SWAY

SWAY

Real Name: Suzanne Chan
First Appearance: X-Men: Deadly Genesis (Vol. 1) #3, March 2006

Powers: Sway has the mutant ability to alter how time is represented to her mind and body, apparently through a form of interpretation and manipulation of temporal energy. She is able to exert influence over nearby objects, causing them to slow down as they move or stop entirely, frozen in mid-air and mid-motion. This allows her to immobilize her opponents, dodge bullets, stop vehicles in their tracks, etc. Sway can affect specific objects by focusing on them, or simply expand her temporal inhibitor field outwards to affect everything in a radius from her position.

Sway is also capable of retro-cognitive projection, she can tap into residual temporal imprints in her immediate vicinity, forming holographic images that replay past events in front of her with complete audio and visuals. She is able to recreate events that occurred a few hours in the past, though Vulcan used her power to replay events many years earlier. She can apparently control the speed at which the events she sees are replaying themselves. Though Sway cannot re-see events that took place anywhere but in her current line-of-sight, she can follow phantom objects through time by physically moving herself to "keep pace" with things that had moved through her area previously. Presumably, Sway can perform other tracing or re-visualization acts using her powers.

PETRA

PETRA

Real Name: Petra (last name unrevealed)
First Appearance: X-Men: Deadly Genesis (Vol. 1) #1, January 2006

Powers: Petra is a geomorph with the mutant ability to manipulate all forms of earth and rock. She can levitate chunks of earth matter of various sizes, from the tiniest pebbles to boulders many times larger than a man. She is able to propel these rocks as projectiles, hurling them with enough force so that even smaller-sized ones can cause substantial damage. She can create simulated avalanches or hailstorms with her power. Petra can also cause masses of earth to rise out of the ground, blocking paths, elevating her to great heights on a column of rock, or directing these masses horizontally as battering rams or tidal waves of rock and soil.

On command, she is capable of making the ground become porous like quicksand beneath her opponent's feet, opening up chasms or fissures in the ground, and causing tremors to ripple through the earth. She can shape earth and rock with her mind, making it grow around her for protection or conceivably forming detailed shapes and sculptures that can be stationary or animated to carry out her will. Petra has also demonstrated the power to generate enormous pressure in rock by concentrating on it, allowing her to artificially recreate the natural conditions which form diamonds. It is unclear if she can shape and levitate diamonds just as easily as other geological materials.

CHILDREN OF THE VAULT

CHILDREN OF THE VAULT

Roster: Sangre, Serafina, Fuego, Aguja, Perro, and Luz
First Appearance: X-Men (Vol. 2) #188-189, September-October 2006

History/Powers: The Children of the Vault are an offshoot of humanity more than 6,000 years more advanced in terms of evolution and technology. They were created by scientists in the early 1970s using volunteers in a time-shift experiment off the coast of Chile in a massive tank ship known as the Conquistador, causing time to flow forward at more than a thousand times faster inside the ship than outside. The Conquistador was meant to be a time capsule, set to open only when a global catastrophe eradicated humanity. However, the energies released during M-Day awakened the Children early. A description of the first roster is as follows:

Sangre has integrated technology enabling him to instantly transmute himself into water, causing all manner of physical impact or assault to pass harmlessly through him. This also enables him to collapse into a liquid state and flow through cracks or tight spaces unhindered. He is also capable of cooling water vapor from a gaseous to a liquid state, summoning water literally out of thin air. He can cast globules of water around a victim's head, forcing them to drown.

Serafina is the most clearly mechanically-enhanced of the Children of the Vault. She can extend an array of wires from bio-plugs on her arms, chest, and spine in order to interface with machinery. Once plugged in, she is able to copy any and all information from computer hard drives into her own mind, and can also edit and delete this information as she chooses. Even without directly connecting to machinery, Serafina can hack into transmission feeds from a distance to "see" through security cameras, and emit a "blackout" field that prevents electromagnetic transmissions from traveling in her range, selectively or generally. Her human senses are masterfully enhanced as well. She can differentiate between psionic illusions and reality on sight. Serafina is also able to detect genetic and bio-chemical data down to the molecular level. This makes her an extra-ordinary tracker, capable not only of tracing a target's path but also identifying any person or object they might have touched and recognizing subtle shifts in their body chemistry or metabolism, such as changes in adrenaline levels or pulse rate. She can also manipulate bio-molecular ingredients to some degree. On her own, she can plant subliminal thoughts in people's minds in close proximity, placing an idea in their head. When mechanically enhanced, however, Serafina's capacity for influence and illusion increases dramatically. When a human being is hooked up to any kind of technology for her to interface with, she can project her consciousness through the machine and into the person's neuro-chemical pathways, effectively simulating a psychic link. She can then interact with someone's astral form with her own psychic self, modifying her "appearance" and their environment as she chooses. Plugging directing into someone's thoughts gives her considerable persuasive abilities, allowing her to plant powerful and controlling directives into their minds. By plugging into Lady Mastermind, she was also able to access and manipulate Regan's telepathic illusion power as she saw fit, while the woman herself remained in a coma.

Fuego is a walking furnace of thermal energy. His body constantly expels heat at temperatures in excess of 1,500° Fahrenheit, giving him the appearance of a charred and smoldering corpse. This heat can be projected outwards as beams from his hands or waves emanating from his entire body. Besides its intense temperature, Fuego's power discharge is also self-augmenting: He draws energy out of his environment to sustain and magnify his flames, neutralizing resistance and retaliation to his attacks. He can also scan his environment for heat signatures, registering various kinds and sizes of thermal output, including being able to track a man by his body heat.

Aguja projects scatter-bursts of energy, disrupting matter at a molecule level on contact so that it explosively atomizes at the point of impact. She can also cast spheres of light around herself and others, which can levitate them through the air or act as a force field to protect them from harm.

Perro is able to manipulate gravitational force. He can bend gravity as it affects certain objects, causing them to "fall" upwards, sideways, or diagonally in any direction. He can also increase the pull of gravity, enough so that his re-directional effect was strong enough to instantly overcome Cannonball's downward momentum. He also seems to possess superhuman strength, though that may simply be applied G-forces channeled through his fists to maximize the power of his blows.

Luz was a light-manipulator. Her ability to manipulate existing light allowed her to shape and sculpt ambient light waves to create convincing imagery, and she had an artist's eye for recreating any sight after seeing it once. She could warp light to make herself or others invisible, or create illusory skins to disguise her appearance and the appearance of another person. These illusions were stable and would continue even after she left the general vicinity. She could manipulate other sources of light beyond ambient light waves, such as bending energy-based security beams or force fields out of her way. Luz could also transform into light, beaming herself from point to point at light speed.

OMEGA

OMEGA

Real Name: Michael Pointer
First Appearance: New Avengers (Vol. 1) #16, April 2006

Powers: Michael Pointer is a mutant capable of harnessing the bio-energy signatures from the mutagenic auras of other mutants. This process can be carried out remotely, from a distance, and taps directly into the bio-genetic power produced by the x-gene, so even mutants with non-energy based mutations are potential sources of power for him. Michael typically utilizes these energies through bio-electric assimilation, rechanneling the power he absorbs as thrust for flight, a protective aura, and energy bolts fired from his hands. He does have the capacity to utilize the unique mutant energy signatures themselves, however, and can therefore manifest the specific powers of any mutant he is siphoning from.

Whatever his original capabilities would have been, Michael's powers have been dramatically and permanently augmented following his encounter with the Collective, the quasi-sentient energy mass formed from the energy signatures of every mutant who lost their powers on M-Day. Although the majority of the Collective has been cast into the sun, Michael still retains residual energy fields from his contact with the entity, giving him the potential to access all the powers of the decimated mutants. Among the powers Michael Pointer has manifested from the Collective and other sources are superhuman speed, telescopic vision, molecular transfiguration, size-changing, intense cold, force fields, magnetism, superhuman strength, the ability to survive in the vacuum of space, reanimating the dead, telepathy, technopathy, applied healing powers, and dinosaur-like strength, fangs and claws.

After joining Omega Flight, he adopted use of a modified Guardian micro-circuitry costume as a "power regulator", to control the amount of energy he absorbed or released at a given time. The Canadian Intelligence Services manipulated Pointer through the suit, however, using it to turn him into an addict, an "energy junkie" requiring the occasional "fix" of mutant energy to stabilize his powers and metabolic health. At this point, cutting Michael off completely from outside energy sources will apparently kill him in a matter of hours. It seems that the residual Collective energy needed to be "fed" energy like a living organism in order for Michael to maintain some level of constant super-powers.

The Canadian operatives made arrangements to remotely feed energy into the Guardian suit (and therefore Michael) from "donors" -- super-powered criminals receiving leniency for their crimes in exchange for serving on staff as a renewable power source for Omega. Although mostly non-mutant superhumans in origin, these "donors" were being fed a variant of Mutant Growth Hormone, which mixed with their non-mutant powers to create a palatable bio-energy signature similar enough to a mutant's so that Michael could feed off of it. The siphoning process seriously weakens the donors, and more than one has died from having too much of their energies fed into Omega at once.

RAIN BOY

RAIN BOY

Real Name: Carl Aalston
First Appearance: X-Men (Vol. 2) #171, August 2005

Powers: Rain Boy's mutant power caused him to exist as a sentient mass of water. He existed inside a skin suit (presumably with a force field), maintaining a body with human proportions for him to interact with his surroundings. He presumably perceived his environment psionically. Rain Boy could expel pressurized streams of water out from his body. How he regenerated this lost mass is unknown, but he may have been capable of absorbing water from other sources through his suit.

FLUBBER

FLUBBER

Real Name: Nicholas Shelley
First Appearance: X-Men (Vol. 2) #171, August 2005

Powers: Flubber's mutant power manifestation left his body with a bizarre physiology. He possessed an oversized, muscular blue form with red tattoo-like markings along with heightened agility, strength, and abnormally large hands resembling whale fins.

His body was composed of a rubbery substance able to absorb impact harmlessly and redistribute it back in the direction of the initial impact, rebounding from it to spring great heights and distances. The unique physiology behind his neck and wrists removed vulnerable points that might snap or break when exposed to great force.

ONYXX

ONYXX

Real Name: Sidney Green
First Appearance: X-Men (Vol. 2) #171, August 2005

Powers: Onyxx's mutant abilities manifested during his teenage years, resulting in a permanent uneven granite physiology. He had extra dense bones, muscle, lungs, organs, etc. that function the same as normal humans. However, he still needed food, water, oxygen, and sleep (albeit to a different degree), had natural healing and recuperative abilities, and so on.

He possessed superhuman strength (Class 5), endurance, and his hide was comprised of uneven granite that granted his body resistance to most forms of physical impact, except for his head area which he covered with a metal helmet whose specifications remain unknown. He also possessed four eyes which permanently glowed with a red hue and an inhuman skeleton.
