First Appearance: The Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) #39, December 1967
Powers: Jack Winters was a nuclear power plant worker who gained superhuman powers after exposure to radiation from an explosion of radioactive chemicals. Allegedly a mutant, it is feasible that his powers were merely dormant and just surfaced during the stress of his radiation exposure. In either case, his body underwent genetic-level changes that granted him telepathy, teleportation, and mutated hands.
As the Jack O'Diamonds, his telepathy allowed him to communicate with others and resist psychic attacks. He could sense the presence of others and broadcast mental suggestions to others to bend them to his will. As a teleporter, he could transport himself, his clothing and a certain amount of additional mass from one location to another. His power was effective for very short distances and operated through molecular dispersal and recombination, converting matter into particles and then providing them a direction to travel in and location to recombine into a corporeal form. His hands were mutated as well, giving them flexible diamond-like composition that was virtually indestructible. This same substances made him superhumanly strong, but with lessened mobility.
Further exposure to radiation transformed him into the Living Diamond. His entire body was now composed of the same diamond-like substance of his hands, which increased his strength levels and gave him greater resistance to injury. His diamond form was virtually immune to psychic attack.
