencing his autonomic body processes. This includes his heart rate, breathing rate, sensitivity to pain, healing ability, etc. Through concentration, he is able to slow or speed up any of these factors.

TRITON

TRITON

Real Name: Unrevealed
First Appearance: Fantastic Four (Vol. 1) #45, December 1965

Powers: Triton is an Inhuman (Homo sapiens inanthropo), a genetically engineered offshoot of humanity created by the Kree to possess heightened strength, speed, agility, endurance, and reaction time, roughly 50% greater than humans. Triton developed a number of aquatic traits as a result, but could survive only in an aquatic environment.

Triton has scaly, greenish skin over his entire body, webbed feet, a small dorsal fin running from his forehead to the base of his skull extending from his temples. He also has two thin membrane stalks where his eyebrows should be. In addition to his physical mutation, he possesses a number of superhuman abilities derived from it. He has enhanced strength enabling him to lift approximately two tons on land. He possesses a superhumanly strong physiology enabling him to withstand the great water pressure changes that occur beneath the sea. His blood circulation enables him to withstand freezing water temperatures. His vision is more sensitive to the green portion of the visible spectrum, allowing him to see in relatively dark ocean depths. He can swim at a maximum superhuman water speed of between 50-60 knots (58-69 miles per hour) for several hours before tiring.

As a water breather, Triton has a number of gills hidden by scales along his throat. These gills enable him to extract sufficient oxygen from ambient water to allow him to function normally while underwater. Triton can live underwater indefinitely. He cannot survive out of water for more than five minutes without special devices before asphyxiating. His body is also very susceptible to dehydration.

Triton often employs a water circulation system to enable him to function outside water for extended periods of time. The system consists of lengths of plastic tubing running along his torso and limbs which constantly exude a mist of water. Two tiny tubes connect directly to the gills in his throat. In his wrist and ankle gauntlets is a 4-quart supply of water which is constantly re-oxygenated by means of a selective molecular filter (which allows oxygen molecules to enter the system and respiration waste molecules to exit). The amount of water in the system is continually replenished by a miniaturized moisture condenser located at the rear of Triton's belt. The water is circulated through the tubing by a body-heat powered electric micro-demand pump located next to the selective molecular filter.

LOCKJAW

LOCKJAW

Real Name: Lockjaw
First Appearance: Fantastic Four (Vol. 1) #45, December 1965

Powers: Lockjaw is a dog mutated into his present form after exposure to the Terrigen Mists, a mutagenic or mutation-causing substance discovered by the Inhuman scientist Randac. It is potent enough to cause mutagenic-wide changes in any living organism from exposure to it. For a time, it was thought that Lockjaw was actually a hideously deformed Inhuman, mutated into dog-like form by the Terrigen Mists. But it was later revealed that he is an animal, perhaps the first, exposed to the Terrigen Mists.

Lockjaw is essentially a very large, very intelligent canine. His jaws can produce more than a half-ton of pressure, he can consume metal and other materials too tough for a normal dog's stomach, and he is capable of understanding a great deal of spoken commands (or unspoken, as is the case with Black Bolt). Lockjaw can teleport across considerable distances. He can easily reach anywhere in the world or travel from Earth to the moon and back. Certain instances indicate he can teleport intergalactic distances, although he may require multiple jumps in order to cross that space. Lockjaw can somewhat selectively teleport other people and objects with him, providing they are close enough to be covered by his transit effect. Lockjaw's ability to teleport into enclosed and unfamiliar spaces indicates he has some capacity to 'port blindly without worrying about materializing inside solid objects. He moved through extra-dimensional space and he (if not his passengers) is consciously aware of that travel. Lockjaw occasionally crosses paths with other teleporters or extra-dimensional beings in his dimensional space.

Lockjaw possesses a supernatural sense of smell, even for a dog, and can perceive things beyond the human realm of detection. Lockjaw is sensitive to energy wavelengths and extra-dimensional vibrations through his antenna. He is able to detect the passage of beings through extra-dimensional space around him, even if he is in Euclidian space at the time. He can detect familiar people and objects across uncharted distances, "hear" calls from his masters to teleport into their presence, "smell" trails across the vacuum of space, and so on.

MAXIMUS

MAXIMUS

Real Name: Maximus Boltagon
First Appearance: Fantastic Four (Vol. 1) #47, February 1966

Powers: Maximus the Mad is an Inhuman (Homo sapiens inanthropo), a genetically engineered human offshoot created by the Kree to possess heightened strength, speed, agility, endurance, and reaction time, roughly 50% greater than humans. He was also exposed to the mutagenic properties of the Terrigen Mist, a mutation-causing substance discovered by the Inhuman scientist Randac. It is potent enough to cause any living organism to mutate from exposure to it, although the Inhumans zealously restrict its use to Inhumans only. In the case of Maximus, his exposure as an infant initially granted him no outward signs of a mutation. But as he matured in age, he developed and successfully hid his psionic powers.

He possesses the ability to override the thought processes of other brains around him, although the potency of this power varies greatly over time. At its peak, Maximus can overtake the minds of others. While he is capable of numbing the minds of as many people as there are within a 20-foot radius of him, he can only direct one sort of behavior at a time. He can impose a certain behavior on either a single individual or as many people as are in his radius. Maximus is especially adept at controlling the actions of the limitedly intelligent Alpha Primitives worker class. Maximus' power can even cause short-term amnesia if he overpowers a mind with sufficient force. He can blank people's minds or control their actions for as long as he so concentrates: They revert to normal as soon as he stops.

Maximus is an inventor of genius-level intellect. Despite his mild insanity, he retains an excellent theoretical and practical knowledge of mechanics, physics, and biology. He is particularly gifted at fashioning elaborate machines out of common, simple materials.

CRYSTAL

CRYSTAL

Real Name: Crystalia Amaquelin
First Appearance: Fantastic Four (Vol. 1) #45, December 1965

Powers: Crystalia Amaquelin is an Inhuman (Homo sapiens inanthropo), a genetically engineered human offshoot created by the Kree to possess heightened strength, speed, agility, endurance, and reaction time, roughly 50% greater than humans. She was also exposed to the mutagenic properties of the Terrigen Mist, a mutagenic or mutation causing substance discovered by the Inhuman scientist Randac. It is potent enough to cause any living organism to mutate from exposure to it, although the Inhumans zealously restrict its use to Inhumans only. Crystal's exposure to it granted her the ability to mentally manipulate the four basic elements of nature: fire, water, earth, and air.

She does so by means of a psionic interaction with the substances on a molecular level. By controlling oxygen molecules, she can cause fire to spontaneously ignite or she can douse any oxidizing flame by depriving it of oxygen. She can join hydrogen and oxygen molecules to create rain, summoning these molecules from a volume of atmosphere within a radius of approximately two miles. She can control the movement of water by manipulating surface tension, divining water from the ground and causing it to flow in designated directions. The observed maximum volume of water she can control is approximately 2,000 cubic feet (about 15,000 gallons). Thus, she cannot change the course of rivers or cause the sea to part. She can control the various substances that make up common bedrock (earth: iron, granite, shale, limestone, etc.), creating seismic tremors of up to 6.7 on the Richter scale (greater if tectonic plate fault lines are nearby) by causing a sudden shifting of the earth.

The observed maximum volume she can affect at once is 1.8 x 10" cubic feet (approximately 1/800 of a cubic mile). She can also control oxygen atoms and oxygen-containing molecules to create atmospheric disturbances of various kinds. By intermingling air with earth she can cause a dust storm, air with water a typhoon, and air with fire a firestorm. She is able to create a wind of tornado intensity, approximately 115 miles per hour. She also has some sensitivity to elemental activity in her environment, and can especially detect when something non-natural is influencing nature's course.

Originally, the limits of her powers enabled her to sustain a certain elemental phenomenon for approximately one hour before her mind began to tire. She could also create any number of effects in succession for about forty-five minutes before mental fatigue impaired her performance, but she has apparently since surpassed these limits.

MEDUSA

MEDUSA

Real Name: Medusalith Amaquelin-Boltagon
First Appearance: Fantastic Four (Vol. 1) #36, March 1965

Powers: Medusalith Amaquelin-Boltagon is an Inhuman (Homo sapiens inanthropo), a genetically engineered offshoot of humanity created by the Kree to possess heightened strength, speed, agility, endurance, and reaction time, roughly 50% greater than humans. Medusa's exposure to it as an infant granted her the power to accelerate and control at will the growth of the hair follicles on her skull.

Medusa possesses a long, thick head of hair, every strand of which has greater tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, and shear resistance than an iron wire of the same thickness (average hair diameter: .045 inches), as well as the psychokinetic ability to animate her hair for a number of feats. Her hair, approximately 6 feet in length while relaxed, can elongate to almost twice its normal length with only about a 25% loss of overall tensile strength. One strand of hair, 2-feet long, can support 6.4 pounds, a list-sized lock of hair can support about 750 pounds and her whole head of hair can lift about 3,200 pounds (1.6 tons). A portion of her hair must be used to anchor the rest at these greater weights, so that more than her scalp/skull is used as a brace.

Medusa can control the movement of her hair as if it were countless thin appendages growing from her head. A psionic field permeates her mutagenically altered hair-cells, causing mutual attraction across the gaps between strands. These relatively small forces operate in conjunction to develop larger forces. Through concentration, she can psionically move her hair in any manner imaginable. She can snap the length of it through the air like a whip (the tip of which moves faster than the speed of sound), or rotate it in a fan-like manner. She can bind persons or objects with it as if it were rope or use it to lift objects which weigh more than she could lift with her arms. Her scalp, skull, and neck do not support the weight of an object that she lifts: it is held aloft by the psionic force coursing through the hair. Medusa can also perform delicate manipulations with her hair such as lock picking or threading a needle, and such complex acts of coordination as typing or shuffling a deck of cards. Although she has no nerve endings in her hair, she can "feel" sensations on all parts of her hair by a form of mental feedback from her psionic field.

As yet Medusa has not manifested her psychokinetic powers in any way except the animation of her own hair. Whether she has the potential to control other fibrous substances other than her own hair (as can the mutant Gypsy Moth) has not yet been determined.

BLACK BOLT

BLACK BOLT

Real Name: Blackagar Boltagon
First Appearance: Fantastic Four (Vol. 1) #45, December 1965

Powers: Blackagar Boltagon is an Inhuman (Homo sapiens inanthropo), a genetically engineered human offshoot created by the Kree to possess heightened strength, speed, agility, endurance, and reaction time, roughly 50% greater than humans. In Black Bolt's case, his exposure as an infant granted him certain energy-manipulative abilities which he could not yet control, particularly that of producing quasi-sonic energy of great destructive potential. To protect the community, he was placed inside a sound-proof chamber for most of his life and was given an energy-harnessing suit.

Black Bolt possesses various superhuman powers stemming from his ability to harness free-floating electrons. The speech center of Black Bolt’s brain contains an organic mechanism able to generate an as yet unknown type of particle which interacts with ambient electrons to create certain phenomena determined by mental control. The most devastating of the effects is Black Bolt’s quasi-sonic scream. Because his electron-harnessing ability is linked to the speech center of his brain, any attempt to use his vocal cords – from the merest whisper to a full scream – triggers an uncontrollable disturbance of the particle / electron interaction field. This result in a shock wave equivalent, at maximum force, to that caused by the detonation of a nuclear weapon. A whisper has generated sufficient force to rock a battleship, while a scream can reduce a mountain to rubble.

The fork-shaped antenna that Black Bolt has worn upon his brow since childhood enables him to channel his powers in more directed, less destructive ways. The antenna monitors his brain’s speech center activity and allows him to direct limited quantities of the unknown particle to create a number of controlled phenomena. He can channel this energy inwardly to enhance his own body’s speed and strength. Black Bolt is capable of channeling all available energy into one arm for one powerful punch called his Master Blow. This exertion taxes ability to employ the particle/electron energy to its limit and him extremely vulnerable following its use.

Black Bolt is also able to direct the unknown particle outwards in ways other than by means of his of his vocal cords. He can rapidly route particle/electron energy through his arms to create relatively small concussive blasts. He can form a field of highly-active electrons around himself with the wave of a hand, said field being capable of deflecting projectiles up to the mass of an MX missile traveling at its maximum speed. He can create particle/electron interaction fields solid enough to be traveled upon, though this phenomenon is a particularly difficult and exhausting one. He can use these electron fields as extrasensory probes which are highly sensitive to other electromagnetic energy phenomena. He can even manipulate his electron field to jam certain electrical mechanisms.

Black Bolt can also harness the unknown particles his brain generate to interact with electrons to create anti-gravitons that enable him to defy gravity. By emitting a jet of rapidly moving particle/electron interaction by-product while enveloped by anti-gravitons, Black Bolt can fly up to 500 miles per hour for a period of 6 hours before his brain begins to tire appreciably from the effort. The anti-graviton field also serves to protect Black Bolt from the detrimental effects of rapid movement through the atmosphere.

QUICKSILVER

QUICKSILVER

Real Name: Pietro Django Maximoff
First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #4, March 1964

Powers: Quicksilver is a mutant who possesses superhuman speed, created and maintained by a number of complimentary mutations. His powers were enhanced dramatically by exposure to Isotope E, a radioactive evolutionary aid created by the High Evolutionary. He has superhuman strength and durability across his entire frame, especially concentrated in his lower body. Pre-Isotope E estimates gave him the ability to lift 1,000 lbs with his upper body, and marked his legs as having Class 1 strength. Pietro's durability allows him to resist the adverse effects of air friction, of striking the ground with intense force while running, and he has a unique lubrication in his eyes that prevent them from drying out at high speed. His joints are also specially lubricated to make them move faster and with more fluidity than normal. Pietro's body does not produce fatigue poisons as we do, making his metabolism almost four times as efficient as a normal person's and giving him phenomenal endurance. Originally clocked at 175 mph, Quicksilver became capable of exceeding Mach 4.2 to an unknown degree after his exposure to Isotope E. His perceptual abilities and reaction time have been enhanced as well, enabling him to properly recognize sights and sounds in his environment even while moving at his top speeds. He is capable of a number of feats such as dodging bullets, speed-reading, running across the surface of water or up vertical inclines, and just generally performing different actions far faster than the human eye can follow.

After losing his mutation on M-Day, Pietro regained superhuman powers by exposing himself to the Terrigen Mists of the Inhumans. He now possessed the ability to travel forward through time at will, by vibrating his atomic structure so that it shifts in relation to time's flow. This ability only transports him through time, not space, as every time-jump causes him to rematerialize in the future on the exact spot he was standing in the present. He can jump anywhere from a few seconds into the future, to weeks and possibly months further along the timeline. There seems to be a set limit to the amount of time he can hold the temporal vibrations that engage his time-jumps, and he will return to the present whenever he exceeds this limit or consciously chooses to return. Pietro's return jumps carry him back to the exact instant he time-jumped into the future, keeping him linearly present through the timestream. He does not necessarily return to the exact spot he time-jumped from, however. If Quicksilver moved to a different spatial position before returning to the present, he will rematerialize in that new spot. As a result, if he time-jumps forward and then returns to standing on the exact spot he materialized from before returning, someone observing him in the present would see nothing more than a slight blurring vibration come over him for an instant to indicate he time-jumped; if he moves physically while in the future, his return to the present can make it look as if he instantly relocated across the room or vanished entirely, depending on how far away he traveled spatially while time-jumping. He is capable of bringing small inanimate objects forwards and backwards in time with him. Because he always returns to the exact instant he leaves, every time Quicksilver time-jumps there are two of him running around in that time-frame. If he chooses to, Pietro can multiply this effect by doubling-back on his own timeline, effectively duplicating himself many times over. To accomplish this, he jumps a few seconds into the future, creating a version of himself which will eventually jump back in time to the instant he left. Once his present self reaches the point in time where his traveling self materializes, he jumps ahead a few seconds again, and the cycle continues. This technically means that every Quicksilver but one will have already lived through the period of multiplicity at least once.

This new power was seemingly taking its toll on Pietro's health and body, but the full extent of this is unclear. The mists were supposed to only restore his powers temporarily, and he needed additional exposure to the mist in order to maintain them. However, after immersing himself in the mists for an extended period of time, Pietro has absorbed the Terrigen compound into himself, making his abilities effectively permanent. Furthermore, Quicksilver merged with the Terrigen crystals physically, shattering them directly into his flesh. He gained the power to release the mist upon command to restore powers to mutants on M-Day. This effect could also be used on existing mutants, overloading their powers with a form of bio-feedback that temporarily incapacitates them. Since having pulverized the crystals out of his body, Pietro can no longer reactivate mutant powers, and his time-jump power vanished. He has since regained his superhuman speed.
